Wait till the i7 hits the M17x then its going to get ugly with how many will be for sale :). Someone wants to buy my M17 so i now have to decide if i want another M17x myself with the ATI cards or something different all together .

Lol. everyone is making everyone elses decisions. there's to much choices. not like last year where the np9262 was the king. (but expensive)..... and the 9280 would also be king but no sli. but that's a different topic........

Honestly if the 9850 had the ATI cards i would probably opt for that mainly cause of my attitude towards the screen in the M17x . I love the machine alot but the screen just makes me want to poke my eyes out :(. Especially after using that screen on my M17 . I know Clevo will not be getting the ATI cards anytime soon or probably never since they work closely with Nvidia .

So i have to decide now if i should just sit tight and see if they announce a new M17x soon with LED and i7 but ill be honest and i dont think its going to happen any time soon, my best guess would be the next E3 or Winter CES(more likely this one jan 2010) as Dell is just to smart to pass up on all that free media attention and rightly so.

Only other machines in the forecast are the other new Clevos but those have 280s in them and there Single card machines . So right now there really is not any choice beyond the M17x if you want to be on the cuttinng edge of Mobile GPUs.

The only things that's holding me back to buying the M15x is a few reasons
    - The GPU isn't ATI and the GTX260m is a bit outdated
    - The 1080p res might be too high for a 15.6" screen
    - No HDMI port :(

I can live with no HDMI or high res but the colours of ATI are better than Nvidia. When the M15x does have an option for ATI i will buy it.

For a mobile card the 260 is not too dated but I see your point, you can go with the option to get the 1600x900 but I am not sure what you mean by colors better on an ATI card

I use the NEC 30" LCD3090WQXi for my desktop and when I compared a nvidia (9800GTX) to an ATI(HD3870) and the colours were different. The ATI showed better colour contrast and the nvidia was pale. So i'm assuming it's the same situation in laptops.

I'm talking about the new M15x. The old M15x doesn't exist anymore in Aus.

Also there's currently no option for 1066mhz ram in Aus. Only 1333mhz.

So is your complaint you dont want to shell out the money for the higher screen or you think max resolution would be to small? you could always turn the resolution down...

As many of these fine, experienced gamers would tell you (I think I just got you first xD).....is that when the resolution is turned down from its native, there's a very noticeable degrade in visual quality.

    A.K.A. a 1600 x 900 screen would have much better quality than a 1920 x 1080 screen scaled down to 1600 x 900.

1600x900 Res on a 15'' should be perfect on both quality/performance.

Is there any real difference between a 16:9 ratio compared to 16:10 ratio?

They difference is exactly the ratio so the picture is going to look like a widescreen TV now, but in this case it does not matter since the only option is 16:9 and according to other threads everyone is moving in that direction :/

On WideFHD for the 1920x1080 what does the F mean?
Because the 1600x900 version is just WideHD

I'm pretty sure HD is for High Definition

"F" means "Full", as in "Full High Definition"- 1080p, as apposed to 720p.

yeah, too many unanswered questions, like how much of an OC will that "fixed OC" clock, does that "fixed OC" work on all core i7 chips, etc.

now that's worse than i thought. i assume "fixed OC" works on top of turbo mode. darn, so the whole point of paying 890 Pounds for i7 920XM "extreme" processor is?

You still have unlocked multipliers but it's not the same as the old generation procs/architecture. Maybe a future bios upgrade will open things up more.

I have seen benches of the 820 and if performs very well. So I went with that.

I figured $350 wasn't too much (Dell still charges $500 for the T9900 on the SXPS 1640).

Tray prices for this proc are around $540. So doing some simple math I thought the price was very fair.

I'm going with the i7 720, it should perform well. Check this out.

The Intel Core i7 720QM processor performs up to 151% faster than the Intel Pentium Dual Core T4300 processor.
The Intel Core i7 720QM processor (1.60GHz) performs up to 137% faster than the Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 processor.
The Intel Core i7 720QM processor (1.60GHz) performs up to 101% faster than the Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 processor.
The Intel Core i7 720QM processor (1.60GHz) performs up to 74% faster than the Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 processor.
