Hi vzxyz,
I too had the flickering Alien Head (Zone 6 in CC) after the upgrade. However, I did some testing and made the following discoveries.
1. It is most definetly a software issue, as the AlienFXTest program does not produce the flickering when used.
2. When I used the "default" settings after the installation of CC, the flickering occurs.
3. If I create a brand new theme, and just save it (this prodcuces a theme that is consistant with how my M15x was shipped), there is no flicker.
So, the solution for me, is to create themes from scratch, not to keep saving as for new ones.
Good luck

Anyone notice that the orion backpack is no longer available for purchase on alienware.com ? Wonder if they are coming up with a new design. I'm looking to buy a nice laptop backpack for my beast.

For optimization check out the thread below. The throttling is very rarely an issue in real world situations but if you want to be sure you're running full pace then check this out:

Alrighty... I just sold off my old gaming rig (AMD X2 3800) which was verrrry slow compared to my new M15x. No regrets there but I do miss the massive storage capacity of my desktop. I'm planning to buy Alienware Aurora sometime later this year (when some discounts show up) but in the meanwhile I'm in the market for an external drive. The paltry 250 GB on my M15x just does not cut it.
I was thinking of getting an eSata drive for storing & accessing my huge music library directly from the drive and maybe installing a couple of games directly on it. Theoretically, since it is just an extension of SATA interface, it should work just as well as an internal drive but with a hot-swap option. What do you guys think? Has anyone tried this before?
Unfortunately there are no portable eSata HDD's available. Almost all are 3.5 inch drives. I'm not sure whether eSata interface is self-powered or needs an external power source. -
why not get a FreeAgentToGo:
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/external/freeagent/freeagent_go/
lots of capacity, uses the usb port including the powered one on the M15, no external power source needed
works great -
Thanks for the info. I already have a 1st gen freeagent desktop drive. My only problem with these external USB drives is that they are good for storage/transfer but no more. I want an eSata drive so that I can practically use it as an internal drive - for e.g. Installing a game directly on the external drive (you can imagine the game load times over a USB connection)

Hello again,
in the order status is still the 18th of February as the delivery date ... but it is still in "Production" ... So I calld Dell and in their system the delivery date was internal set to 15th of March ...
I told them that in that I want to cancel ... but she told me it is not possible because it is in "Production" so I have to wait until it comes and then I can return it ... and wait again for a refund.
Very poor service!!!
Greetings,

Hi all, has anyone tried FSX (Flight Sim X) on their M15x??
How well does it perform, and does it need the i7, or would the i5 be able to easily handle it? and the 240 vs 260 gpu??
Also, what do you guys/gals use for flight sims in terms of joysticks and game pads? I love the flight sims, but I also mostly use my laptop while relaxing on the couch with the laptop on my lap. I've long searched for a 'mini' joystick (remember when that was all you could get, circa Apple IIE??), but can't find one. Not sure about using a gamepad for a flight sim...
Thanks! -
I got told the game BS you are getting, and i kept talking to supervisors untill i got someone who could do it... Your going to have to explain your situation alot, and tell alot of different people the same BS so have all your info ready..
Threaten to cancel the payment on your Credit/Debit Card... and tell them your going to go to HP or Gateway or something, and just keep asking for people's bosses.. ALSO another thing, is write down everyone's name you talk to and get there #, or something so u always can get back to them or tell the boss who u have been dealing with..
It took me 2 hours on the phone, and i talked to 20+ people but i got mine canceled... So you can do it! -

yeah i got it to work already, but it was a real pain. for some reason i had to enable the light on the mouse before it could sync. i don't even use it for gaming, i just just it for work when i'm on the go and the color matches my black M15x perfectly. btw i have the MX too, but i'm using that on one of my desktops. and yeah it a great mouse. and thanks for the replies

Hey all,
Before I begin, I must admit that I've spent a ridiculous amount of time reading through all of these posts. I'm currently deployed in Iraq and I leave in about 3 weeks (after a 6 month deployment), so at this point I am just trying to find ways to occupy my days until I get the heck out of here.
The good news; I recently ordered the M15X and have had it for a couple of weeks now. I opted for:
i7 920xm
1 GB Nvidia Geforce GTX 260M
8GB DDR3 1333MHz
1920x1080
320GB 7200rpm HDD.
This is the first NICE computer I've purchased, and I must say I am thoroughly impressed with the craftsmanship and quality of this rig.
I haven't noticed any throttling issues (which seems to be a rampant issue), albeit, I don't have private internet access so I can't download games and let the real magic happen. I'm stuck playing DragonAge (which looks fine, mind you).
I must have been one of the lucky people who received a laptop in excellent working condition. There are zero noticeable defects (dead pixels, overbearingly loud fans..etc.)
Now, for anyone who IS interested in purchasing one of these make sure to get a better hard drive than what I chose. I don't need a lot of space, I'm rather modest in that sense. I'm somewhat of a neat freak when it comes to my computer, so I tend to delete things that I rarely use.
HOWEVER, I have such nice hardware that I feel my hard drive really limits my potential. My WEI is a 5.9 (Thanks to my hard drive).
Processor: 7.4
Memory: 7.5
Graphics: 6.8
Gaming Graphics: 6.8
Primary hard disk: 5.9
So at this point, I have a question.. would upgrading to a SSD increase my performance THAT much? Also, is there a way I can use an external SSD and still get fast transfer rates? I've been out of the PC loop for a couple of years now and I am trying to get involved again.
To answer a question for anyone who is currently deployed with an APO address: You ARE able to buy Dell laptops even if it is shipped to an APO address. Also, you do NOT need to purchase the 3 year warranty with it. I spent countless hours on the phone trying to get this sorted out. They will try to tell you that you have to get it. The basic warranty is fine. The downside to this is that it can take up to a month and a half to receive your laptop once it is ordered. Enjoy no taxes and free shipping though.
I know I've been rambling, it's been a long 12 hour day and I'm ready to go to bed. If anyone has any answers to my questions, I'd appreciate it.
Cheers,
Adam -

yes a ssd would increase overall performance of your laptop. but gaming wise it wouldn't matter much. i would get a internal ssd because an external one would cost about the same price, and its pretty easy just to swap it out. if you don't need that much hdd space, a 128 gb ssd is relatively affordable. but get one that has trim support for better ssd life. btw your specs are awesome. i'm attaching a picture of my wei score, you and i almost have identical systems, but i have 4gb memory an a ssd. and also wei scores isn't the best thing to judge real performance. like 4gb vs 8gb ram only a 0.1 point difference in wei but in real world that huge. -
Hrmmm.... so I installed the new Command Centre which went perfectly fine. But the OSD won't won't anymore and i can't figure out why. I uninstalled the new one and put back the old version and OSD still won't work. I have no clue why it's not working

Wow the Asus G73JH-A2 Windows experience scores are the following:
7.0
7.5
7.3
7.3
5.9 no ssd
I really want to make this thing future proof but the GTX 260M keeps giving me a headache one day it works great one day it doesn't. I have to use throttle stop and riva tuner mods to get max performance and I have had to reset my bios twice because it stopped working correctly. I want to use DX11 I was thinking about getting rid of my M15x and getting the M17x but now I have the M11x on its way and am thinking about getting the Asus G73JH-A2 and having that as well as the M11x for the same price as a M17x and I get an automatic 3 year warranty through my credit card protection program as long as I use my centurion card. Its all up in the air. Any advice? -
