I hope this is a better pic. Yes, this is full brightness.

Edit: To me, this is a better pic regarding the dimness.

    Yep.

The top is brighter than the bottom.

I took a look and it seems some keys don't have there own LED. The M17x each key has their own.

One comforting thought is that my 280 worked with the M15x. So future upgrades are very possible.

This is killing me... aesthetically, the M17x was impeccable. I ordered the M15x under the same presumed design build. Hearing this is wreckin' my day.

Just try it out before you jump to any conclusions.

Dell is good about returns so you don't have anything to worry about.

correct me if im wrong, but isnt magnesium alloy stronger than aluminum? so in this case, the construction material is extremely durable right? or are there other reasons why aluminum is the better material?

There is nothing wrong with magnesium.

I don't like painted laptops and I prefer aluminum. Aluminum is much more expensive so the thought of $2k comes to mind ;)

The RGBLED screen is better with colors for sure.

I think the M15x screen is brighter though.

you are saying the BIOS recognizes 280M GTX without a hitch? that's good news. how about the temperature under load? can the M15x handle it or any stability issues given the "65W power budget" constraint?

Has anyone gotten one with the 1600x900 screen yet?

Thats what I ended up ordering since 1080 screen seemed like the font would be too small.

I ran vantage twice. Didn't have hwmonitor installed but I can tell you it ran warmer than the 260.

No problems though. It ran just fine and put out a reasonable amount of heat to be expected.

I got some pics of the lighting in an extremely bright and an average room Ill post in a min I gotta sign up for photobucket or something. I must be the only one here who didn't have an M17x before getting this because I couldn't imagine needing/wanting brighter lights. Once I figure out stealthmode and this wierd audio issue I'm having while gaming I'll be all set.

Yeah I'm going to soon i'm just trying to update my drivers to see why I am getting this repeated popping while playing EVE online (the only game I have installed bc I had the install saved on a 4gb thumb drive). Man lemme tell you though I was playing last night on my old lappy and WOW the 1080p screen is so sharp and bright I couldn't imagine using any LCD like my old one now.

Something I noticed, and Sleey0 I would love your feedback on this as well. When on powersaver mode, there sure is alot of delay when doing anything from web surfing to watching videos on youtube. Now, I understand it is on powersaver and it is supposed to downclock everything, but it just seems slower than normal. Anyone else having this problem?

btw.. so far on a full charge, I have been using it from surfing the web and doing a paper for school, it shows on full charge a total of 2:25 mins of run time. Seems accurate so far, I am definitely NOT liking that. I am still on the fence with the laptop though. It does look very nice, I am not sure right now if the price is justified. That's just my opinion.

Forgot to mention regarding battery so far.

    Bluetooth off
    Alien FX off
    Vista powersaver on
    Brightness set to low

Ok, something is wonky with power saver mode. Not sure if the I7's don't like it. If anyone else has some experiences, please let me know. If that is the case, I cannot keep this laptop since I need something that can give me more than 2 hours. *arrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*

I think the body feels great.

I know.. yeah, that's what she said. :p

I think the reason some of us are disappointed, is because of the price paid and the fact that it is a painted.

Yep. In power save I couldn't even type because there was like stuttering. Every other letter wouldn't show when typing.

That and the trackpad was unusable too.

Rome, honestly, it is not what I expected. It is not bad per say.. just that there is alot that I think they could have improved from the original m15x. The hinges on this thing is rock solid though! :D Now with the issue I am noticing with powersaver, it is not something I will honestly be able to take to school. So to answer your question, if I had to do it all over again, I would stick with the M17x I originally had.

    Bingo...

    Better proc, better screen...

Not to mention the price. I just went back on Dell's site and priced out the M17x again.

    Q9000 - Add $250
    Single 260m
    WUXGA Screen - Add $150

Roughly a little more than $500 more than the M15x... with a lesser proc and screen. If I wanted more GPU power, then w/o a doubt get the M17x, but be prepared to open the wallet.

Wow, that's um consistent? Finding the cause is not easy. Start with some basics like shutting down the AW based apps and see if it still happens. What are the CPU options in the bios (besides turbo mode)? I would suggest turning off turbo mode on the cpu and see if it makes a difference.
