Ryzan--the M15x is mine. The gf graciously took an Asus G60vx instead.
The speakers actually sound pretty good, especially after the EQ is tweaked in the IDT control panel. If you guys haven't already, switch the sound quality to 24 bit 96000 hz, it sounds a lot better than the default setting.
-
Mine shipped! EDD December 1st though....doh!
-
Woot! I have been lurking here since the m15x (original) made its debut, and appreciate having been warned off from its shoddy build quality. Similar I am very happy at the individual reviews here of the new M15X - quite exuberant reviews actually - as they convinced me to go for it!
I was thinking of holding out for a potential 16" RGBLED screen, or even a faster video card... but the bigger picture dictated I get something now rather than waiting.
Now to wait patiently until it arrives (yeah...right!)

My M15X i ordered came with a 8X DVD slot Load drive, When I tested playing some DVD's yesterday I notice the drive is really loud aswell as there are alot of lag stutters throughout the playthrough. Is this considered normal? Would I expect to see the same lag/noise if I had ordered the slot load Blue ray drive instead?
-
cool. Thanks for the advice =)
-
Same with mine... Does anyone have an answer to this? XD
-
Welcome to the waiting game! My EDD is on the 11th so we should be getting our laptops around the same time. I'm kind of wishing I had gotten the upgraded 820 cpu but I didnt read that the performance gains were worth the extra 400. I plan on upgrading my laptop's harddrive to SSD during the summer once I've got more of a cash flow coming in maybe I'll bump up the cpu then too.
-
Yeah, the 820M usually isn't too noticeable a performance boost, but then again I do play Dwarf Fortress a lot and it is a massive CPU hog. I've also avoided upgrading Laptop CPUs/GPUs in the past... it is just too easy to mess something up So best to spend a hair more now than worry about it later I guess.
I hope both our systems arrive quickly! -
As long as I can play WoW on Ultra I'll be happy. Considering I was able to play it on high without shadows and AA on a lappy 2 and a half years old I think I'll be okay. That's the thing I love about WoW... everytime you bump up your hardware the game looks completely different
.
-
WoW can be deceiving though. I can play it on Ultra on mine as well, if I'm in low population zones. But as soon as I hit Dalaran or raiding, i have to turn it down significantly. I usually just run it on Medium now...
I'm guessing though with the GTX you should be fine on ultra during raiding and heavy population areas -

Congrats man! I can hear the giddiness loud and clear through your post.
Mine is still with the fed. I guess they are taking the scenic route because it took All day Saturday, Sunday and most of Monday for mine to go from Nashville, TN to Ellenwood Georgia. It still says on schedule for delivery tomorrow (in Jax, FL) so I'm guessing it will be driven over here over night. If they push it till Wednesday I'll be pissed! -

Did a 25-man Ony on the M15x with my Hunter a few days ago (Just moved and no Internet yet with the desktop, so I had to find a connection
), everything to max, Shadows off, no AA/AS @ 1600x900 and it was absolutely silky smooth. Very, very playable and very, very impressed.
@ Idle, this thing is whisper quiet.
Even playing WoW it is very very quiet even when raiding.
Like Joker said, the LG screen is just gorgeous.
It fits perfectly in the Slappa 4:1 bag.
I am beyond impressed with this thing. -
I usually raid on my 24 inch monitor but this screen might make me reorganize my desk somewhat to make the M15x front and center. I'm also stoked for the fact that I'll be able to have this thing on my lap while giving my cooling pad a much deserved rest... my last one probably would have given me 3rd degree burns if I had tried using it without the pad.
-
Thats good to hear. Though based on your config you have the top of the line processor, so I'm wondering if that's why it may be better than on a standard 1.6 Ghz Core i7.

I spent a few days using the M15X on my lap and for surfing and even gaming before I manage to unpack my lapdesk, and it really did not get hot. It was farming in WoW which is a single player endeavor so the CPU isn't taxed nearly as much as in a raid situation where the player data computations are pretty CPU intensive. The cooling system in this thing is top notch. Remember, this is with a 55w 920XM!
I did a 10 man Ony an hour ago while in AC @ Caesars (Down here for a Sun-Tues comp stay) on the flat circular marble table in the room and it ran very quiet with great temps. Only way I've been able to really stroke up the fans is throwing Prime95 max heat at it.
And as always, if you're in A.C. @ Caesars, hit up Morton's Steak house. Don't bother doing the formal seating thing. Instead, hit up the bar area for immediate seating and order the Prime Burger for dinner and Carrot Cake (their signature dessert) w/ Ice Cream. Get in after 9 or 5-6 and get their wicked bar bites for $6/ each to complement their wicked burgers.....and seriously, the best Carrot Cake I've ever had.
Since WoW is pretty CPU intensive, will a 920XM benefit you more than a 720 or 820? Of course, but I wouldn't say it makes or breaks WoW. -
thanks for the advice on the sound -- does improve things. Knew you would love the screen and overall build and feel of the M15.
Great that your GF accepted the Asus but I just know that you will ultimately pay for this -- there will come a time when she sees something and she will look at you and go 'oh, remember when I took the Asus and let you have the M15?' -- you are so toast! -
how do I switch to24 bit 96000 hz sound ?
-
just got my 9-cell today
love it, and i like how it props the laptop up
New from dell $199
one i bought from a NBR member $85 (Came in the plastic, and still had the protective wrap on it...) -

thanks roxy
-
No problem ^_^v
-
There's also another way to improve the sound quality.
( For those who didn't know this )
Tweaking ftw!
-
how did you get that price. I config one and it came to about $2400
-
roxy comes through again thanks for the sound tip
-
Haha well I can already tell that she'll be expecting something in return for taking the Asus. She looked as if she regretted giving up the m15x today when she saw it
Overall though she's pretty happy with the Asus.
-
Thanks mate, much happier with my speakers now.
Really wish I could help with that HRESULT E_FAIL error you're getting. Frustrating thing is that I was getting it but don't any more and I have no idea what fixed it
Pretty sure it started after I installed some codecs and video conversion software. I must have installed something since then that un-broke it...
-
6 more days till I can place my order WOOHOO! I'm still waiting on a confirmation though if the new ATI cards will work in the M15x or will there be some sort of power issue.
-

In case anyone else is interested in Linux support, I'm receiving mine tomorrow and will be updating here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1327261 -
Good luck. I decided to play it safe and run Linux through Virtual Box. The performance is pretty damn awesome (once you turn on the Virtualization Extensions on the i7 in the Bios). -
I did this with a quad dv6t and was pretty impressed. The i7 seems to be superb for virtualization. By the way, when you create your machine in Virtual Box, make sure to enable PAE, VT, and Nested Paging.
Is there any chance you'd be willing to boot to the live disc and just run a few commands? -
Hey guys (and Roxy), for those of you who do not support McAffee and Symantec and use AVG instead, check this out. It fixes a known Windows 7 issue, that being random minimization of full-screen programs.
-
my m15x has been delivered to the post office at my school, just waiting for them to do inventory and send me the email to go and get it!!!!
-
I've enabled those settings - performance is outstanding.
SUre, I'll run your commands, but it won't be until tonight when I get home I'm afraid. -
Day 2 and all is well with the notebook, still amazed at its quality. Except now I received a delay email for the headset/mouse until 1/22 so I've been stuck on the phone with Dell trying to get the order changed to the newest promotion.
Edit: The supervisor wouldn't do it. He was also being very persistent about me keeping the promotion despite it being back ordered. I really had to push him to cancel the order, he kept making excuses up for why I should keep the promotion. Then he claimed he may not be able to do it because it was part of a promotion. I guess they really hate losing out on orders. -
I placed an order through the phone, the guy said there will be an order confirmation email pop in my mailbox, but i haven't reveived any yet. Then I phoned Dell, another guy said they are going to phone me to comfirm the order by today (because i asked them to pursue the process). However, no phone call at all..........I just want to be sure my order has been through to the product line. Any advise?
-
It can take anywhere from a few hours to a day before you get confirmation. -
my order confirmation email took 3 days
-
Thanks, dude. I just don't want it to be deliverd after Xmas.
-
Thanks..
-
ye i was kinda worried... was about to call them when i finally saw the email in my inbox!
-
My order just shipped!!!
-
I put in my order a little less than a week ago and the rep today told me that it is almost ready to be shipped....
-
nice! where do u live?
-
That is really weird about the headset and mouse though. I received my M15x today and my mouse/headset were shipped today as well and I'm receiving them tomorrow, so I don't know why they are delaying you at all because I didn't even have the two accessories with my order in the beginning! Also the M15x is amazing! Joker are you using the 186.81/186.82 drivers or the 195.55 ones?
-
I ordered the Headset and Mouse as a separate order back on 11/14. A week ago I was notified that it would be delayed until 12/15. Today they told me it would be delayed until 1/26/2010. I received a phone call from Dell (automated phone call) that told me that the order would be delayed and that by law Dell has to give me notice and the opportunity to cancel the order.
For those wanting the TactX headset and mouse may have quite a wait before they have them in stock. -
What Intel i7 based laptops, compare to m15x's cooling system? This is a huge factor to why I want an m15x tbh, cool machine = long life, less sending off to places to have it fixed etc.
