Go with the 900p screen, it's gorgeous and it fits perfectly with a 15.6" size.

I'm actually going to vouch for the 1920x1080 screen. I had the 1920x1200 screen on the M17 and I thought it was perfect, so I debated whether or not I needed a similar resolution on a smaller screen, but I went ahead and ordered the 1080p LCD with my M15x and I'm loving it. I'm a big fan of high resolutions and the higher resolution is great on the M15x. I feel that it makes the laptop look a little more professional and sophisticated; there's nothing I hate more than low-res. I actually changed my resolution to 1600x900 to see what life is like on the other side, and I did not like it at all. Everything was just so big and it made me feel like I was using just any old laptop that was nothing special.

On another note, I will say that if you are older and/or have poor eyesight, the 1080p screen may not be for you. Things will appear very small.

Thanks for all your answers, including on the previous page, I think I will buy this machine sometime early/mid December (I am willing to sacrifice on size, instead of going for Hp Envy/XPS16/DV's etc, I need reliability! I had a laptop fry on me its not fun! Plus the M15x is so sexy). Also, I hear a lot about SSD - making a huge difference in performance. One thing also about the SSD, is there any issues I should be aware of them, such as lifetime etc in comparison to normal HDD's?

Also, 6 cell vs 9cell, should I bother? I hear the 9 cell brings up system hence making it better at cooling, but whats your verdict (I won't be using it without adapter anyway)?

I hear having a 1080p resolution can affect gaming, or is this only if you decide to game on native res?

I'm pretty sure that solid state drives have a substantially longer lifespan than regular HDDs.

As far as the battery goes, I have the 9-cell, but only because I need as much battery life as I can get because I use my laptop in my college classes. But, if you're never going to go on battery power, I don't see the $100 justification in just having it be elevated for better cooling, seeing as how the laptop has phenomenal cooling as it is anyways.

Both the 1080p and the 900p resolutions are 16:9 aspect ratio lcd's, so the only reason the 1080p lcd will be disadvantaged is when you're playing games at native res.

Just noticed something really weird. Although all of the upgrades on the US site are substantially cheaper than on the Canadian site, the 9 cell battery is only a $50 upgrade on the Canadian site. I would have went with that if I noticed how cheap it was.

Hey guys I am having a problem. I upgraded to Windows 7 (please don't flame me, yes I know a clean install is preferred, but I am busy).
So anyway, my Intel NIC is not working, the driver is incompatible, but when I try to install the correct driver it says:
and then it closes. I try to remove the program from the Add/Remove programs and here is what I get:
I have searched high and low for a solution, anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Yeah but this means I have to wait till Dec. 30th to order, was gonna order originally on Nov. 30th and just do upgrades every 2 weeks later but doing it this way will save me a few hundred bones. But I'm not really concerned with the later money issue right now. So I'm kinda torn, get a basic system now or get the top CPU and some extras in another month?

I'm thinking I'll wait then, because it will save me well over $1000 of doing the upgrades later. Just wish I could get a small loan now though but because I have a student loan I'm paying off I can't get one. :(

The upgrade to the CPU alone is enough worth waiting for I think. I plan to max out the RAM later, just to costly right now. Gonna stick a SSD in later to and just get a 1.5TB external Esata. Don't really wanna upgrade the GPU till Fermi comes out (yes I can wait for that). Blu-Ray isn't a big deal to me, if I wanna watch Blu-Ray I'll get a PS3 like I'm planning on doing later anyway.
Buuuuut..... Now that I recalculated my finances I can actually order it on Dec. 15th. YAY!

I cancelled my g51j after multiple fail attempts by this UPS delivery guy i had enough of the BS(left as soon as bell rang the 1st time, never even rang the bell on the 2nd attempt, and since tmr is a holiday, I won't be able to get it until monday)so screw it, i called UPS and told them to send the package up their lazy UPS driver instead. Now I'm waiting for gentechpc to reply back to see If i can get my refund back.

So I justwent ahead just ordered the m15x from dell, got about $170 discount total with an added in AW headset/mouse, the headset i could really use, I'll probably give the mouse to my sister since i have an mx518, just wondering butdoes the m15x have a built in webcam?

Hope this is worth it :p

you have to go into device manager and uninstall the device itself, the Intel 5300, in addition to the drivers and then install the correct drivers from the Dell site (and not the drivers from the Intel site, which are newer but not fully compatible with the Alienware). The device itself re-installs when you re-boot in the install of the driver.
It then runs smoothly and is very stable.

I refused shipping of a laptop last year and my CC company told me legally the seller has to refund the money. They said if they would not issue a refund, to contact the them (Visa) again and they would take care of it. So basically, if you refused shipping, and therefore did not receive the product, they have to refund you.

Whew, I was somewhat worried that i would get a deduction or something for sending it back, but since I didn't even open the package i should get my full refund back, and since it's the Asus g51j gentech shouldn't have problem selling it(took me 3 weeks to get it sent out to me due to high demand) The dell rep said i well get the m15x sometime next Friday/week after, can't wait to play games of this and taunt my little nephew with it :D
