Dell does offer discounts for students depending on your school, but it is typically 5-7%.

The windows 7 coupon program works as follows: once you get your system, there should be a coupon with a cd key on it. You go online, register the information and I believe dell or microsoft mails you the cd. It supposedly is going to take a few weeks. Unless it has changed recently? Anyone else chime in? :D

Congrats! I ordered mine last night finally its switched to "In Production". I ended up getting best of everything except the cpu, ram, and HDD I got the base cpu and 500gb hd. I figured the base CPU is beast right now and should keep up with a t9600 If It starts falling behind in a year or two a processor seems like a simple upgrade. I really hope we can break the 3 hour mark with a 9 cell.

    This is my theory:

    1) Alien FX off
    2) Stealth enabled
    3) Brightness set to low
    4) bluetooth off
    5) Vista profile set to battery (mobile)

I honestly think, based on the reviews I have seen so far regarding the I7's, that we can realistically expect 2:30 on battery power if the above points are done. Those are my 2 cents. :D

I'm gonna pick up the 6-hour since its comes included in the price and just buy a 9-cell afterwards so I have a spare battery.

If I OPT for the Alienware mouse, the alienware command center can change it's colors right? Aswell as the alienware keyboard colors also?

Pleasantly surprised this beast is offered through Dell's Employee Purchase Plan (go to http://www.dell.com/eppbuy/). 7% discount and free ground shipping.

Went with middle processor, 3GB of 1033 memory, 500GB HD, Blu-ray ROM drive, 1GB video, 1920x1080WLED, 6 cell battery. Figured memory would be easy to replace in a few months. 3 year hardware warranty.

Will get the 9 cell battery with a $200 American Express rewards certificate.

I even talked my wife into letting me get it. That's a moment for Ripley's.

The price of M15x dropped around $200 in Australia a few days after release. There's also the coupon code for 15% for M15x making it even cheaper.

Im having such a hard time deciding if I should get the m15x or m17x.
Need a good gaming laptop.. m15x is cheaper with a better processor but not as good gpu.. m17x cost more better gpu(dual) but no core i7.. what to do what to do..

Well, if you get the cf ones I'll buy the second card from ya.

Let's see.... The upgrade to a single 4870 is $300. The dual is $700.

I'll give you $400 for the second card and it was like you never even spent extra ;)

Oh, and shoot me a pm. I might be able to convince you further :)

Just as a warning guys, at least with stock vbios, the 4850 slave card from the M17 isnt bootable by itself. Not sure if thats true of these too. I dont know if lack of display was down to vbios or the cut/missing connector though.

Just depends on if you need to move it and what you are willing to spend, if you are going to leave it at home then by all means go for the m17x since the m17x packs plenty of power with the cpu's it comes with and that much more gpu power

However if you are in my shoes then the m15x more suits my needs since I will be taking it to class and just for some not crysis level gaming

The whole thing about the 260 sucking is really getting old, wish Moo was here to chime in on this one but the difference between a single 260 and a 280 is minimal, especially when you OC the 260 theres nothing it shouldn't play well. I think Its also physically the same card with a few more shaders or something. They probably put a 260 in because of power consumtion issues or heat. And no they wont change the card that it ships with in the coming weeks, I bet they wont change anything about it until the 5000/300 series of cards is available which will probably be 4-6 months. Assuming that the 5000 series rumors are true they will only be 40ish W draw and would make a good upgrade for the M15x if AW sells them. Also the chipset shipping with the M15x is probably more future proof considering i7's will probably be on sale for pretty cheap in 6-18 months (just go on newegg or something now and you can buy good DUO and Quad chips for under $500)

On a side note has anyone on these forums changed the processor in the M17x yet? Be interested to hear about the results

Supposedly, the power draw for the high end broadway xt evergreen part from ATI will be 45 - 60W.

So yeah, it would work in the M15x :D

    It's tough. Buying high-end notebooks is really a crap-shoot.

Dell will eventually have a part number for anything they sell. Problem is their pricing can get quite rediculous :(

that's what i was thinking the price for those 4870;s is going to be ridiculous like 2000 for two with the heatsink and xfire cable but we can purchase a new system with everything low specs only with dual 4870's for 2500 and swap the cards keep the best system and sold the other one on ebay for 2000 we going to spend like 500 for the 4870's only :)
