yeah the asus is looking pretty good, thinking of getting that myself, but waiting for someone to get it first to see if any issue arises. but if 5870 works for M15x then i just upgrade cpu.
so everything lights up but doesn't work????

-
Ya it's really wierd. Everything lights up and the touch buttons work (except the cc one) but no OSD/image comes up when i use the working touch buttons.
-
hey inapprops, any troubles with batterycare after the new CC? mine won't load up anymore...im thinking because Fusion now works again? and there's some conflict between the two programs..?
Not quite sure when it stopped working though, im just assuming its after i updated cc... anyways let me know if yours still works. i did the usual uninstall/reinstall/reboot crapola already...no luck -
Well I solved my problem, not really sure why this fixed it but it did /shrug.
I disabled AlienFusion again since it is the old version and voila the osd loads and the cc button works again. -

I got a call from Dell Tech support today saying that they reviewed my case and definitely think that the new CC updated somehow bricked my AlienFX BIOS. Although I'm not having any issues right now (after installing, reinstalling about 20 times), they are sending a replacement motherboard tomorrow. I'll be sticking to the old CC regardless.

Ok so I just installed the new Command Center again and my osd wouldn't work again. So I disabled the AlienFusion Service again (this time on the new CC) and restarted and OSD works perfectly again. So my guess is that the new CC still doesn't fix the AlienFusion compatibility issue.

Jstarnino said: ↑OK, so all is well now
. If your happy with your current CC then i don't think there is really a need to update it. However, the overall look of the newer one is nicer in my opinion. Also, Fusion is finally supported with Win7 which is nice (although clicking on your battery and managing the power settings does the exact same thing). The Facebright feature is also nice to login in darkness, say in the wee hours of the morning
.
That being said, These are the steps i recomend everyone to go through when installing the new Command Center , as it worked for meSo here it goes:
1. Download the new Command Center http://support.dell.com/support/down...g=en&TabIndex=
2. Uninstall your current version of CC in Control Panel.
3. Restart
4. Install the new Command Center.
5. Shutdown the system, and do a BIOS reset. (remove battery and hold power button down for 20 secs)
6. Turn on the system, check if everythings working. Some things probably won't.
For Example:
- Face login at startup says AlienSense is starting up but never does. Just login with your password for now.
- No AlienSense face login at all, just regular Windows 7 login screen. Again, just login with your password for now.
- Message about Quick Access Toolbar requiring a reboot to be fixed once windows has started up. Ignore this, it doesn't fix anything.
- Alien Fx lights do not turn off when Fn+f11 is pressed
- And so on...
If your not experiencing these problems, then your lucky and your done Installation . If not, don't worry this is "normal" and just ignore all these things for now and proceed to next step.
7. Go to your Dell Drivers folder, and start up the setup for the new CC again. This time, do a Repair. When it's done reboot.
And thats it! Everything SHOULD work the way its supposed to. You'll know this right away by the face-login screen ( No longer says it is starting up for an indefinite amount of time, and your Biometric data will be reset) and the Message about your Quick Access Toolbar malfunction disappearing, along with all the other problems being fixed!
Hope this helps! It did for me
EDIT: Props for InappropriateName_3 for providing most of these fixes individually alreadyI don't want to take all the credit here, i just summed it all up.

lol @ the MSI, what a grotesque design. As for people comparing the G73 to the M17x, are you nuts? The Asus is a budget laptop with no rgb led and a single card along with other extras cut out. It's also a plastic wonder unlike a sturdy AW build. The 5870s are at best 15-20% faster than a 4870 and that's largely confined to synthetic tests, in real world gaming the 5870s barely edge out a 280M. If you guys are impressed by those, Dell will be releasing the 5870s next month in the M17x and possibly M15x...sheesh.

Right now the new CC works same with the OSD. Only thing that doesn't work is AlienFusion, but like you said windows power options does the exact same thing. I Really just wanted the new AlienSense changes so that it will still work when i am gaming in the dark -

compared to an alienware, of course. -

I don't consider the asus g73 ugly, but it doesn't compare to an alienware. still a great value for the specs.

Bam, there it is. Powered eSATA 7,200rpm 500GB 2.5" drive. That is also ruggedized.
$160.
Yes, eSATA is just as fast as SATA.
Yes, unless you get a Bus Powered eSATA enclosure you will have to also use a USB port for power.

IMHO
I think you'd be happier to just get a 500GB HHD for $100 and switch it out with the 250 you have. -
As for the G73jh
I too think it is ugly. I've always liked my laptops to be a square black slab. I don't like undercut sides. I also have always hatted the look of laptops that have stuff sticking out the back.
So, if you ask me IMO I don't like the look of the G73jh at all. I also still think that it will not have nearly the cooling power of the Alienware's. -

Just wondering about the issues with the latest CC version: could there be a conflict with the throttle-stop etc fixes? Is there anyone who's had issues with the latest CC who has not applied the fixes?
Also, if anyone has a DisplayPort->HDMI adaptor that came with their M15x and they'd like to sell via eBay to me, please PM me. Thanks. -
Hey guys, thinking seriously about getting an M15x. Question - have any of you compared one with a GT 240m and one with a GTX260M?
I see the benchmark differences, but in terms of real gameplay at native resolution, in games like COD and FSX, will there really be that big a difference??
It is a pretty big step up in price, about $300 Can. I think...
Would the 240m still manage 30+ FPS in these games??
Also, were any of you on the fence about getting the M15x vs getting a Studio XPS? You can get a pretty darn well equiped XPS 16 for about $600 less than the M15x....
Thx! -

Well my friend, you are in luck, as you sound like me just a couple of months ago! I too had the same questions you now have, and i'll be glad to give you my take
Simply put, if you are going to ever play games on this laptop, just get the 260M. The 260M blows the 240M out of the water if you ask me, so don't let the 20unit diffrence in the name fool you as just a "slight" increase in performance. That being said, the 260M is already been out for quite some time and is getting old, so why settle for anything less? (Although it is more than capable of ripping through the latest games). If not, and it's strictly for business related tasks and you just want the processing power and superb aesthetics of this machine, get the 240M. But since you'll be playing Call of duty and unless you are talking about the original one, again, get the 260M. GPU's cannot be uprgaded with ease, and finding a mobile gpu for sale (such as the 260M) is a feat in itself. These things are friggin RARE and Expensive if bought seperately.
Now about just buying the XPS 16 which gives you roughly the same specs for 600$ cheaper, i must ask you again, Will you be gaming? Or if your like me, and rarely have time to game but just want your lappy to handle whatever you throw at it without worrying if the specs are up to par, just get the M15x.
While the XPS 16 is no doubt an impressive machine, these are the major diffrences:
The main reason i didn't buy the XPS 16, was because of its single fan cooling system. That means, in a laptop thinner than the M15x (reduced airflow) with the same hot i7 processor running underneath the hood you'll have only one fan cooling it down. Throw in gaming to the mix and this spells disaster to me. Now you might be thinking, so what, laptops can reach 100degrees without damaging the hardware. Yea? well after owning a hp dv6t that used to reach 70degrees surfing the net, i understood how annoying overheating is. Put this thing on your lap and block that single fan, now you're running into serious problems.
Second, you don't have the GPU power in that machine to play recent games at high settings. I'm not saying it can't, as i've seen youtube vids of it playing MW2 (not sure about the settings though), but it is certainly less capable than the M15x. Also, like i said before, gaming on that laptop will burn a hole through your desk lol. I've read it reaches low to mid 80's while gaming, and that's considering your not in a hot room, and airflow and fans are all working properly. Those are temps unheard of on the M15x, as my system reached a max of 66degrees on a max stress test of both the cpu,gpu and system as a whole.
Now that being said, The XPS 16 does have some nice features, as you'll have an option for the RGB lcd screen, which the M15x doesn't have. But i must say, the 1080p LED screen the M15x has is already mindblowing and is the nicest LCD i've seen on a laptop. (personally i don't see a real noticeable diffrence with the RGB that's worth 300$).
So it all comes down to, do you want a capable laptop with impressive specs and O.K. gaming that overheats wayyy to easily for 600$ less than the M15x? Or do you want TOP OF THE LINE build quality, head-turning eathetics, and overall performance that will breeze through everything you throw at it, with NO EXCEPTIONS?
For me it was the latter, and I'm Damn Happy with my decision. Once you open up that box, you'll instantly fall in love. you'll see what i mean if you do end up getting the M15x. I LOVE MY M15x ( can you tell) and so does everyone else who owns one
( and for a good reason)
Hope this has helped you out( hey i was due for a rant, don't you think? Inappropiatename_3 knows what i'm talking about
loll)
