Hey, thanks for the advise. I've kept emails but having them in a separate folder is a good idea. The sellers 10 days to respond runs out today so hopefully the ball starts rolling :)

Definitely a to do when you get your m15x (Flash at your own risk) the guide below worked perfectly for me.

This guide by 5150Joker has improved my gameplay immensely

Here is what his guide says to do
This is the order I did it in

    Step 1
How to make bootable USB to flash the AW M15x Video Bios

    1. Download the HP USB Key Utility: http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197

    2. Download the Windows 98 system files: http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=196

    3. Download the bios .rom files (I've included the original oldbios.rom file and modified newbios.rom files) + nvflash files here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/16jxlt

    4. Install the HP USB Key Utility

    5. Launch the HP USB Key Utility and do the following:
    - Insert your USB thumb drive.
    - Select File system as "FAT32"
    - Select Format Option as "Create a DOS bootable Disk..."
    - Checkmark the box that says, "Quick Format"
    - Locate the directory you extracted the Win98 files.
    - Format the USB key using the the Win98 files.

    6. Copy all the files from step #3 to the USB key
    - nvflash.exe
    - newbios.rom
    - oldbios.rom
    -etc.

    7. Set your M15x bios to boot from USB Storage Device.

    8. Attach the USB key to the system, reboot and it will load a dos prompt.

    9. At the dos prompt you will need to type: nvflash -4 -5 -6 –A –y newbios.rom and when it asks if you want to flash the file, press ‘Y’.

    10. You are done! If everything went well, you will now have 1v for your 2nd level 3D clocks which should enable you to overclock your GPU using RivaTuner. Be sure you do not use NST to overclock, only RivaTuner will do the job if you are applying the throttle fix.

    Step 2
    CPU Throttling Fix:

I've been working with UncleWebb in testing for an easy to use solution for the CPU throttling portion of the throttling fix. Well thanks to his mad programming skills, we now have the latest release of ThrottleStop which will solve the CPU throttling problem! The instructions are simple, download the program, turn it on, checkmark both the chipset and clock modulation boxes and set them to 100%. You must enable ThrottleStop each time you want to play a game that pushes the CPU to ensure maximum gaming performance and CPU utilization. My own testing has shown that with ThrottleStop, CPU performance gains are as high as 50%! If you find ThrottleStop useful for your day to day use, please consider donating via PayPal to UncleWebb for all his efforts. He did all this free for the community so a small donation is the least we can do. If you are interested in donating, please PM me for information.

    Step 3
To fix the GPU throttling, use RivaTuner:

    1. Download RivaTuner 2.24c

    2. Next, go to RivaTuner\Overclocking\Global, expand it and for "MaxClockLimit" set it to 300 and "DisableClockTest" to 1. Next under Rivatuner\NVIDIA\Overclocking set "EnablePerfLevelForcing" to 1.

    3. Finally, go to the Main tab, under the driver settings, click the half arrow next to "customize", click on "system settings", go to the overclocking tab, enable driver level overclocking, set it to performance 3D and set your default GPU clocks. Towards the bottom, you will see, "force constant performance level", set that to performance 3D as well and click apply.

Since everyone is loving their new M15x and have enough time to play with it, I'm going to throw out this question. I am assuming no one is using the crappy rough touchpad surface to game (seriously dell! what were you thinking). It sometimes even gets annoying to casually surf.

I'm going away on a research trip and would need a handy mouse for quick number crunching in SPSS and SAS. I would be frequently gaming as well (Bioshock2, TF2, HL2, DAO, etc). What mice have you people been using with your rig? I don't have any preference b/w wired vs wireless but my logitech wave pro desktop combo (with MX revolution mouse) has spoiled me.

    Any pointers?

with gaming a high dpi wired mouse is the way to go. most people go with either logitech or razer. right now i have a razer mamba and a razer orichi but i have heard very good things about the logitech g9x also. if you get the $50 gift card from dell, the alienware tactX mouse is good also, plus it can change colors with your laptop.

I have a G5 Logitech and i absolutely love this thing.

Plus it's blue and black matches with my Alienfx color scheme ^_^

I just recently bought a Razor Salmosa to use as a backup mouse for whenever my G5 goes out (i travel a lot so i tend to go through mice every couple of years and this one is probably on it's second year now) so i'll let you know how that feels in comparison.

As for games, my steam name is Also Archnemesis. I'm on the Alienware group so just hit me up on there if you want to game.

Although lately the only thing i've been playing is the AVP demo... I'm loving that thing so far.

I used a Logitech VX Nano for a while and it was extremely good if you also want portable. Currently using a Logitech MX Performance and love it, I like having a full sized mouse with a micro usb receiver.

Could you please specify what you mean by "improved my gameplay immensely"? E.g. was it a change in framerate or scores in 3dMark etc. Thanks.

also if getting a gaming mouse, do get a gaming mouse pad too. would be a waste of money if you just buy a mouse and get a crappy pad anyways. i'm using a razer destructor, but any razer pad is good.

Just took a little break out of my heavy gaming schedule to share that pearl of wisdom.

    Now... Back to the frontline!

That's good to know. I am thinking about switching to the M15x too - but I want a 4870 or 5870 GPU. I like the 5 lb weight savings.

Rather than a M17x and M11x, the M15x seems like a good compromise.

    @InappropriateName_3:
    Print screen?
And it would be nice to have him benchmark, so we can see how well the M15x perform with an i3, I'm kind of curious :3

Yeah I know, but I mean, your graphic card could have 12gb of ram, with a slower clock speed, others would do better... But the 240M is a good graphic card anyway, kinda wondering now why did I go with the 260 :p
But whatever, I just saw that lai tsz's benchmark, how come I have a lower cpu score >.>
And just saying unforgiven, you can easily post a screenshot by pasting it in paint, than save it as a jpeg, and upload it on a hosting website!

    Right ON :)

Ya, 240M has 1GB of dedicated memory. I am stoked. That makes a vary big difference for me because I am going to be running a lot of VM's. That means I'll have loads of video memory to dedicate to VM's.

I bet Dell has 512MB on the website to get more people to up grade to the 260M. 1GB of VRAM is way better then 512MB.

Mine should be delivered tomorrow! :)

Agreed the AW pad is very nice. I've got it for home while at work using the Kabuto, which although is a little small as a screen protector, sits nicely within the laptop and it's handy for cleaning the screen.

I'm debating between the Asus G72GX, and the M15X.

    They both have the 260m.

The asus has a core 2 duo at 2.9GHz.

Price is $1100 for the Asus, and $1900 for the M15X.

    Can anyone offer any insight?

well the M15x has the better build quality and better cooling and i7 to justify the big price difference. the rest is up to you to decide what you need and want from your laptop. but i7 rocks!!!!
