Nobody did or to be more precise, a clueless rep. suggested there might be but they always make stuff up. Still though, it doesn't answer why the 1333 mhz ram isn't configurable with the M17x-R2 when it is for the older M17x.

I keep seeing people say the 1333 MHz RAM isn't available, yet when you go through the Alienware web site to configure it you end up here. All the RAM that was available on the older M17x is there as well.

Did you do it through one of the EPP locations or something?

Ahhh, I see what it is. You have to select the 720 or higher processor to see all the 1333 MHz RAM options. Not all are there when you select a lower one. I always selected the 820 or 920 so didn't notice that before. So they do not offer the 1333 MHz with a 620 or lower processor then.

Been watching M17X progress as the months have flown by pretty much in line as expected and predicted, obtained a full refund for my first fully loaded M17X many months back and from what I can see to date.. happy I did.

Will keep checking on the forums now and then to see what the new rev can do, to see if it really works properly or is another poor work it out yourself machine with no real cures on the varying problems Prototype 1 had!

Hopefully AW/Dell have learnt from the first round of major returns and refunds on the 1st try, amazing how many refurbs you can find on sale now through their approved refurb re-sellers on Ebay!.......

It sounds like the RGBLED has exactly the same issues as the RGBLED in the SXPS 164X - too blue and washed out.

All we will need is a custom ICC profile which can be loaded system wide in Windows 7.

If it's like the RGBLED in the SXPS yeah it's pretty bad without using a custom profile. However get a decent profile and it's great. I just hope the black levels are better though as that's the one thing that lets my screen down.

Those guys discussing the rgb led in the precision thread want photo perfect color accuracy. This is something that the vast majority of gamers couldn't care less about. Furthermore I direct you guys to this guys comments regarding the display (he's one of those guys that wants perfectly accurate colors): http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5763270&postcount=978

Yeah I realise that but the M6500 guys are saying exactly the same about their screens as we have in the SXPS RGBLED thread, hence my comment.

Joker I don't want perfect accuracy at all, I just want a screen that is nice to look at and the SXPS at least in it's default setup is not great at all. Even games colours look wrong. It sounds as though the M6500 screen is the same, in which case it will look a lot better with a custom profile.

Anyone know if these panels are Samsung's? I've gotten a few Samsung's before and their colors were off a bit, especially reds, they were in the orange pallet, it took me a while to get em looking normally.

Yes, but only when the colors started looking normal, they were pretty nice looking those RGB's, very eyepopesque.

I had the same sxps w/rgb led and the colors were great. There was a red shift with it and the blacks were lighter than usual but that's because its also a much brighter panel. Also, this is a different model so the two can't really be compared. Based on what's being said in the M6500 thread, if the M17x gets the same one, it seems to be a great display with good blacks.

You are correct. Althought I didn't figure exact percent, I saved about $1200ordering through AAFES vice from Dell after adding in the tax I would have to pay for a Dell purchase. Of course, I have .0825 sales tax in Texas, so that it itself was a big savings, but all components were substantially cheaper (for M15x back in Nov). The one odd thing is they (AAFES) wanted an extra $199for a silver one and $299 for a red one  . Needless to say I settled on black, although I really wanted red lol ...

    Should i get a 4870x2 and i7620 or
    single 4870 and i7 820
which would be better for games and longevity??

Shirt, When you ordered through AAFES, did you call them? I found tha when I went through them on the website, I couldn't get the ATI cards. Did you have problems getting the configuration you wanted through AAFES? Are you limited to what they have on the site?

People are making a lot of hay about the color calibration on the RGB LED...

I think this is coming from folks who are truly in need of accurate coloring for real work, or are just into it. I don't think if you are a casual user or gamer that it's even that noticeable. Most people use televisions and monitors that are *horribly* untuned for color.... and think they look perfect. I suspect with no forum to read about it most folks would plug up their laptops, play a DVD and be quite pleased.

Hmm I wonder which one of us is going to hit boxing first? Day 8 and counting. Batboy was telling me his M17x (R1) took 2 weeks to get out of build! As a comparison, every M15x I ordered (4 total) took ~7 days to be delivered. The longest I ever had a system in build stage was about 10 days and that's when the first Dell XPS Gen2's came out.

Not sure how folks are getting EPP on this, I still don't see it on my EPP site (the non R2 is there, but the R2 shows no discount). Also at least for me I don't see any option for a blue ray player. :(

Same here, no EPP discount on the website, but at least now the core i7 is there ...
I guess we need to wait AGAIN for them to update it correctly, or to show those "special offers" for EPP customers.

I just configured it on the EPP site though and it doesn't show any EPP discount, and its the same price as when I configured it on the regular site. Do you think if you call they would put the 10% on and configure it from the EPP website? I'm wondering because I have a 5% off EPP coupon thats good until today, but I ordered 2 days ago. They couldn't use the 5% at the time because it was not configurable from the EPP website, they had me configure it off the regular site and save my cart so they could put the 10% discount in.
