Sorry to hear, it sucks when there's a delay like that. I know a lot of people hate on the Indian reps but I've had nothing but good luck with them going all the way back to my Dell XPS2 and M1710. The last Dell I had (XPS 16) suffered from dust behind the edge-to-edge glass and anytime I contacted an Indian rep, they'd setup a system exchange immediately. With the M15x, the Indian lady stayed on the phone for about 30 minutes while she waited on the sales rep to reconfigure the machine and add in the headset + mouse and then she had it prioritized w/the factory and sent me a follow up e-mail. *knock on wood so I don't jinx myself* ha.

Dell customer service is not what it used to be. I removed my bottom cover to replace the RAM and HDD and noticed that a few tabs on the cover were broken, so I called Dell to send me a replacement. The order sat "open" for 2 weeks, so I called them again, and after 1.5 hours on the phone (3/4 of my daily commute one-way), they shipped it..... to the wrong address. So I called them again tonite and they are sending me another. It has been almost a month....... Good thing this laptop rocks.....

I remember back in 1996 dealing with Dell as a corporate customer. They had THE BEST customer service on the planet! I guess Mike Dell is just watching his bottom line.

 

they probably still do have great business customer service.

all the major laptop guys seem to universally suck with average consumers though.

 

OK guys. Here's a weird one to try out. Just came to bed and brought the laptop with me, thinking I'd finish up some code before snoozing. So, I'm laying in bed, with my legs bent and the M15x on my thighs - I'm describing all this for a reason. The laptop is at about 45 degrees then so I can type well, laying down.

I tried right clicking some icons to bring up the context menu and strangely the menus kept vanishing. I tried typing and all sorts of weirdness happened - backspace deleted a bunch at once, keys were missed and so on.

It seems to be related to the angle of the computer. I put the computer flat and right clicked to open up a menu then slowly tilted the keyboard towards me until it was 45 degrees again. The menu went away.

Can anyone else try this for me to let me know if this is just my machine. Right click on something then tilt the computer up and towards you and tell me if the menu goes away.

 

that is a weird one. doesn't do that on my system. have you tinkered with the touchpad settings? just a wild guess, maybe the touchpad settings are too sensitive and it interpreting your movements incorrectly?

Nope. Haven't touched the touchpad settings and just fired them up and set everything to least sensitive - same issue.

 

Ordered the M15X last night. Have wanted an AW since college, but never could afford one. I pretty much with standard setup, but upgraded the memory 4GB 1333MHz, upped the Video card and the display. I put everything in the cart then called AW(dell) to add a docking station and AW bag. In the setup I got AW mouse and headset for fee….so I told the sales associate I didn't really want the headset but would rather have the AW keyboard.
So after an hour on the phone…I got the M15x, AW bag, docking station, AW mouse and keyboard, and they let me keep the headset. 10% of M15x…and got the mouse, keyboard, and headset for free!!! Think I should have tried for the bag…lol
Does it usually take the exact time it says to ship it out…or do they give that date as the latest possible date I would receive everything?

 

i wan to do factory default recovery, how to do?

 

I finally was able to play with my M15x last night and it rocks!!! It did not come with Bluetooth thought and I'm debating whether to get it delivered or not. I'm uncomfortable with anyone opening up a brand new laptop.

 

Still with the bluetooth problem..
Can you get a discount or some other deal if you say you want it refunded? lol

I've just done a reformat and fresh re-install of Windows 7 on my M15x.

I haven't installed all the drivers from the Dellalienware website yet and two things are showing as unrecognised in the Device Manager, these are:

PCI bus 9, device 7, function 2
PCI bus 9, device 7, function 3

Can anyone identify what these are?

I'm hoping they're processor related because my Windows Index is coming up ridiculously low for the processor at the moment.. :/

 

i mistake and did a fresh install of window7, now i would do Alien RespawnV2.0, but cannot, anybody help me? Mine is M15X with Corei7

 

I've just installed the rest of the drivers and the Device Manager is fine now, everything is showing up as installed and working correctly... BUT, my processor is still at 4.7 on the Windows Performance Index - I mean, what the hell?! It's a core i7 and should EASILY be 7+ on this rating system. Even web pages are being sluggish with the processor's current performance, scrolling down is laggy and unresponsive. This sucks.

 

mine is in "work in progress" stage... how long did it remain in that for all you guys??

 

my machine acts the same way when angled -- will rapidly scroll through pages or menus, no boxes click open etc. -- return to flat, works fine.

I will try playing with the touchpad settings and see what happens: good suggestion.

 

First, back up all your data because you will lose it all during recovery (hard drive will be reformatted).

Restart your computer, and wait until it says "Press F10 to start Alienware Respawn" . . . hit F10 and then follow the steps. The notebook will appear to boot into Windows until a wizard comes up.

I restored my M15x to factory state last night, took somewhere between one and two hours.

 

Sweet -glad it's not just me then. I wonder if it's even worth calling out an engineer - not that big a deal I guess.

 

i try d, but it didnt appear the Alienware Respawn, because i did a clean install after i get my laptop, because i wanna do 2 partition, but i didnt delete the OEM and the recover partition....

 

might be: let's try the self-diagnosis and fix route first and than see. Trial and error with the Command Centre settings will let us know soon enough.

 

Mine was never in that stage. Went directly from production to boxing. Today is day 2 in boxing.

Looks like you're in the pre-production stage. I'm trying to order a second M15x and the rep is giving me a hard time with getting the free headset + mouse. She's gone back and forth to her manager twice now. Told her if she can't do it I'll just hang up and talk to my other rep that did it. Now she went back a third time lol! I'm trying to get her to give me the EPP + 3% DPA and the headset/mouse. It's not entirely unreasonable because the system I have in my sig was the 10% EPP + mouse/headset.

Edit: Holy crap it was like pulling teeth with these people!! I had to prove to her that my EPP portal shows the headset/mouse advertisement by giving her the URL manually. At that point they knew they had to honor their advertisement for legal reasons so they folded and gave me the 13% off + mouse/headset. So for those of you that are doing EPP and being denied, be persistent and firm with them. It took me TWO HOURS to finally get them to honor it.

Final edit: WOW, she put me on hold claiming she's going to email the quote and 1 min later the connection is lost. No quote, nada. Wonderful, 2.5 hrs wasted. BTW this was a Filipina sales agent, so much for blaming the Indians for being incompetent and inflexible.

 

Actually I think it's a hidden option. On the screen that says press F12 for Bios you can also press F10 for the Respawn Menu.

 

Has anyone got a display to hdmi adapter to work. I just got one that supports audio and the video works but its really screwy. Also the only audio outputted is through the laptop... any suggestions?

 

Right click on your sound icon by the time and select Playback Devices, you need to select the Display Port and set it as the default device. To get sound back through the laptop you set Speakers/Headphones as default.

By screwy do you mean it's doing other odd things or is it just the sound?

 

I am considering between 3 laptops at the moment...

HP Envy 15, XPS 16 (Or maybe even an Inspiron 17, albeit I really don't want such a huge screen) and the m15x.

m15x is a very solid machine - but are we likely to see GPU upgrades on it? Also, what is with Dell charging £410 just to go to 820M, other retailers charge that much to go to the 920M version of the i7...

by screwy I mean the video appears to have a filter on it... something like a photoshop effect but It might be because I'm hooking my laptop to a 52 inch HD TV???

 

Take a photo so we can try to figure out what exactly you are seeing. Make sure you set scaling to nVidia.

 

Dell tech came yesterday to install bluetooth in mine.There was no manual online in their system nor anyone was able to tell him on call where to install it.He took my whole laptop apart to figure where it is.Finally found near palm rest and fixed it.Its so bad to watch him open everything on the new laptop.He apologised but he too cannot be blamed.Dell is not giving these reps any manuals or directions to fix the bluetooth module.It sucks that i paid so much money for such a poorly run company

 

Yikes. Back then, all I knew was that the BT card was supposed to be installed somewhere in the palm rest area... but didn't have a clue how to open it. Thank god one of the mods gave me a link to a AW manual so I could look up how to open it and installed it on my own ^_^

 

anyone else have the problem of keyboard control/scrolling/inability to open dialogue boxes when the laptop is tilted as when you use it on your lap other than perfectly flat?
Tried to de-activate my ALien Touch only to find it is no longer functioning and I get an error message 'Value does not fall within the expected range' within command centre when I re-install cc and then go to use Touch.

 

installed the new Synaptics driver just posted and that has meant Touch is now activated within CC, so that's one issue resolved.
On Dell Community centre there is a post indicating that a revision/update to Command Centre for win7 is on its way.

 

We might have talked to the same agent. I was trying to get mouse and headset added to my order. She told me I had to cancel and they would still honor my epp 10% + $100 off coupon that was only valid the week before.

She emailed me the quote and after about 30 mins I got a new e-mail that they cannot honor my discounts and coupon. Her reason was some BS about the new order should be more expensive than the old order! duh.

Back-up plan was thru a very helpful Indian CS. The CS agreed to give me the headset and mouse for free and he will ship it once my order shipped. I got my laptop yesterday and the CS I talked to shipped the Headset and Mouse today with NBD shipping for free =) I got my order number and expected ship date is 12/12 lol.

Dell can still screw me by charging my credit card anyway. That will be a new call to dell when that happens.

 

sorry but this is BS on behalf of the tech: the manual for the M15 is posted online. Personally, anyone calling themselves a computer technician who can not use google and access Dell's support site wouldn't get close to my laptop. Moreover, its not that difficult: Roxy did it herself after getting the manual link sent to her on this thread (no offense Roxy!).

 

Fear of an incompetent tech takin my shiny brand new laptop apart is why I probably will not get blue tooth.

 

Why don't you guys just have them mail the BT to you? It's an end user replaceable part.

 

Just get them to ship it to you and install it yourself... I was able to install BT card & memory stick myself... ( and im a girl ) so it should be easy peasy for you.

I just got a call from Dell Delivers that my new toy will be here on the 26th

So all up that would make it a 2 week order not bad I guess.

No... the date that was mentioned is his/her EDD. It can arrive sooner or later than the mentioned date above.

 

10 more days and I can finally order mine. I've been without a puter since August 3rd.

 

No they just rang to confirm the delivery date for next week

But they did they get my hopes up a bit cause day before delivery they ring again to confirm that someone will be there the next day. I thought it was coming yesterday at first

I just received the display port to hdmi converter cable (3m) by startech. appears to be of good quality. will be using it to connect to the projector ;-).

so how do you like dragon age ? i was thinkin about getting it pretty soon so i figured i'd ask first and see. the only other game i have that may be similar to this is oblivion. do you play on max settings? if so how is it?

@ anybody who can help....i picked up Modern Warfare 2 and i was wondering is there any way i can play with a gaming controller? I have a logitech rumblepad 2, but when i go into the MW2 contols on the options menu i dont see anything allowing me to config my controller. is there any other way i can do this?
