My WEI memory speed also increased to 7.3 from 7.2. Harddisk also increased to 7.2 from 7.1

Strangely enough iTunes found that my computer was no longer authorised to play content bought. Probably because that is linked to Bios and some checksum it made to lock the downloaded content to the computer.
I wasted one activation to reactivate it. :(
so it would be wise in my opinion to de-autorise the M15x, flash and then autorise again.

I synced 3 times with my iPhone and had no problems, with the "old" Bios A01 synchronisation failed a lot of times finding a "new" iPhone.

So what did the new A02 bios do ? I assume it didn't fix the throttling issue did it? anyone notice any system noise like fan noise louder, quieter? things cooler or hotter? What's paramount to me besides system performance is noise... I can not live with a loud computer. Sometimes in order to cool the system Dell would push out bios to crank up the fan....Just want to make sure this is not one such update before i jump on board.

    TIA

    hi guys
received my missing bluetooth card yesterday, was a little scared to take my toy apart, BUT it´s totally easy, took me 15min and a screwdriver to get it done, the build quality is awesome, rock solid and aligned, so now i know, why it´s that expensive...quality :)

compared to my previous machines, where the parts were tiny and fragile, this thing is a monster :D

@roxy: i dont know if you fixed your bluetooth card already, but you dont need a tech to come over, get a screwdriver, follow the service manual, install the driver and you´re done and it works :)

I still use 186.47 the stock drivers that came with the M15x.
I had some trouble running newer versions with Dragon Age.
Probably best to wait for a Dell update.

    1) Thanks for the reply! really appreciate it, my computer is fantastic, but has the shut down then auto restart issue, not bad just thought it was haunted.

    2) Arrandale CPU? wow....what a pleasant surprise, this is the new 32nm core cpu that has integrated graphic right? I imagine this will cause m15x to run even cooler and longer battery life.

    3) According to Dell...A02 support EXTENDED VGA CARD...anyone know what that is...?

tried the nVidia 195 both beta and wqhl versions and then reverted to the 186.82 which a number of posters had recommended -- seems better but no benchtests as proof -- just fewer small issues.

Well I am now an official member of the M15x owners group. So far so good no high pitched sounds no grinding when I turned it over. Afterlooking at my Bios looks like I need to up that but I still have to get a full backup and reimage this beast.

Good luck to all will be on and off for the rest of the day.

It's not necessary with an Alienware system since the bloat is minimal. The most anyone should do is just delete the restore partition if they want extra space. Otherwise its a completely unnecessary practice.

I got Home Premium when I bought it. For most persons it is perfect.

I want Ultimate for use in my domain. I could have used Professional.
I kinda miss some of the pretty stuff like the wall paper and load screens but I backed up and will reapply them after I find them all :)

I have everything working except the Fusion plugin. I may have messed up the install order.

Yea and to reiterate what Joker says little to no shovel ware.

for those that have reformated and want all the bling back I have made a Zip file with instructions and images Enjoy.

Did that joker and the rep told me the same thing, to call back during support hours. Now when I called today I was told by the automated message that they were not open on the weekends, then it hung up on me. But the guy who barely spike a lick of English I just spoke to said they were. Huh....

Brock, I feel your pain. I went through three customer service reps a week ago, one who confused my order with a previous order, another who just answered to make sure I was in the correct support qeue and a third who told me that the representative's wouldn't be open till 10 am central time, and it was 9:50 am central time. He hung up on me instead of transferring me where I would have rather waited that ten minutes knowing that I would be in the right queue rather than finding it for another hour.

Hey guys..I have a question about fan noise..

This is my the first time that I heard this noise, it's a very loud turbine, semi grinding noise during game play, it suppressed game play sound even. However the best I could do was to record it right after I shut down the game and mute the noise and uploaded it on youtube. Whatever you hear, just times it by 2 or 3 that's the fan noise now. Click on this link and turn up your volume

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo4SXh5gDcs

My video card idles at 50c now, where it used to idle at 44 C, under the same condition I'm thinking some fan malfunctioned or bad bearing, appreciate any feedback.

That is NOT normal... fan probably is the issue. Run Furmark & Intel Burn Test (separately) and see if it happens (it should blast each of the fans to full).

Could also be your Disc drive, if you have a disc in there.

There's no disc in the drive.. and no obstruction at the vent, everything is clean...actually no need for futuremark.....I ran the game with volume off.....within 2 mins the grinding noise started :(.....along with fan at full blast. :( :( :( I really have the worst luck with computers....... what do you suggest I do :( I received this laptop Monday the 7th...

Verify which fan is defective by running Furmark & Intel Burn Test separately, and then call up Dell and get them to replace the fan (and see if you they'll give you any concessions for your trouble while you're at it). If it's a fan, it shouldn't be a big deal or pose any other problems to your system.

Burn Test maxes your CPU while it does nothing to your GPU.

    Basically vice-versa for Furmark.

Remember you have two separate fans and heatsinks that are thermally independent from each other. I would also take off the backplate and you'll probably be able to pinpoint the grind to the specific fan that way as well.

if you followed his instructions you should have never even talked to a rep. simply punched in your order number and it will tell you which stage your order is in. the phone number is more accurate as it will tell you the specific part of the process the order is in and not just "in production" like the online status will.

if it makes you feel better my adamo has been stuck in pre-production for 4 days now :D

Ha! I must've hit a wrong button somewhere cause I tried it again and got the automated message to tell me I was in the boxing stage. YAY! Buuuuuut....it also says it won't ship unti Dec. 22nd!? How does it take 10 days to finish boxing and ship?! Not to mention I have no clue how long it has been in the boxing stage. Is that really even remotely acurate?!

Talked to Alienware tech support.....it's my 1 week old M15x video card fan out, they are going to overnight the part and send a tech out to replace it.

    1) I wanted to talk to tech support make sure its not me thats dreaming up stuff, he saw the video and heard the noise, he concur its the gpu fan.

    2) Now that I got tech support to say this machine has defect, I'm thinking whether to keep it and have them replace and get some goodies or return it since its a brand new machine.

    Thoughts?

The system will be top notch once the fan is fixed. Its really easy to change the fan, so the tech assistant doesnt have much room to up things. If you dont have a dead pixel, keep the system + the goodies.

besides, a new system will take probably another 2-3 weeks and you dont know if that comes in perfect condition either
