hey guys I just looked at my ram, in my m15x and i have to diffrent brand sticks. 1- 4gb Hynix, and 1- 2 gb elipda. You would think they would use ram of the same brand and same timings for this price. you guys have the same?

 

ensure the osd is installed in your root directory: for some reason it likes to install on the browser directory when you download the file and that does not allow the OSD to work for all applications.

Both AW Command Center and the OSD remain a bit buggy with win7: it is a software/driver issue and not anything to do with any hardware as far as i can determine from reading the variety of posts -- it is an issue that has popped up on other systems besides the M15.

 

Stoked, got my SSD cranking It came with firmware 1.3, I updated to 1.5 which increased the write speed by 30mb/s! ATTO Benchmark says I now get 195mb/s write and 265mb/s read, WEI score is 7.3. Color me happy

 

My two RAM sticks are also different, one Elpida (2GB) and the other Hyundai (4GB). The timings between the two sticks is the same though according to System Information for Windows.

 

since the ram size is different it doesnt matter if its the same PCB since you wont be getting dual channel anyway. It only matters if you want to have your memory run in dual channel.

I am looking for the best backpack case for this little monster. I know alienware make one but it seems Big. Is it a bad impression I know this one can get a 17 inch laptop in it. Do you guys know one that would fit the 15 inch good. Keep in mind the portability plz.

I got a supervisor emailing me back and forth about adding on that $100 coupon or even letting me upgrade my system worth $100 since it hit production yesterday.

All they talk about is canceling it but I told them that I just met a buyer who got the coupon used without canceling. Gah.

 

OK i called and they were being dumb about it. I just cancelled my order for good.

Hopefully the funds will go back into my bank account soon so then i can go and reorder using these coupons, i'm going to try to save it to my cart now so maybe it'll be there when the money gets back in, at the same price.


I asked why send out coupons to people if they can't use them?
the manager said " we sent just you that coupon so you can use it to order a new system"
then i said " why would i order a new system 2 days after i just bought one from you!"

What people don't realize is the M15x is almost the same size, if not bigger than conventional 17inch laptops. Because of it aesthetics, unique shape and the amount of hardware packed in there, it ends up taking the footprint of most 17 inchers. Having said that, if you look into backpacks that fit a larger size, you'll find it fits like a glove most times.

I personally bought this backpack Wenger Bag @ Newegg, and love it. The laptop sleeve is a bit snug, you'll have to break it in, but it offers awesome protection at a good cost.

This was exactly why I cancelled my order for the 15 and ended up ordering the 17, because of the size difference. I don't care about the weight.

 

man congrats, your write speed is amazing. i'm surprise your wei is only 7.3 for it. i got 7.7 for mine and i only write about 110 and read 256.

 

did you get this sorted out yet, this morning i ran into the same issue. all i did to fix it was go into command center and reselect my theme and lights and fn keys worked again, command center is a little buggy sometimes.

 

Well, was originally going for the M17x but i use the laptop alot on the couch and in bed so decided to go for an M15x. Can't wait!!

Now I've changed the AlienFX just twice, and decided to change it again just now but I got this message...

command center is a little buggy, reboot to see if it happens again. if so it could be a bad install of command center, what directory is it install to right now. just try to reinstall command center again , if you still have this problem.

 

No issues with media controls since last night under heavy use...back to flawless level. Don't you hate it when you accidentally hit stealth mode and you wonder why your game is lagging to hell? Then after you realize what caused it, you feel like a .

Ive been messing with the alienware command center...I love it.

My favorite is all white except the media controls and the alien heads are red....looks so damn clean and sexy!

 

Oh this is REALLY minor, but next time someone downloads pictures from an SD card, play music in the background and see if your song skips like crazy.

 

just tried it and no problem at all, and i had photoshop and firefox and xpmode working in the background with no issue. could you download dpc latency checker to see if you get lag spikes.

Why is my GTX 260M only scoring 5.5 and 3GB of 1333 DDR3 ram only scoring 5.9 ??? 4GB DDR3 1333 on my MSI scores a 7.4 ???

yeah something is off graphics should be 6.8 for both make sure your not in stealth mode. also sometime wei is just buggy. try it again to see is anything changes.

I just ran the test...I don't really know what these #s mean, but the music was choppy as all can be.

test interval- 1000
current latency- 164
absolute- 500

 

wow that pretty good, huh don't know why you are getting the audio skipping. do you have that issue with other players. also are you testing it when you do the file transfer and audio playback.

 

Ran it again with winamp and it was even worse...here are the results:

Yes, testing it when I am doing audio playback with mp3s on my hard drive. The Latency checker is recommending I uninstall drivers, then reinstall them.

I guess I should uninstall my memory card reader, and reinstall? Any suggestions?

 

its still not bad enough to cause major audio skipping. the M17x r1 had lag spike pass 20k, still don't see why it would skip like that

 

Man if your going to do all that, it may be easier to do a fresh install of your os. is your audio skipping in regular playback with no file transfer in the background?

Why is my 6gb of ddr3 Ram @ 1333 only scores 7.1 then

 

don't worry about the wei scores so much, its not really a reliable way to test performance. also sometimes after installing a new driver it may cause the score to go lower.

 

Music/sound is perfect otherwise. I used driver robot and reinstalled the memory card drivers and im having the same issue. I am going to escalate this to alienware support....are they open right now?

I looked under my device manager and no such tab is present.

 

What kind of hard drive temps do you guys get with your M15x? Mine has peeked at 52C so far without heavy or prolonged gaming (just received the machine the other day, haven't had much time to mess around with much). Anything over 50C tends to make me anxious...

 

nm...im currently on the phone with support in Costa Rica....the tech seems to know what he is talking about and has identified this as an "isolated incident." If they can't fix the issue, they will want the laptop to replicate the issue in their labs, so they can fix future machines. I REALLY hope it doesn't get to that point.

that temp is right on, when gaming it should hover around 60 -65, don't worry it rated up to 100 degrees.

sorry i don't have that either. i did a clean install of the os the first day i recieved it, maybe i have to look on my old hard drive. also the link is for the older model area 51 m15x.

No problem at all. Using System Information for Windows currently. Haven't gotten around to downloading any other monitoring program yet.

 

50 degrees is a little high, but maybe find a different hdd temp monitor to make sure.

 

I just got off the phone with the alienware rep...

After an hour and 15 minutes of trying to do fixes, he wanted to put the new bios on my computer, and I pretty much got super frustrated, so he told me to request a new laptop from customer care tomorrow, even though he said its not a guarantee because they might want to repair this laptop first.

Any tips on getting a new laptop out of them? Should I be angry or very calm and civil?

Guys, this is an ISOLATED incident. other than these buzzkill issues I have been having, this lappie is BOMBTASTIC. I just want one that works 110%

 

well if you want, you can try to do a clean install of everything. but if you want to get a replacement, just tell them you do not want a laptop that is defective from the start, you are still within the return period and you have the right to return it and get a refund. between a refund or replacement I think they would replace it for you.

 

just thout i would stop in and say howdy to evyeorne just back from a 2 weeks in China
and i get home to my New M15x that dell sent me for replacment and this think just cant get right LOL
it comes with a cracked screan i still have to call them to get them to fix that and it wont shut off if i am in safe mode i can get it to shut of but if im in normal mode then if i hit shut down it shuts down then starts right back up and i cant figure it out

 

I'm jealous. I called the 1-800 # that was posted on this forum and mine is in the boxing stage with a ship date of 2/11. Oh well, it's fun waiting on Santa to come.

 

Update your nvidia driver it should solve your problem. 195.62 i think is the newest
