Hmm, given only a small minority (?10%) of their monitors currently selling actually connect natively with DP, it doesn't - to me - look like Dell is trying very hard to make DP a standard.

Hello folks. I just finished reading all 600+ posts on this forum. What a wealth of information. I ordered my M15x on 1/29 EDD 2/14. Looking so forward to this machine. In the mean time I have been reading everything I can about it, even the Manual. BTW, who said a 65 yr old great grandma isn't groovy.

Thanks for the link. It is a cool gadget. Having it up didn't seem to affect 3DMark 06 much, though it wasn't able to stay on top. However, I reran the Windows experience Index (installed new video driver - 195.81 beta (seems to work fine so far), and my CPU index dropped to 4.1. I turned off the Intel app, and it went back to 6.7.

BTW, my screen is 900x1600 (not 600 as in my previous post). I am very happy with it.

Virtually every other notebook company has put out a bios update that fixes the USB issues except Dell. I'm suprised Acer hasn't either.

Had to make my first tech support call today...spoke with this lady, Muriel, who actually did a great job. All my touch media controls stopped working out of nowhere, except for my eject key. In addition, my FN key shortcuts were not working.

She logged into my computer via remote desktop support and reinstalled my OSD drivers and intel chipset. My buttons worked immediately after that....but I still have no idea why they worked last night and today they randomly stopped working (weird).

Also, stealth mode does not work when the AC power is unplugged (isnt that what its for?). When I hit the button, an error comes up saying "STEALTH MODE NOT SUPPORT ON BATTERY." <---yes, written in improper grammar :D She told me that stealth mode will not work unless I have the AC adapter hooked into the laptop for 24 hours straight, without unplugging. Can anyone confirm this, or am I an isolated case?

I will wait 24 hours and see if that fixes the issue.

Stealth Mode only works on AC power...

it switches the Power intake to a lower Voltage for when your plugged in on an Airplane or want to leave your laptop plugged in over night and don't wanna suck loads of electricity...

Stealth mode doesn't work for any of us so don't worry. It's a nuissence because sometimes you'll press it and then wonder why your performance in game is so low. That's the first thing you should always check.

Also to the previous poster who said that their fans turn on full blast when starting the computer... mine does that too sometimes. A02 mostly resovled it however it still happens a third of the time. Sometimes they'll turn on and I'll have to restart right away to get them to behave.

Yea, its rediculous. I'm 100% sure I got the proper fix now, I re-installed my computer the other day and it worked right away. I'm gonna see if I can have the files ready in a few days and a write up.

I got another $100 off my order haha and it was shipped today!

I used the EPP discount initially and received a 2 day $100 coupon for any new orders but I forced the rep to apply it to my current order. He initially said no then offered me a $50 credit and I said no to that. He said there was nothing he could do and I would have to reorder it in order for it to be applied. I said does it make any f*ing sense for me to re order something that is going to be overnighted to my doorstep tomorrow and for you to rebuild a whole new system just over $100. He spoke to his supervisor and BAM total order price now $1680 shipped w/ free overnight upgrade. Total Order savings over $280 with overnight shipping. Actual Total cost would have been $1960+ + whatever overnight would have cost.

EPP Dell Employee Discount code good until tomorrow: 11R13$2CCD492M $100 of $999 or more
Dell EPP if you're a Dell Employee blank blank cough

    Goodluck

I tried talking to a rep today to use the $100 off as well.. my order just hit production today but they kept telling me i had to cancel it then reorder.. but if i did that then i wouldn't be able to reorder until my money gets back into my back account, the deal ends tomorrow = /

    dalkjdlakdjfaljfalskga

Anyone have anymore tips or a certain number I could call to get this? I'd really love to get $100 back off this thing.

Read my post. I told my rep to talk to his supervisor. I told him why go through so much trouble to build a whole new system it doesn't make any sense especially since mine is being overnighted as we speak (tomorrow before 3PM my doorstep) !!! :)

gahh customer care line closes at 7. Is there an EPP number or anything else I could call that would be open?

no matter who i call they all transfer me to that number even though i tell them they're closed. Outsourcing customer service is a stupid idea.

so none of them work or just not lighting? ok so i see you reinstalled your osd a few pages back. did this occur after a reboot? if so try going into alien fx and selecting a lighting theme. the alien fx is alittle buggy at times.

Lighting works fine...its the actual buttons that don't work. Plus the FN key shortcuts stopped working in unison with the media buttons. I reinstalled the OSD again and restarted, so now its working....but if the same trends continue, then it will stop working within hours.

Its def a software issue because as soon as I re D/L the osd, it works. I noticed it stopped working after I hit the volume button while in game...once during COD and again during Mass Effect. Im about to re-test my theory.

Wow mines in Barking too. I guess I was too naive in thinking that no one but me will be getting an M15x today. Unfortunately I will be at work all day today. Sad thing is like Barking is next door to me. Called them to allow me to pick up from their depot but the reply was a no no. Good luck with yours! LOL :D

About the ViewGuard.... I would not want a Privacy Filter. I like a wide viewing angle. I think I will get a "laptop anti-glare film" for it though. They are cheaper too.

    ------------

Well about the "Media controls not working". Well it sounds like you are the only one having the problem. That fact and that reinstalling the driver fixes it dose point to it bing a software problem. What BIOS version are you on? (DON'T flash it to A03... But I am sure you know that one...) Just be good to know. Make sure you have all the windows updates....

Also, even though reinstalling the driver works. It could still be a hardware problem. You could check this by waiting for it to stop working then. Boot into a Linux Live CD. Then open terminal and run... xev ...that utility will show you what the key-code is for any key you press. Then start hitting the Media Controls Keys and see if it is reporting it. If it doesn't then they keys are not working.

Probably just a "Windows" problem. Windows sucks. Don't blame it on the computer.

    Hello Guys !

First sry for my english I am french. I just ordered my M15x last night with these settings. Quad I7-720, 6 gig 1333 mhz, 128 gig Ssd and 240M. I want to use this machine for My work I am a It consultant and I will use this little power house to run some Vm's on this machine. Since being a ex gamer I had to make some choices because of cash. I know this machine will rock with a 260gtx but like I was saying this is mainly for virtualisation. I will use it too to Mix with my Midi controller. Does any of you guys have the same needs that I do and If yes do you agrre on my selection. Thanks again for the advice.

    :D

I don't use my M15x for the same purposes as you (I'm all about gaming) but your config looks very good for multitasking. 6gigs ram is good if you're going to be running multiple VM's and various other multi-tasks. CPU is obviously awesome and I envy your SSD. As you know the 240 is the only weaker part, but it should suit your purposes fine. Gratz on your order.
