TBH no.. not much... may be a frame or two more... but 3dmark06 showed around 300 or so extra points...
and on a side note the so called GLASS E2E screen is not really Glass it is plastic... How i know?? well i tried scratching it with a small pointed needle on the corner...(not visible but enough to prove its plastic)
-
I might do it anyway, for 2 frames it might not be worth it!
Why did you returned your M15x O_O It looks like a dream machine O_O
EDIT: actually no, I didnt know! -
i returned mine cuz the m17x is the same size pretty much, and one 4870 outperforms the hell outa a gtx 260m. and two of them is crazy. plus the 5870's are coming out soon so yeah. i think most people who are serious gamers and got an m15x before the refresh are returning them to get the refresh. i only got the m15x cuz of core i7. i mean as apposed to having gotten an older m17x
-
well i was not happy with the throttle issue... tho it wasnt a major problem with the fix but it still bothered me knowing i payed 2k pounds and i still have to use a fix... and when i saw moo's m15x vs m17x comparison picture i realized they both are of almost same size... and now they have the new m17x-2 so i thought its better for me to return and get the new M17x...
-
Baw, I dont have more money and anyways, a M17x is like 15 pounds, it's abusive!
PLus I dont need any of this power for now, the gtx 260M is more than decent already! -
I see..
Well I havent even tried my M15x yet so I guess I'll see how abd is the throttling going.. And then I'll have 21 days to decide what can I do! -
carefull u don't get stuck with restocking fee, and really it's only 2 pounds of difference. and it's only 1.5 inches wider and within an inch of all other measurements of the m15x
-
I dont think it is ethical for them to charge restocking fee when the fault is already there (throttle) they really have no answer to that... press hard and u will not have to pay any restock...
-
Yeah, I really don't feel it's ethical either. I mean they should have addressed this MONTHS ago, as soon as it was brought up.
Realistically it NEVER should have shipped like this. Surely they'd test ANY computer they design with some high end programs, but apparently Dell didn't bother pushing a high end system specifically sold for gaming. -
i have been, i finally went to the bbb filed tonight, calling tomorrow to let them know.
-
I'm having my screen replaced tomorrow hopefully but i too have been very unimpressed with that fact that this machine does infact throttle even with the new bios. does anyone know when the 21 days start? does it start from when you ordered or from when you recieve it?
-
from the date u receive it... In UK it just 7 days.... I called them after 1.5 weeks telling them i just noticed the issue... to be honest there is nothing they can do (until the bios fixes it) other than giving u a replacement (telling u yours is a remote incident, then you have to bring them here to this forum) press hard and they WILL have to give u a replacement... they dragged me a good one month and a week before agreeing to issue a refund though..... according to the UK consumer law the date specified(7 days) is not final but depends on the circumstances (from a legal advisor)...
-
so i have 8 days to try to and see if i can get this thing replaced for an M17x instead. is it worth trying?
-
i dont think they will let u replace that easily (they have a like to like replacement policy)....that is the mistake i did and it took so long for me... ask for a FULL refund instead... and dont take a verbal answer... request them to send a mail confirming the refund.
-
yea i figured thats what i would have to end up doing, get the money back and then start over.
-
Could anyone who's had a good experience with Far Cry 2 on the M15x with 720m please post their in-game settings / what GPU driver used / anything else they think might be helpful? Mine runs like a dog with one leg, whereas Crysis on High everything and 1600x900 runs fine, so I suspect a big software issue going on.
By the way, whoever it was, I don't have that creaking beside the touchpad.
Also, anyone have an OptX hooked up to their M15x? Considering getting this, but wondering if I need to buy extra cables/adaptors to set it all up.
Thanks. -
Does anyone have the I5 chip? Intel say it has a gpu built on the board so my question is does stealth mode work with I5 and how is the battery life?
-
Well since the i5 power consumption is lower than the i7's, the battery life will be longer, but it wont make a huge difference...
-
-
So I ordered this M15x on the 17th.
i7 720QM
6GB DDR3 @ 1066
15.6-inch @ 1600x900
GeForce GTX 240M
I just found these forums and I was reading all the past posts and was wondering if someone could clarify what this throttling issue is exactly. I am having doubts after ordering this thing now. -
Throttling does not occur with the GTX 240M Graphics card, and can be fixed via a guide Joker created for us if you happen to have the GTX 260M and experience it. Don't worry, I love my M15X and hope you do too!
-
i love mine.
man whats up with this thread lately? it should be called former M15x owners.lol -
pretty much, i'm trying to get my returned, i love it it's a great lappy, but for the footprint the m17x refresh is more worth it in my opinion.
-
I think this thread is getting too pro-m17x and anti-m15x and scaring those that just bought the m15x and you are probably unnecessarily making them regret their decision. If you go onto the configurator and price out semi-equivalent laptops for the m15x and m17x there is quite a difference in price as well to take into account. So really, if you want a slightly smaller, slightly lighter, slightly lower costing laptop, I think the m15x is a great way to go. It plays all my games blazingly fast (mostly been playing WoW, Crysis, and MWF2), runs fairly quiet, and is pretty much at the top end of what I would want the thing to weigh.
So to those that ordered an m15x and are coming here and cringing at your decision, don't. The m15x is a great laptop. Can you get slightly more performance from an m17x? Yes, but you also then have slightly more weight, dimensions, and price to it as well. -
no thats not what i meant, the m15x is an amazing laptop, and i love it. but i didn't realize how big it was, thats the only reason i want to return it. i thought it was gonna be a little smaller slightly more portable, for me it isn't, and i'm getting a new desk and monitor so i figure i would go with the m17x r2 as it has hdmi. other than lack of hdmi the m15x is an amazing laptop, wicked fast and runs anything i throw at it.

Basically, if your one of those hardcore gamers AKA SUPER NERDS, you'll want a M17x, as 2x 4870's in sli is a huge performance boost in gaming, and that is the ony real performance increase your getting with an m17x. So if your a normal guy like me and not one of these super geeks who jizz their pants for a high benchmark score ( who really cares anyways? is is gonna get you laid in the next 20 years? NO.) get the M15x as it WILL be able to play any game you throw at it, maybe not MAXED OUT TO THE EXTREME, but high enough settings to surpass enjoyable by a longshot. Sure it has one hardrive, but do you REALLY need 2? Sure it has a smaller screen but i thought laptops were for portability? and the M15x is borderline, so the M17x is just Wayyy too big if you want to bring that thing anywhere. Here are people pullign out their slim macbook pros, and your gonna pull out something that could fit 3 of them inside it. Sure its only about 1.5 inches wider and almost an inch bigger all around, and wieghs 15 pounds(could use this thing to anchor down a boat) but the point is, the M15 really should have been 3-4 pounds lighter, and at least an inch thinner, so YES the M17x IS TOO BIG. Unless its gonna sit on your desktop, (and in that case, why not just get a desktop with a 26" lcd?) I suggest you DO keep/buy your M15x, cuz in the end, You'll get one powerhouse machine, with slightly less graphical capabilities, for a much more affordable, and portable machine. So to all those trading in their M15x's for M17x-R2, mark my words, at the end of it all, you'll ask yourself, Was it all worth it? Was returning my M15x, and waiting all that time and spending all that extra cash to get a M17x-R2 really worth it? for a couple more FPS while playing crysis? Who the hell even plays crysis anymore? There's newer, better games that are out and will continue to come out, demanding alot less that the Resource Starved game of 2007. Oh right i forgot, all those REALLY cool guys getting hard-ons over a high 3d mark 06 score, still living in the basement of their parents house at the age of 40. CLosest they've gotten to a pu.s.s.y was when they had to scare away the returning neighbourhood stray tabby from their front porch.
in conclusion to my never ending-latenight-drunken-rant:
M15x's are the S.h-i.t, and don't let these M17x-R2 guys put ya down, because they spent easily 1000$ more for a slightly better machine, not at all worth it for the average non-super-geek user. Hows that for some M15x Support. All you traitors should get your a.s.se.s out of this thread, and into the M17x-R2 thread, where you belong. You don't see M15x owners in the M17x-r2 thread now do u?
-
So is Dell ever going to let us order a 260M with one of the dual core procs? right now you can still only get it if you choose one of the quads.
-
So yeah, the M15x is chill. -

I'm new around here but i signed up to say a HUGE thanks to this thread.
Without this thread i wouldn't have known that my M15x suffers from throttling (Which doesn't happen with the throttle stop app, thank god.)
I also found out that my supposed dual channel memory is only single channel according to the bios.
Either way, I'm enjoying my M15x and have no regrets.
I just gotta call dell so they can replace the ram cause i didn't spend this much for just single channel memory =x -

@ non_existant
Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't applied either yet, and Joker may wish to comment, but my understanding is that the throttling issue is only a problem when the system's really stressed. With Far Cry 2, it doesn't matter if I'm playing with the lowest resolution with all settings low, it's still slow as molasses going up a wintry hill. -
Have you tried any others games to see if you have issues? -

-
Did the A03 BIOS update fix the USB issues yet? I'm getting sick of not being able to reliably update my iphone quickly
-
Chiming in - I love my M15x as well and have not regretted the decision to go with this over the M17x- refresh and all.
If i need second hard drive, it is simple to use an external USB (or an external eSATA if speed is needed).
My only wish is that it came with the option for a single GTX280M in addition to 260 and 240....I'm not sure I understand why not. If it's a marketing decision, I can't say I agree -
also its nice to see people with good experience with the M15x. its a sweet lappy!!!! -
So the tech guy came and fixed my screen and now my laptop wont charge? anynody have info on what i could do to fix this maybe?
-
-
it had been charging all day up until he got here and then i took it off the charger and ever since he left it hasnt charged. and the battery was at 100% currently at 43%
-
-
yea still didnt work, called the guy back and he said some systems dont show that its charging until its dropped low but i always have mine plugged in and it always shows the charge symbol. but guess we will see what happens in a bout 30 min.

@ InappropriateName_3
It's pretty class, and I'm certainly in the camp that doesn't want anything bigger (I lug mine to work every day). I'm using 195.62, and it was a problem with the original drivers too. -
Also just ran a diagnostic and it says that my keybord isnt detected even tho i can use it once windows is logged in, this is ty.
