no heating issues: tops out in the mid 60s which after the problems of my old xps (90+) just doesn't qualify as an issue.
Froogle has just posted some really good numbers benchmarking the video performance -- over 11000 is standard and good fps.
Serious gamers will want the 920 just because, but most of the rest of us will kick butt just with the 720 i7 core as it is! -
The overall heat the 920 puts out is still not that bad either.
-
glad to see you made the decision: what specs did you end up with? and did you go for the full HD screen? -
GF ordered it but I had to take over the order process. Specs are:
cosmic black
i820qm
4gb ddr3 1333mhz
500 gb 7200 rpm (she originally had a 256gb ssd but I changed that just now to lower the price)
gtx 260m
1600x900 lcd
2 yrs warranty
+ free tact headset + mouse
EDD: 12/07/09
Total: $2285...considering the headset/mouse are worth $186, it came out cheaper than my sager.
Total time on the phone with Dell today: 2 hours and 15 minutes.
I've PM'd quadzilla and others about it and figured the 1600x900 is the best option. -
I've been trying to get the mouse and headset added without cancelling.. so far no dice.
-
Edit: Finally cleared the payment. Got them to give me free next day service..not that it usually makes any difference with Dell. -
heres my unboxing video on youtube let me know what you think. thanks

Are we supposed to get the Keyboard and Mouse even if we use the EPP 10%???
I never got an option...mine is still in "Production" but I have a feeling its on backorder because they are running short on those 720 i7's. -
The promo started yesterday. If you ordered before yesterday then the option was not there.
-
Looks like a good video, thanks!
Looks lik -
no prob kev
-
sorry if its kinda dark. i probably should've opened the blinds,.. but then again i didnt really want a big glare.
-
Some excitement and/or commentary would've made the unboxing video a bit more interesting. But at least you showed everything so it did what it was supposed to. Thanks for the vid.

Just want to pass on a quirk I've found. In the Windows 7 Start menu you can edit the Shut Down button so its default action is Restart, Sleep etc. I set this to Restart because I figured I'd use the Alien-head power button when I want to shut down. Didn't quite work like that tho, it seems that the M15x power button is linked to the windows shutdown option. When I hit the little alien head it kept restarting instead of turning off. I know there is a setting under power options to define what the power button does but this was still set to Shut Down. I set the windows default back to Shutdown and normal operation resumed. So basically, if you want your physical power button to shut it down you cannot play with the shut down button in the start menu.

I can't believe my machine is still in the build stage. I'm now half expecting to get an order delayed e-mail from dell.

That sucks. Hang in there guys.
I'm going to play some memorial Dragon Age on mine now in your honor.

Hey guys, I was thinking to buy one of these beauties one of these days and I was wondering if I should get the Intel i7 720QM or the 820QM, is it that big of a performance shift, or i can just stick to the cheap processor and be happy with it? I am buying this laptop for videogaming though, so let's hear your thoughts on this!
Thank you C= -
Lapo,
The performance difference between the 2 chips is't really significant, although you should get the 260m GTX because it's better then the 240m by a significant margin. -
Ok pal, thanks for the information, I just was wondering though, perhaps on the long run I can change the processor and swap it with the 920 in a far future.
VERY FAR C=
So perhaps this machine will be cheap and good at the same time C= -
my alien has landed for me today already on the phone with tech support webcam is not functioning and no bluetooth also. Other than that this thing is a beast
-
Why is AW shipping machines without BT? Is there a BT shortage? It would make sense if they ship it now and give the BT later I suppose.
-
Well I just pulled the trigger! I hope I made the right decision on the screen resolution 1600 x 900. I am a programming student so I will be doing lots of coding/gaming. My G51J that was just shipped back to Newegg.ca had the 1920 x 1080 resolution screen and I had to increase the the text by 125% in Windows to make it a reasonable size. So I would assume if I leave the size set to 100% in Windows with the 1600x900 I should be all good. How are the viewing angles, black levels and colors on the 1600 x 900?
BTW I was able to haggle with the rep at Del and paid $2079 CAD for my system. There was a holiday deal on for $2200 but he knocked another $120 off after telling him I was ready to pay with my credit card for that price. -
Congrats josh. I think the M15x's LG will blow away the AUO junk that we had to deal with in the G51. When's your EDD? Mine says 12/3 but I'm hoping that's an overestimation and it ships much sooner. I'm still not too fond of the giant grills but we'll see how it looks in person. -
Thanks Joker. I think he said my EDD was Nov 30.

-
And believe me this cooling makes a huge difference. The Asus are hot running notebooks with subpar displays. -
-
Congrats Josh.
The screen is perfect for coding. I code and write on it and can't imagine having the higher res screen - the fonts would just be painful without some tweaking in most IDE's.
The blacks are extremely black, and the viewing angle is good almost all the way round to 90 degrees at the side. I like it, but I can see how the privacy concerned would not like it.
Hope you enjoy your new machine.
-
Well I got cold feet on the display and upgraded to the higher resolution. Hope I made the right decision.

I have a question. When I hit my Stealth Mode button, which way is off and which is on?
Is it off when the little tachometer is gone or when it is lit up? -
-
when stealth mode is on the tachometer dims a lil bit
-
-
Also what version of RivaTuner works with the M15X?
-
the tach never really goes away just dims when stealth mode is on
-
Hope this helps... -
Not on mine. Dim light means no stealth.
-
The built in webcam on M15x is so niceit's even better than the $60 webcam I bought a year ago... XD
-
-
okey guys i am all set to order now... so one last thing to ask you guys. what is the differance between i7 820qm and 920xm i know the clock speed differance and how it turbos and stuff what iam asking really is, what does the EXTREME do that the normal i7 doesnt in M15x??
-
Empties your wallet more. -
there is a huge difference between home and office store and Small & Medium Business store in UK. what happens if i try buying through the latter?
-
They will send the MI6 after you for lying, mate. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
They send one man to do the job.

Hm...I just noticed that Dell is offering the Tactx Headset and Tactx Mouse for free.
