yeah don't rely on the diagnostic too much if it works it should be fine, also how did the battery charging turn out, did it work?

 

I dont mean to sound like a broken record here but make sure your in high performance, make sure stealth is off, make sure your plugged in. You should be getting 60fps in FC2. What other games do you play? post some benches instead of just saying its slow so we can get a feel of whats going on. Run FRAPS.

 

Hey guys, sorry to butt in with a random question. But anyone have any idea whether the new M15x would fit into an anlienware orion backpack at all? I am looking to use one for carrying around an M15x and uni books.

yeah i think he solved it already, it was a driver issue. he updated and all was fine.

 

By it's all sweet I meant it's generally a fine machine. However, FC2 still a problem. Point taken uroboros, will run fraps, but believe me when I say it looks like it's <10fps even on low settings etc. It's off stealth mode, haven't played round with overclocking, have updated FC2.

Will post again with FRAPS results.

 

No the charging didnt work....battery is now dead and they are coming out by monday hopefully to replace the motherboard....now i just wanna take this apart and see whats in it just for the hell of it. Is there a guide to take it apart on here?

PS: You can fit TWO M15x into the orion backpack.

 

Yup. It definitely will. I've got an AP M15x and the Orion Backpack. Work great togther.

Argh looks like it was the driver. Fired up FC2 and it's a different beast now. 30fps with all high settings on 1600x900.

@Uroboros: what settings are you getting 60fps on FC2 with? Or have you got better hardware (I'm i7 720m, 260m, 4GB RAM)

Here is my M15x playing some music, fraps and modern warfare 2 cranked, cept 2x AA instead of 4x... 70-90 FPS, havent overclocked or anything.

A03 Bios from factory installed... not sure if its cured the throttling, but I dont need it any faster so im not too worried about it, lol.

 

Can't you just get a $20 hdmi converter? Are there major issues with this approach?

 

I have a question for guys and gals out there,
i have just recieved my m15x on the 22nd this month all seems fine, but i have had no reciept from dell for the purchase of machine, does this follow on after laptop has arrived or does one not now get a reciept any more.

i noticed earlier on in this thread people questioning the revision of board, well i ordered my lappy on the 5th of jan, it has come with revision 11 and bios A03, any other info ask and i will advise if i can...

 

actually it come with an hdmi adapter for free, and i haven't had any issues with it, but i only tried this like 2-3 times.

i don't get sound out of my DP port, tried fiddling with it and what not, also i think i got a hinky graphics card, i flashed it like jokers instructions said to and if i go to high over stock clocks my display driver fails till i bsod, and my full refund just got approved sending it out monday. by the time the get it and what not the 5870's will be out for the M17x. i still need to back up all my stuff though, not sure which program to use

anyone know if i backup using windows and make a recovery backup will that save all my installs and stuff?

ok so I've been searching the net for diffrent prices on the M15x, M17x-r2 and such, and i managed to find a Gold Member (trusted) wholeseller from china who is selling M15x, i7 720 qm M15x, 4gb, 900p, 320gb hdd, gtx 260m, ships in original Alienware box with accesories, for $350 per unit, minimum order 4 units. Now, My heart stopped when i saw this. Think i should trust this supposedly "trusted" wholesaller and give it a shot? What do you guys think? ( You can imagine the profits Dell is racking in)

 

you can use acronics to do the image backup. but i suggest doing a clean install of all your programs, just back up your data.

 

i could buy 5 systems, for the price i just paid my M15x that i haven't received yet.

 

i wouldn't trust places like this, i saw similar offering for the M15x and M17x. but hey if you want to gave it a try, just sounds to good to be true for me.

 

usually i go by the saying " if it's too good to be true, it is." but they accept paypal so i'm covered, are willing to send me a sample unit, and keep insisting they DO NOT sell fakes. So just letting you guys know, I might just be in th ebusiness for selling DIscount ALienware Lappys .

well, it is most likely fake, but there is the odd chance that whatever factory in china is building those, is making just a bit more than supposed to which then get sold.

But then again, they would probably sell them at a higher rate.

 

Unfortunately I didn't get an adaptor, and it wasn't on the list of stuff I was meant to be getting (but then neither was the cap and mousepad, which I did get). This is of course pretty bizarre, as I've confirmed with Dell that one needs an adaptor to get their OptX monitors working the M15x, as opposed to working together out of the boxes.

So was your adaptor DP->HDMI?

 

yeah it was display port to hdmi, call them i'm sure they will send one for free. I actually have 2 at the moment, they sent one with my replacement so i just kept it along with extra mouse pad and extra cap.

 

yes you guys are right, i have HIGH DOUBTS that they are legit but i found it through a global trade website (not ebay) where they have ranks for suppliers around the world (similar to ebay's feedback system) and this supplier in china is a gold member (similar to an ebay Powerseller) with great feedback. Either they took extensive measures to arrange this with false feedback from 1000's of "fake" costumers (they do hold 1/3 of the world pop afer all, so i dont think that would be a problem for them lol) or they're actually legit.

I guess theres only one real way to find out. I was hoping though, that someone would have some knowledge as to how cheap the production costs of these units actually are? because if they're seling for 350 which seems rediculously low, it must be costing them even less for them to make profit. is this even possible? Anybody have experience with this? or perhaps cost price info for other laptops? Because these guys are pushing macbook pros, dell xps, adamo, hp envys, even asus and clevo's. If these prices are indeed real, fcuk my day job loll

 

If its legit, I assume it works the same way as selling expensive cloths (e.g. prada) in countries where they are produced for 30 euros or so.

 

That image is misleading, since the units are aligned from the front line and not the back so it gives the perception the depth is equal.

Having had both up close and personal for comparison, the M15X is large for a 15" form factor notebook, but the M17X is large for a 17" form factor notebook too on the scale of the M15X IMHO.

They are both X-Large within their size factors.

You laugh, but i import alot of clothes, shoes and fashion apparel from china and occasionally taiwan and europe and pay extremely low prices for them and sell them for easily 10, sometimes 20 times the price. This is why i am so intrigued with this newly found supplier for laptops, so there is no need for smart-a s s comments. The only reason i am asking you guys for your CONTRUCTIVE take on the situation, is because my expertise ends at clothing when it comes to wholesale prices and suplpiers and am not familiar with the cost prices for such electronic hardware. I've also been told that electronics in china are indeed one of the items that are faked the most, and that is why i am not Blindly jumping into this deal and putting my hand into the "Pretty orange and red dancing light," .

 

You could give us the link, so we can check it out.. I dont think anyone else would buy in this thing anyway

Ok thanks everyone for your help i am officially "closing" the discussion on this wholesale alienware thing.

On a second note, pukalo what do you mean they are out of keyboards? and what voicemail did you receive from dell? and Since when do they return calls after the sale was completed?( they used to call me 2 times a day to finalize my order and after that never returned anything)

I hope they get their act together soon... and hey can anyone report getting their system AFTER the EDD? Has this ever happened? All i heard is that they would Overestimate to make it look like they had "fast" delivery.

 

Well I called dell up on thursday just wanting to know what stage my build is in, and the guy told they are out of stock on the m15x keyboards and said that they will update me on the 28th about the status on the keyboards. Then i got a call on Friday from some rude person who said the manufacturing department has no idea when they will receive more keyboards, and told me good luck on getting it anytime soon.
