*OFFICIAL* "All Powerful" M15x Owners Lounge, *Part 3*

So I nuked Windows last night and dropped Win 7 Ultimate (Have a technet account...10 licenses of everything. )

One thing that I lost and am kinda regretting is the on screen display that showed when you muted something, increased the volume, etc. It no longer does that and obviously it was some sort of addon that isn've on the resource DVD or support.dell.com's drivers.

Other then that I'm almost done building my image. Just finishing up a few more games and will dump the thing out to a 40GB partition with Norton Ghost.

 

I did not receive email for shipping yet but order status page says shipping, if all go well i will have my hand on it by tomorrow. have to install ssd in it too. hopefully no issues with it, fingers crossed.

 

I wonder if you use the Dell Audio Driver you can get that back?

I just looked at the drivers home page.. did you install the OSD Application ??

as of today i have returned both of the M15x's that were here and have ordered an onyx adamo desire. i didn't need the powerhouse i just wanted it because it was the newest and baddest, unfortunately i couldn't get one that was right. ill try super sexy and see how i like it.

oh well, i did get a free dell 370 BT module and was told i could keep the razer barracuda headset that came in. too bad the mouse hadn't already shipped

Any Samsung drive actually labeled Samsung is an OEM drive. Getting the Samsung drives labeled by Corsair or OCZ is different.

 

Just got my M15x, and love it. A little larger than expected but its one of the most beautiful slabs of computer I have played with. Love changing the keyboard colors, trying to create a decent fire rhythm. Love the attention I get when I take it out, and love how it feels like a tank.

Kind of dislike the bulk though, and as a very common complaint the touchpad is rough. If I had to give it any description its like an unshaven face. Also upset that I didn't know that it came with an Displayport to HDMI cable, instead of buying one. Also a little flex by the -> key.

 

It didn't use to come with a converter cable. I noticed my new system had one last night too, a nice surprise but now I've got an adapter I need to RMA.

The D800 is HUGE and heavy especially after packing everything needed in the laptop bag. It’s a lot of weight to carry on your shoulder but the screen size is worth it! The D800 starts at 7.0lbs, and is 1.5" thick. It's 1.5"(h) x 14.2"(w) x 10.9"(d).


This is what I have been using for 5 years

I do not think the M15x will be too much differant I have the Wuxga screen and I will acually be loosing resolution from 1920X1200 to 1920X1080

But overall performance will be HUGE

You should have looked at your email invoice when you purchased the M15x! It clearly states an adapter cable is included.

But yes, the M15x is definitely a work of art. I'll be on the look out for the next Bing Cashback deal or perhaps next year for a 5800 series.

 

Panda, I did check out the email and yeah it said that it was included, but at the same time as Joker said it didn't before and that was what I was basing my purchase on. It was a very pleasant surprise though.

Also the heat dissipation is cool, a lot cooler than I was thinking for a desktop replacement. Haven't played any games yet but I am really liking Windows 7 on this, reminds me of KDE 4.

 

ok just found out my M15x came today via Fed Ex
and im in NYC right now the system is in Detroit so now i have to wait till i get home on my Birthday next week to open it what a sucky job i had to leave town the day my system came lol

 

Looks like Fedex failed again was suppose to be here today but now they tell me tomorrow. Last time I order from dell Fedex said nobody answered the door the funny thing was I was working on the house that day and the garage and other doors was open.

 

UPS did the same thing to me when i was waiting for my asus g51, i got pissed after they did that the 2nd time i told them to shove it up their (return it back to the sender) and now I'm here waiting for my new m15x

Well I see a release date of 10/28. Any issues since would not have been addressed. Even though we see it today they have QC before they drop it to the public

 

Well I will probably have it on mine when I get it Saturday.

 

once i get my system are there any updates i should go and download of the dell / alienaware website
or should i have evyeirng already with the system being new

 

Update video drivers, remove touchpad drivers, Windows Update your system, customize your lighting, run some benchmarks.

 

ok so i remove the touch pad drives but once i do that what do i do to get the touch pad to work is there a updated driver for it ?
or do i just use my mouse and forget the touch pad
also what programs do i use to do a bench test is there one built into the system already or will it come iwth something or is there somthing i can use download for free
and do i get the video drivers from dells website or do i have to go to nvidea to get them

also is there a program on the computer so i can see how hot and what temps eyvehrign is running at and what speed things are running at or do i have ot download or buy a program to do that

do our systems have only 1 system fan or are there more then one fan is there a fan for the GPU and the SPU or just the one fan for the entire system ?

i had wonderign because my M1530 xps has one fan and a heat sinck that runs aroudn the entire board so was not sure aatleast it jsut runs over half the baord i think so was not sure how the alienware was set up

 

yeah a sticky would be cool then i woudlnt jhave to ask another question like what are the max temps i should watch out for if i see the cpu or gpu running at what temp shoul di worry and other things also would be cool to know

how can you do that, i would be ripping my box apart, can't wait to get my hand on mine. i would turn it on within 5 mins of receiving it.

 

ok so burnt the iso as directed -- but not without issues ad Nero didn't want to play in win7 and the default win7 burner didn't do an iso image, so I installed a freebie burner InfraRecorder that worked great -- re-started as intructed, new Bios installed and then the EC flash hung -- got a message asking if I wanted "to flash the EC 'Y' / 'N' R:/" but when I typed Y it came back "unrecognized command/directory" --- good old command line DOS.
Anyways BIOS is now A02 as desired but EC is still 0.92 and not the 0.96 the EC flash should give.
Any suggestions?
BTW I do not rule out operator error but the burn did seem to be good...and I did repeat the install

 

lookingover the manual and all im really happy to see how evyehrign is servicable on the M15x compared to my M1530 xps how evyeirng is like built in and you ahve to replace it all to get to one part lol
so im happy to see how htis is way more servicable

 

easy i had to leave town erly thismornig am in NYC right now last minute trip
my system was deliver to the house in MI today so i wont get it till next week when i am home wich sucks but the day i get home is my B_day so it will be a great birthday presint to self lol

 

Biggest reason I went with the M15x.

 

are the speakers on our systems really good or would anyone recoment replace the speakers with somethign a little better ?

 

Use alcohol 120 or some other program to burn the iso to a cd. It should upgrade automatically and the EC should change with it. If it didn't for you, then you had a bad iso and/or burned copy, you should try agan. Here's what mine looks like (Nero worked fine for me in Win 7):




Edit: The memory bank reported 4 gigs after I rebooted. Dunno why it said 2048 that time.

 

Huh... I had no problems burning an ISO to flash my Intel G2 to the latest firmware with the built-in Windows 7 Iso Burner.

 

thanks for the quick reply guys: seems I was not the only one to have this problem and in another thread someone posted a DOS command to manually activate the flash.

 

nero burnt mine in win7 and updated bios to A02 and EC to 0.96 i ran wei again and my proccessor and memory now show an increase from 7.0 to 7.1 and 7.2 to 7.3
