Yes but at least the chassis is not plastic... I am not sure why the magnesium chassis would make you send the PC back?

Probably cause he feels for the money he spent, the 15 should be in the same build quailty as the 17?

I'm still confused about what your saying about the outer casing though, is it painted magnesium or plastic? If it is magnesium on the outside It's def not enough for me to send mine back. Either way I'll probably keep mine, the casing is far nicer then the plastic HP sitting next to me. The stealthmode thing is driving me nuts, dont know what to think about that one...

magnesium is better than plastic, i'm just mad dell lied to me after emailing, chatting, and talking on the phone, all three times they said it was anodized aluminum.

Don't worry you wont be dissapointed when you get your hands on it, the build quality is still sweet. I'm going to have to get on the phone tomarrow though about this stealthmode issue to verify that it is a problem and stealthmode infact does work with battery. If anyone here figures out how to remedy this before me keep us posted. Sleey0 just out of curiosity are you sending it back because you think it wont cool as well or something? What are the cooling properties of magnesium vs. aluminum,

    Everyone settle down, please. hahah

Nah, the chassis isn't a piece of crap or anything. I was expecting nice, cold anodized aluminum ;)

Is it worth the $2k to keep it? I don't think so, especially since the prices for i7 will come down.

My thought on it is you might as well get a M17x. Yeah the screen is 1000x better on the M15x and i7 is nice, but to me it isn't worth it.

The M15x is a very nice system, no doubt. I just want to make sure I like it enough to decide between the two, and the M15x loses.

Another thought.... The chassis is painted. Good luck with scratches, etc.

It's like if you were to buy a firearm. You pay for a nickel or stainless finish, and they send you a blued piece instead.

Not gonna fly with me! I know Dell didn't advertise it was aluminum per se, but they did when they decided on the price.

And the cold steel feel is worth a whole lot to me! I am sure the 15x is awesome, however I think they made some poor decisions on it.

Look, if you haven't felt or seen the M17x, you are going to love the M15x.

I am just a little underwhelmed is all. There is a ton of wasted space with the design though. The screen is tiny compared to the lid it is built into.

Sorry to hear its not what you expected Sleeyo. Cutting costs on a machine that expensive when it comes to build quality is pretty poor show.

Dell doesn't usually charge any restock fees.

At least with the 20 or so returns I have done they haven't charged me.

Ok, got mine.. and I am unfortunately underwhelmed. As mentioned before by Sleey0, the chasis is magnesium, and although still looks wonderful, I was and still am spoiled by the aluminum on the M17x. I can also confirm that stealth does not work on battery.. I mean.... what the heck? Alien FX is quite dim comparing to the M17x. I am seriously contemplating returning my M15x for the 17x. I also need at least 3hrs of battery life and right now with power saver mode and internet use I am getting about 2:18-30 mins on the M15x. I will post some more thoughts in a bit.

Skumbag dont fret man you'll like the system. Will all due respect sleey0 just said hes sent back 20 computers so I'm guessing his standards are much higher then most. Dont know how bright the lighting is on the M17x but its not bothing me a bit. I dont need to tan under the LEDs just see when I type at night. But I would advise you to check it out when it comes and see what you think for your self. If its not your cup of tea send it back. I'm keeping mine for sure. On the other hand they need to address this stealthmode thing asap, I see this as a major problem at the moment.

I am right now doing a full charge and will report accurately on the battery life, but yes, with a 94% charge I was able to get roughly 2.5 hours. So, not sure if I will be able to pull off 3 hours plus.

I would also agree with the above. The only way you can notice little things that may bother you is if in fact you have another M17x side by side for comparisons. Or if you at least had one earlier. Otherwise you should be good to go.

Honestly, stealth may not do much for the M15x since it doesn't have an IGP.

Putting the system in power save most likely does the same thing.

It would work just fine though. There are win7 drivers for the M15x on dell's support site.

Wow pretty disappointed as I was waiting for Sleey to get his and give me some reassurance

I also thought they just forgot to mention aluminum when selecting chasis color, Dell obviously knows everyone assumed it was aluminum for this price and praise

Definitely going to have to give this some more thought or wait until they comes out with something else :(

Ok some more things to add.

Monitor: Absolutely awesome. On one of the pics, I had full brightness and my Iphone could not take the pic properly..hehe.

Size: Pretty portable for me in regards to size and doesn't feel that heavy to me at least.

    Battery: Still under tests

Looks: Pretty nice, much nicer than alot of things out there right now.

Touchpad: Same rough pattern as the M17x, does not feel that responsive to me. I am sure a driver can fix that issue.

Alien FX: very dim comparing to the original M15x and the current M17x.

Chasis: Very sturdy, not plastic, but definitely not aluminum!

Yes, the Windows 7 coupon came with the unit. I will try to give even some more impressions as the evening continues.

Sorry about the pics everyone. It was done with my iphone.

It is alot more dim in person. Again this is comparing it to the M17x and the original M15x. Yes, the camera is accentuating the ambient light a bit more.

Can one of you take a pic that does show off what the keyboard looks like? Has there been any program that can adjust the brightness of the keys? At least for the M17x...
