If you've ordered a new one then it should come with a display port to HDMI converter cable. There are some other converters available online. I think the cheapest one is like 30 bucks. If you have not received a DP to HDMI converter cable with your M15x, then try calling alienware and they might just send you one for free![]()

Hopefully it comes with one. I have a $5 off coupon for newegg that expires the 28th., I just don't want to let it go to waste. Any other cool accessories anyone recommends?

I found this one on newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...e=display_port_to_hdmi-_-12-200-368-_-Product
That way you can use your coupon and it's relatively cheap too.
I'm not fully confident in myself so wait for someone else to comment on it but I believe that should do the trick
Edit : As vzxyz said it might come with one, I've seen reports of people with and without one in the box. Like he said, it's probably worth waiting till your laptop arrives and then if there isn't one there contacting Dell.
Cheers,
Joe -

people in US gets an adapter but some other countries may not get it.

Thanks for the help all, I'm looking at this backpack right now. As I need one for school, then maybe to throw this in sometimes when I go places. This one seems to be cheap and swissgear. Will it fit? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997678

I wanted to get Swissgear for their great build quality, I hope that was just a ridiculously big 17' and the M15x will fit it but I think I'll be going with the Targus XL so I don't have to worry. It'll definitely fit in that but there have been one or two comments about the back straps degrading after only a month but I don't see another alternative and hope it's only a minority.
Cheers,

hey.. when i shut down my m15x it automatically restarts and I am forced to shut it down manually.
Any good recommendations for backpacks in UK.... -
-
I was wanting a Swissgear Ibex but couldn't find one in NZ. I got a Targus Voyager instead and it's huge, you could fit 2 M15x's in the padded slot.

That's cool it comes with an HDMI adapter, but does it come with a DVI one too?
-
Just a quick question for those who've ordered an M15x and maybe have some haggling experience- I need the 260M, but that seems to mean that you have to get at least the 720QM proc. My budget's $1500 (AT THE MOST), but it seems as though the least expensive config with a 260 is $1700. I know I qualify for the student discount, so that should help. Anywho, is it likely I could haggle it down to about $1400 or so? Any of you M15x owners haggle the price down when you ordered?
-
It comes out to $1529 for me when I bump the CPU/GPU up.
-
i don't know about bags in uk but this is a nice one, its slash proof and can lock up the whole bag:

I think this is what you got. I don't think it is like a car LoJack which is a GPS transmitter.
This software probably connects to their servers every time you connect to the Internet and reports it's IP address and maybe even acts like Spy-Ware on your computer to dig out anything that can identify the person using the laptop.
Personally, I would not want this installed on my laptop for two reasons. First, I don't want any server keeping track of every place I connect to the Internet from or any other data it collects. Second, it would be vary easy to just write you own little program to connect to your home computer and report it's location. This way no one is keeping a database of the location of your laptop but you. Then if your laptop gets stolen you just show the cops the location it is being used.
Also, this is not that effective. If the person who stole your laptop simply reinstalled the OS then the LoJack software would no longer be installed to do its job.
--------------
However, if you don't know how to do that and your not paranoid like me then it may be a good thing to have. -

Just got my M15x! Really pumped now. Anyone knows how long it has to be charged for the first time?

Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone here uses Aliensense and how well or not it works
Cheers,
Joe -
its actually written in our bios and if we activate it then it cant be turned off even with a clean os install...it has what they called persistent module built in with our systems so if a clean os is installed it will reinstall the lojack system into the os again they even claim with a a moded bios it still will reinstall -
The way the system works is that you need to report your system stolen to the police and then provide the report to the people at computrace. They will then remotely activate the software and log all the ip addresses every 30 minutes and report it to the police. Hopefully the police will then issue a search warrant and get your laptop back. -

Hey thanks for all the info. This program can't trace anything else right?
Like some downloaded music or movies that I "bought" online?? = )
It's only activated when I report it and nothing else? -
Nope.. it does not monitor the contents of your HDD. So forget about RIAA And DMCA notices.. haha
-
What OS and CC center version are you currently running? -
Has a BIOS update fixed the M15x so it works reliably with the iPod touch/iPhone and the like? (I've confirmed the M17x R2 shipped without the problem, and on a lower end model Dell fixed it with a BIOS update, so I'm hoping...)

What are some good games or applications to throw at this thing once I get it?
I'm thinking about putting on photoshop, Alice, Crysis, Sims 3, and hopefully a good avi-dvd converter/burner all in one if i can find one. Micro. Office too, I just dont want to pay over $100 for that dang thing. -
Crystal Disk, HD Tune, CC Cleaner etc..).
Then Maybe Rivatuner & Throttlestop for the throttling fix and Furmark and Prime95 to check for throttling. (not necessary really, but riva tuner is fun if you know what your doing)
And maybe some Benching Software (3d mark, 3d vantage, you know...whatever your lil heart desires)
As for MS OFFICE ...well then what if i tell you, that you don't have to pay for MS Office, and you can download it legally for free. Better yet, its office 2010. Sound too good to be true? Its NOT. Its the Brand Spanking New Microsoft Office 2010 beta and it ROCKS. Been using it alot for school. No bugs so far that i know of, and its backwards compatible with 2003 and 2007. Here ya go, ENJOY

Hey thanks, I just downloaded 2007 60day trial, but if this lasts forever then i'm fine with that
By the way I just wanted to say that I love this forum.. Other than this I've been on starcraft forums, WoW forums, and a few other computer related forums... pretty much all flaming and little kids.
I'm glad to have finally found a good place with good people. -
games and apps is really up to you and what you need. a standard nero come with the system already. but i suggest getting ccleaner for everday use, it cleans your registries and other temporary file. and maybe some hardware monitoring programs like hwmonitor, gpu-z and cpu-z. and get an anti virus program.
j nice find on the office 2010....
here is the link for ccleaners, also have more good stuff in there as well

Hey.. my m15x gives a clicking noise when closing or opening the screen of the laptop... The tech rep says that its just plastic it'll go after few weeks its already been 3 weeks.. Does anyone have the same clicking noise when opening or closing... It is also there even if you adjust the screen....

Is there a "post your M15x" thread? Id love to see some shots of where everyone's comp settles at. If there isn't one, then we can't start it until I get my new one
-
steelcurtain11 Notebook Consultant
yeah i currently use ccleaner, spybot, and avg.
I use power2go for converting and burning, but it seems to always stretch out the video in a weird way. I've tried other programs that you can customize it, but it always places the a/v out of sync. So i just stuck with power2go since it atleast kept it in sync. -
Damn i edit my post and you guys already answered! lol
But yea Nero is essential ( if you need help getting a non trail version. PM me)
