As in, one VGA and the other in the DP port?
I'm just asking for clarification since i really don't know. I would test it out if i had a VGA monitor but no one at my house has used a desktop pc in a VERY long time so we don't have much use for them.

you can only use one or the other, but for duo screens, i really don't know, i haven't tried yet, and haven't seen anyone tried yet.

Hello,
I am thinking about the Alienware but I am unsure about the display. Should I take the normal one or the 1920x1080?
I think even with the 920 some games will not work.
Most of the time I play games like Age of Empires III or Civilization IV ... those should work at the native resolution.
But sometimes I like games like Crysis or Sims III. How about the interpolation of the screen?
Greetings,
Sascha -
I would say go with the 1600x900 screen.
The card works under less stress with that as the native resolution. Plus, you still have plenty of screen real estate.
Now, if you're like me and LOVE having a bunch of screen real estate just go for 1080p screen. Otherwise it's nice to have but not that big of a deal. -

Hi,
perhaps I should say I will use the Notebook 40% of the time for Internet, 10% with Adobe LightRoom (photo software) and the rest for gaming ... how good ist reading texts on a 1920 screen?
Greetings,
Sascha -
Most people say it's really small. Personally, i went from having a XPS m1530 with a 1280x800 screen and at first the text was REALLY small. I got used to it in a few days and i can't see myself using a smaller resolution
Also, do remember this is a 1080p resolution for a 15" screen... -
the 900p screen is really good, take my words.
Though if you work a lot with photos and all, maybe the 1080p is worth it, I couldn't say! -

Hi guys,
thanks for the reply. Right now I use a 15" screen with 1680x1050 and I have no problems with small fonts.
But I know, 1920 is even more.
My most concern is about that games which won't run in native resolution will not look good. How good does interpolation work?
I read some tests and from what I read, the 900p screen seems to be very good. Is the 1080 screen the same quality?
Thanks for your help, I am going to order this week. And sorry for my rusty English.
Greetings,
Sascha -
I have the 900p screen and my friend has a 1080p, we both had the same wallpaper and I could barely see a difference.
Yes both screen are really, really good. But 1080p on a 15" screen is overkill imo.. -

echoblack: How much did you pay for this SSD?

I was doing some searches for where AW ships from for the US and saw some talk about possible assembly etc in China or Florida. I noticed AW does some stuff in Miami, so I was curious where do the AW's ship from in the US? Like what does it say in the tracking info originating from? Thanks.

Tennessee is where they are shipping from.
Right... Correct me if I am wrong. But it was somewhere in the US I have been reading. So, I am guessing they are still being assembled in the USA. -
Then they are shipped to Miami where they pack it in a fancy box with all your accesories!
EDIT: Thanks for the link echoblack, though thats still too expensive for me
And I'm pretty sure it is not assembled in the US since I have a made in china sticker on my M15x -
-
Yeah, i'm about 20-30 minutes away from the Alieware warehouse in Miami...
I haven't been around there so i don't know if it still exists but before Dell bought them out i remember passing by there and wishing to work there one day. lol -
Hell ya, working a Alienware would be super cool
It would have been cool if you would have went there and tried to get a walk through. Like say if you were in school... Tell them you want to know a bit of how the industry works. What it is like to work of a company like that. I bet you could have gotten a little walk around. Engineers love to talk to people that actually want to hear them talk about their work. I know I do -
Where in Miami are you at? I'm in Aventura so I'm not far from Alienware HQ either. BTW the place still exists and according to an AW rep that I know here on the forums, AW is still an independent division that calls its own shots. Dell of course helps them with R&D, order processing, warranty etc but the core people are still there. We should see if they'd let us visit and do a tour and offer it as a write up for NBR. -
Dude you guys should. Would be cool to hear if they are trying to cut corners to make $ or if they are really into making the best computers. Also, what kind of work that they really do in the US and what has been outsourced. How seriously they take quality control. How seriously they take customer feed back.

I live about 10 minutes away from the FIU Campus by sweetwater.
I used to live in the Kendall area around 157 so i used to be pretty close to there. I'm not as close but still easy driving distance. As for the whole tour thing, It sounds like a dream come true. lol.
In all seriousness i would love to. I've always wanted to see the inside and see how everything works around there. -
I'd try to get the Phone #'s of the Head guy like the CEO or something. Maybe call or write a letter to him.... Maybe not. Maybe call the PR guy or the like head of employee management.
I figure you could go two ways. One, be all serous and stuff. Two just be like, We are interested in getting into the business and would like to see what the job and workplace is really like. -
Lol I was originally wondering if they shipped from Miami since I'm in Tampa so I could possibly choose cheaper shipping and still get it in a day or two. Someone said tennessee though? Oh this was for possible M11x purchase hehe
-
They're made overseas. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Also if I were to buy this again (which I would in a heartbeat) I would have put my money into the 820 cpu instead of the bluray and the 1080p screen. Figured Id watched some blu rays, but I havent gotten around to it yet. Games do look beautiful on it though so I'm not complaining.
-
Ya, I'm stoked to be getting the 1080p screen. I have 1680x1050 right now and it looks really good. I have one dead pixel and boy is that thing small, spec of dust. I don't think I'd even be able to see a dead pixel on the 1920x1080.
It's all about pixel density if you ask me. -
-
I'll just share my disapointment with you guys here since it probably won't be fixed but reading through dell's forums looks for any posts regarding the itunes syncing problem we've been experiencing. I found a long thread where people who once i7 dell 15 inch laptops have gotten hold of tech support and while dell knows of the issue they have no plans to correct it via a BIOS update. The complete lack of care really astounds me since its a known problem with a KNOWN solution. Just wish I could fix it myself.
-
Owe boy I sure hope there is no dead pixel. They only replace LCD panel if they have like 10 or more or some crap like that. I sure hope I get a flawless laptop... fingers crossed.
Hum well. I do have the accidentally damage warranty... I could just brake the screen then they would fix it
--------
Ya, I probably should have gotten the 260M... It is just that I don't plan on playing like any games on it so I wanted to save the money... $180 with the 10% student discount.
Also, .... I can pop in a what was it... 280M? Right?
-----------
Ya, that itunes syncing sucks I bet. You know ... On Linux we have lots of applications that sync to the Ipods and stuff. They are all OpenSource and probably have Windows binaries available. You could maybe just use a different application to sync your music. Then you would not feel obligated to spend so much on your music. Like you could buy a CD for 15$ with 20 track instead of paying $20 for the same 20 tracks + you get the nice backup CD with good quality.... I joke I just get my music for free.
Also, I'v done some BIOS hacking before. It's relatively simple. Editing code is not hard. It's writhing an application form the ground up that is hard. I'd like to know what is wrong. Like most of the stuff is mapped in Tables like the DSDT and stuff. In Linux you can have the Kernel use a custom table instead of the one in the BIOS. "Maybe" I doubt it but maybe there is a way to do that in Windows... ya 99% sure there is not though but worth Googleing. -
what I did was: restore, then when it ask you to set it up, uncheck all the things it will automaticly sync. Then when you hit apply/next, Itunes will lockup and after a few mins throw errors. Just disconnect it after about 20secs. Then iTunes will come back to life and then plug it in again, you should now be able to copy stuff on it, be sure to check "manage songs/videos manually". I actually had to try this several times untill it didnt ask me to set it up again.
let me know how it goes -
Yeah I tried your fix, seemed to work at first but fell through for me. I've also tried to sit through the lock up and its a toss up of whether it'll work or not. How I got it to sync tonight was turning off the computer, plugging in the phone then turning the computer back on, pressing the home button and finally opening iTunes. I'll post back on whether this method works again in the future, I've learned to uncheck "sync automaticly whenever this ipod is connected"

Hey Guys, has anyone had experience with PayPal/eBay disputes? I bought a SSD off eBay mid December but it never arrived and the seller is not responding. I've lodged a dispute and it's currently waiting 10 days for the seller to respond.
I got SSD on the brain now and already bought another off a seller in my own countryHope it arrives this week!

So I tried adding a display port to hdmi adapter with my laptop.. but the rep told me that they don't come with it and that I'd have to pay an extra $20 for one... forget that, I don't have any extra money to throw on the system I just paid $1600 for....
-
Just refreshed my page still in production. I want it now!
What is the best SSD for the money right now to put into the m15x? -
Smeggit: Good choice. The OCZ Vertex are the ones to get
I have a 30GB and getting a 60GB for the new M15x.
--------
If you ask me the Vertex is the one to get. But, really the only thing that you need to make sure you have is a SSD Controller with Cache or a Buffer, what ever they want to call it. The other big thing you need is TRIM -
You guys are way too rich O_O
-
Owe ya, that 256GB Vertex is WAY out of my price range. The 60GB is pushing it but I just can't ever go back to a mechanical HDD. Just the thought of my computer not being able to get data until a spinning disk and some mechanical reader sync up ... boy that is just a honorable way to store data. With a SSD you never have worries about the HDD braking and basically you have no latency at all.
