    Hi all,

I have on order a new m17x, i720QM with dual ATI Radeon Mobile 4870's, RGB LED etc.

I know the system uses the P55M chipset, are the boards straight Intel-made boards or a third-party vendor with the chipset?

I spent a good deal of time reading on here, thanks for all the info!

PS: Anyone know realistically how long Dellienware is taking to fulfill orders?

Heh, I understand. I had also ordered an m15x i7 that shipped in 4 days... that I am returning once the m17x i7 appeared with the RGB LED screen :D

I'll post how long it took once I get it. It is due 02/01... I am hoping it will be *much* earlier.

hehehe, thing is, i am living in Israel and here, laptops are much more expensive than in US.
So basically, what i did is
    1. sold here
    2. ordered a new one from US.

by the way, it is REALLY not trivial to order a laptop from dell US from outside us.
The reason to order from dell US is obviously price.
Comparing to other countries it is marginally cheaper to order from US.
Especially when ordering an expensive system.
Do you guys think there are ppl here that are interested to do the same ? if so i can open a separate thread of how i went about it.

Anyone know if the M17X will appear on the Small and Medium Business page? It used to be and it disappeared when the i7 refresh happened. They still have the m15x. Just wondering if anyone knew if they were adding the m17X back?

    Thanks!

Don't know, they don't have it on the EPP page either so you might as well grab it off the Dell Home page.

    Few Questions

Im looking to get the m17x now that it has the Core i7

    1) is it better to get it with
    Intel® Core™ i7 920XM 2.0GHz (3.2GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
    or
    Intel® Core™2 Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz (12MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

    Which is better for Gaming

    2) Will the m17x get the US 3.0 anytime soon
or will we be able to upgrade that in our system even if we get it now ?

    3) is it Better to get SSD in Raid 0 for gaming performance

    Thank you
    God Bless

Definitely go for the i7 based M17x. The Qx9300 based system uses an older motherboard, older CCFL display and it has DPC latency issues. The i7 based system with the 920xm is faster than the Qx9300 as well. Dell really should stop selling the old M17x along with the i7 refresh, it's just confusing customers.

Try calling a Dell business rep and ask them to configure it for you. I had the EPP rep do that for me.

We most likely WILL get a single Nivida card as the Motherboard _Apparently_ doesn't support SLI But im sure you could buy a 4870 card and place it into the Laptop. Also expect the M17x to be around 3000 + in Aus, due to the fact they wont give you a option to upgrade the Screen it will be Default.

My girlfriend may be interested in buying my M17x-R1, if she does and I do decide to get the R2, I'll just be getting the 520M and upgrade to the 920XM later on.

what i'm curios about is that overclocking for the cpu mentioned earlier, if it works than an 820 would be fine as we would be able to OC probably enough to notice a negligible diff between it and the 920, which would be nice cuz then i can take that 600 i'm saving and put it towards an ssd and hdd combo plus 6gb of ram 4 just isn't enough, the eight i have in my m15x has spoiled me. i manage to use alot of it.

Well if the overclocking is indeed QPI based and we are allowed a maximum overclock of 15% (without turbo mode enabled), that would put the 820 at 920xm stock speeds on all 4 cores. Of course the 920xm would get its own 15% which would be quite nice. Depending on how this OC'ing turns out, I might just sell my 820qm on ebay and buy the 920. If the 15% limit is true, it's a pretty weak one. Up to 30% would be much nicer.

So do any of the I7 Core M17x have a working intrigrated GPU ?

If not then they all run on the 4870 GPU when on Battery power ?

Wonder what the battery life will be like???
