What's with people saying AW is overpriced? I guess they aren't aware of Dell's discounts and constant promotions. See this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5543420#post5543420
-
Think you answered your own question my friend. The aggressive personality types who like to educate themselves to fullest extent possible for the maximum benifit winout the day. Even under the old AW I was able to get my M17 through discounts and haggling roughly priced the same as a Whitebook with the same specs. Anyways...hope ya'll enjoy your M15x, I'll still be living in jealously for some time now

I wouldnt be complaining about the US price, but the Canadian price is what pisses me off, since especially now when exchange rate is pretty close. Though of course I know its much more than the exchange rate when Dell.ca does its pricing.
Its the tax here that absolutely kills. 13% in Ontario, which is a hefty amount. -
Last weekend i called dell rep. to ask if i can get the headphone and mouse free as i received my order just 2 days before promotion started.I had to go through 4-5 calls in the day but in the end one of the reps instead gave me 125$ off the price.I took it but was not sure whether it will actually happen or how many more calls i have to make to actually get the deal. Finally today they returned 135$ to my credit card.Sometimes if we are patient and lucky we can get some good deals with dell. reps.

I don't know how it is in the US, but a kobalt g860, is pretty much spec'd similar to that of the m15x (albeit 280M instead of 260) and will come out cheaper. I think also, when matching the comanche SLI against the m17x, you can get it £500+ cheaper for same specs than Alienware/Dell - especially since Dell/Alienware really start to ripoff people on the charges on upgrades. It is £410.00 in UK to upgrade to 820M, while that is the price you pay total to upgrade to 920M on say, Kobalt.
-
I did not notice any improvement with battery life on windows 7. The performance and stability is a lot better though.
-
I guess I should have clarified that my post is specifically targeted toward the US market. In foreign markets the situation may be unfavorable for buyers vs Clevo but it isn't here, at least with respect to the M15x. Dell does charge too much to upgrade the M17x to SLi and I'm hoping that changes with the refresh. You also have to keep in mind that systems like the M17x are part of a very niche market so producing SLi mainboards and custom chasis must cost a lot of money vs the return they get. Clevo can do it cheaper because they don't change their design very much and they use cheaper plastic moldings. Furthermore, Clevo warranty and customer service doesn't come close to what Dell offers. I had a defective Clevo (W860) and had to pay $70 to ship it back to them for a refund (and since I returned it, they are going to charge me for initial shipping as well). Do you think Dell would have charged me anything to ship back a defective M15x? Absolutely not. I'll never touch a Clevo again for that reason alone. -
Ahhh a convert ...
-
Well I always liked Dell. I had a Dell Inspiron (one of the first ones that had the very solid build), Dell XPS 2 (loved it), Dell M1710 (loved it even more, sister owns it now but the 7950 gave out), Dell Studio XPS 16 (fantastic system, just runs a bit hot and needs a better graphics card), and now the Dell/AW M15x
Guess you could say I was experimenting with other brands but they just didn't measure up. Hopefully this M15x lives up to expectations. Admittedly I was harsh towards the M15x in the beginning, the looks just didn't appeal to me at all. It took a while to really start appreciating it.

Sup all, long time follower of these threads, great contributions from all of you!
I ordered my own m15x nov.13 and it went into production nov.20.
However my EDD is dec.15, and my question to you all is, how long was yours in production? -
I ordered on the 13th and it was shipped on the 20th. It went into boxing on the 18th I believe so about 5 days in production.
-
That's an often asked question - it varies considerably.
In the US the site simply says In Production while in actuality there are numerous phases underneath that, the most significant being "Boxing". There is a phone number to call on page 33 or 32 of this thread that will show you the actual status.
If they are waiting on parts, or are simply short on people to fulfill the orders, production can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. The lucky ones on here are those that ordered fairly readily available configurations of machines. Mine for example was in production for just 3 or 4 business days.
Boxing then takes time as they get a bunch of orders together into one shipment to the States. If your production finishes just prior to a shipment date then you'll only be in boxing for a day or so. In my case I was in boxing for about 3 business days.
Again, it varies considerably - there is no easy answer, and all the people that have called and had their orders 'expedited' feel, largely, that expediting is really just a crock to get a concerned customer off the phone quicker.
Patience is the key with these things unfortunately. -
Its a sad day indeed now that dellienware is no longer offering the free mouse and headset *sigh*. When I do call them they better give me a really good reason why I shouldnt get an Asus instead since it still comes with free mouse, backpack, and Arkem Asylem game. Plus under the same configuration dellienware is $200 more expensive and has less hard drive space. Soooo sad. But in a lighter note I had the weirdest dream that dellienware discontinued the nebula red in exchange for nebula blue.
-
I think there are better reasons to chose ALienware over Asus than simply freebies. If you go look at the latest reviews in the Asus forum and the 3dmark scores you'll also notice that the same configuration of Asus gets a whole 2000 less on 3dMark 06. Well specc'ed the Alienware kicks it's .

I just noticed today an audio issue with poping and stuttering on high volume...when i use an external usb soundcard it works fine on high volume
-
what about the keyboard stuttering guys ? i applied the latest bios update but it still happens time to time...
-
Yay! I'm in the boxing stage finally!
Hopefully that means it'll ship out soon.
Unfortunately I guess there was a shortage of Keyboard/Mouse that they were giving away as part of that promotion a little while ago so my KB/Mouse won't ship until EDD December 17th lol
Kinda silly, but free is free I guess. -
Here is a couple of weird issues.
I am running Windows 7 H/P. My Soundblaster X-Fi Cardbus card will occasionally stop working, all I have to do is pull it out and reseat it, go into the mixer and re-select it and it works. Hmmm
My bluetooth adapter will not allow my MS 5000 BT mouse to attach. The mouse shows up, it acts like it is joined, but it never works. I even searched the web for answers, I found this: http://owsug.ca/blogs/brad/archive/...0_-Solved-with-Vista-64_2D00_bit-Drivers.aspx
But that did not work.... Any ideas? -
I know this isn't really related to the current discussion, but has anyone else noticed the sudden price hike in 128gb SSD's? Maybe it is just for NZ but suddenyl a 256 is only like $15 more than a 126? Can someone please explain?

Supply and demand?

11/22/2009 17:19 Arrived at FedEx Ramp FORT LAUDERDALE, FL US
It's so close (14 miles away) yet I have to wait until tomorrow afternoon. FedEx always delivers at the last minute for my area to make the wait that much more excruciating. -
Wow, I just got a call that my m15x is supposed to be delivered today! I ordered mine on the 16th so just a week to actually get mine! They must have had that configuration handy already.
Can't wait to get home! -
^ wow what the.
i ordered 10th and it's still in "building" stage. -
Urgh I ordered mine on Nov 17th and even though it hasn't even been a week yet I feel as though it has been a lifetime! Never realized how dependent I am on my laptop before my last one blew up! Back to the waiting game... (which I'm horrible at btw)
-
You guys with i720 configs will probably wait longer than the rest of us. Dell is having trouble meeting studio xps 16 orders as well because of the i720 demand. If you want it faster, cancel and reorder with the i820.
-
then if u dont want the i820, trade it to me for my i720
-
Best Buy now has the M15x for only 1,599, lol its backordered already. Only thing sucks is that it doesn't have gtx 260 and also no blu ray drive, sheesh damn you best buy.
-
No 260m = fail
-
Well my m15x is up and running! One thing I noticed which is really cool is that when i connect it to my tv via the displayport to hdmi adapter, because my tv only goes up to 768p, when I turn on it on, the laptop is smart enough to automatically change the resolution to fit accordingly. When I turn the tv off, it bumps it back up to full HD for the laptop screen.
One question tho'...the colors on my tv seem to be a bit washed out...any idea how to increase the color saturation from the laptop settings? VGA cable from my previous comps look fine on it so its not the TV settings.
Thanks. -
that is windows not the laptop
also should be in Nvidia control panel -
I didnt have a problem, I ordered mine on the 12 of Nov and is already in Australia and will be at my house on the 26th. Thats exactly two weeks plus I have the i7 720qm
The whole thing has been really fast for me. -
I'm thinking now that the AVR is doing some upconversion on the video that's causing this. trying to find a way to have that disabled.
-
Would've bought the 820 if it wasn't a 3620skr upgrade (510 usd, 340eur).
The prices here in Sweden is crazy, all you guys in this thread that have complained about bad pricing and high taxes ^^
Try 25% tax!
-
id love 25% tax so long as they stop taking it out of my pay and got rid of other junk like ad velorum
-
so my csr was unable to explain to me why my order was delayed a whole week the day it was supposed to ship, she said the same old crap about "due to the high amount of demand, we have had to delay your order" has anyone else had their order delayed?
-
I ordered since the Oct 30th, on the 18th my order appeared "modified" and i was given a new number with a new date, as if I had just ordered it, it is now in production since this morning Estimated Shipping: Dec 8
The excuse they had was that they had a parts problem or something, then they said that my new order was being expedited, blah blah blah -
For 150 more you can get it at microcenter with the 260m at least.
-
I'm currently waiting on my M15x (EDD: 12/8), and I was wondering if someone that is lucky enough to already have theirs could do me a favor.
I plan on running Linux on mine, but I'm not sure of the exact hardware that these laptops have. Can someone use a Linux live CD (e.g., Ubuntu) and post the output of the following commands?
(May want to use pastebin or attach text files.)Code:lspci -v lsusb -v
This information would be very helpful to me. Thanks in advance. -
Mine is in production now...from yesterday afternoon.... when i called the dell order status line it is actually being assembled.
-
same here. EDD is 12/15. Does that mean it arrives at my house on 12/15 or it ships out on 12/15?
-
What is that number? I wonder if it works for Canadian orders?
-
it means arrives at your home on or before 15th next month... mine is on the same date too. ;-)
-
1-800-999-3355 this is the canadian dell helpline number...
-
I just sent a very very long email to my customer care supervisor basically scolding Dell for the poor customer service and unacceptable shipping times, and after I sent the email, I went to check the order status page...and found this. Boy, do I feel like a jerk now.
Order Status: Shipped
Shipping Method: Next Business Day
Shipped Date: 11/23/2009
Estimated Delivery Date: 11/24/2009 (updated) -
Mine's here! The build quality is fantastic, the screen is beautiful, the keyboard is very nice and responsive. The trackpad, as others noted, is a bit jerky but it's not difficult to get used to or adjust. The best part is, the system runs VERY QUIETLY during idle (haven't tried load yet). This is a huge contrast to my previous Sager 8690 which sounded like a jet engine even during idle.
I took a bunch of pictures and I plan write up a mini review and compare it to the Asus G60vx. I am however getting one error when I try to apply a change in the command center:
Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.
It gives that message and crashes. The change gets saved but this happens anytime I press apply. I'm guessing it's some software conflict with basic. -
Yeah that's new to me. I'm running win 7 64 bit / ultra ed.
-
Just tried that number and it is never ending hold. I have tried calling my original sales rep about 10 times over the past week and voice mail every time with no reply. I am starting to get annoyed. I assume they will not tell me any extra information about the notebook anyway.
Grats Joker! Looking forward to the review. -
Don't count on the reps to tell you anything useful. Mine had already shipped out and when I queried my rep on it's status, she replied back saying it was still in it's final stage of production.
BTW you are going to LOVE the display, it blows the Asus away. It's also better than the display found in Clevo/Sager, just like I expected--LG quality is top notch! This is definitely the best notebook I've ever owned and I'm just going by initial impressions. There's just so many little things about this notebook that make it stand apart from the competition.
-
Gratz Joker! so are you ordering one for yourself now? =)
