The system doesn't show on the EPP site, you just have to call them, at least that is all I had to do to get an m17x i7 under the program.
I think the purposefully delay updating what is available there just to try to move stock they want to get out of their hair. -
It shows up under this link, if you look however it doesn't show any EPP discount for the i7 but it does for the core duo
http://www.dell.com/us/en/eep/lapto...17x/pd.aspx?refid=laptop-alienware-m17x&s=eep
Also here is the 5% additional off EPP coupon (only good til 11:59pm tonight).
KRCJC8VQSGGZMD -
I hope that's not a one time use coupon.
DPA discount doesn't work either. -
That coupon shouldn't be, it was listed on a dell flyer on my company website. Also on an unrelated note, I ordered mine with an i7 620m. Should that be upgradeable later to an i7 920xm without needing some kind of bios update? I was reading a thread about i7 620m vs i7 720m and one person seemed to think that you would need a bios update to go from i5 to one of the higher i7s.

Thanks for the replies, i have ordered the 4870x2 and i7 620
thanx for advice -
What I did when I ordered though AAFES for my previous M17x was apply for the Military Star card they have. I not only got the EPP discount, but I also got another 10% off for using the card for the first time. That was 20% off! I couldn't pass that up.
Since I am getting a full refund (the price prior to that 2nd 10% off) from Dell for my return I will have credit to use towards the M17xR2 since my balance is 10% lower than the refund. So, it's like I am getting another 10% off again!
-
keep going, it'll be free soon.
-
I talked to AAFES and Dell this week. They both told me the new configurations for the M17xR2 will eventually be on AAFES web site, but it could take a couple weeks. When I bought my M17x the ATI cards were available. That was the end of December.
-
LOL...I wish!
-
Hmm I wonder how long for the M17X with 5870s make it to the AAFES site.
-
When I ordered my M15x through AAFES, all available options were listed on the site (Dell link via the AAFES login). It was about a couple weeks after release.
About the only thing I didn't like was no visibility of shipping info on the AAFES site without e-mailing either Dell or AAFES. I got generic answers from both, but in the end, received my M15x about 10 days (business) from ordering, so was quite pleased. It was about 2 days after I received it they updated the original shipping status
.
-
I was able to go to Dell's website and put the PO Number in and see the shipping. The only thing that was weird is you have to use the zip code for AAFES as autentication and not your own zip code. I had to contact AAFES on the phone for that info and the lady walked me through it easy enough.

Hello All,
Can all the EPP/Ordering question/comments be moved to a separate thread? I'm looking for techy comments not ordering comments and this thread is a big combined mess?
Thanks,
Bruce -
its what this is for. Other owners helping others...you could not possibly have tech questions to a machine you dont have ...
sorry but i would be the first to help if you did.
I dont want 100000 other threads made from a single question that could be answered here -
It could be that I am crazy... but using that link posted earlier in the thread:
http://www.dell.com/us/en/eep/lapto...17x/pd.aspx?refid=laptop-alienware-m17x&s=eep
I am now seeing the EPP discount applied to the R2. Which is strange cause I just checked when I posted last and it wasn't like that?
Still no blue ray drive though (how hard / costly) would it be to add that later?
If changing out the DVD for a blue ray drive is easy then the only thing that would stop me at this point is if we had clues that the 4870 would be replaced with a 5870... which I am assuming would be a big performance upgrade.
Decisions decisions!! -
the drive is not easily swapped but it can be my video would help

hi guys, i've been lurking around in the alienware forum for about 2 months now and finally, they have the dell epp up for the i7 m17x so i put in my order. it's going to arrive on 2/10. the day before my birthday. lol. nice present to myself.
I'm studying architecture in college and will be doing CAD and 3d rendering in rhino and some photoshop. my current self built desktop i7 proc and gtx285 handles the job well but i do most work in school so i thought the m17x would do well.
here are my specs.

Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit
1 Year Basic Serivce Plan
Dual 1GB ATI Radeon™ Mobility HD 4870 in CrossfireX

i'm can always upgrade the ram myself right? or so i've learned on these forums. Not too sure about the raid for the HD. and lets hope the stuttering will be a thing of the past. -
I may suggest upping the warranty to 3 yrs (or Better) with complete care or premium service I think they call it now
-
weddingvideos4u Notebook Consultant
I upped my warrenty to 5 years!
you cant be too careful! -
is it possible to extend the warrenty later on?
-
Flames_Fan_Forever Notebook Consultant
Just suggesting that it would be nice to have one thread about ordering/warranties/discounts/delivery estimates and another thread about the technology in the new laptop and questions about which components to order eg. the video card, cpu, and RGB Screen discussions in this thread.
No offence intended and sorry if was. -
weddingvideos4u Notebook Consultant
Yes its possible to extend the warranty on a Dell system up to 5 years from the date of production.
the price depends on how many years, always found extending 3 years to be the most cost effective. one year is allittle expencive! -
DANG!
I can get my 21% off with the EPP R2
So for less than $2k I can get i7-620, RGBLED, and CF 4870's....
Decisions, decisions.... -
yes
but the rules differ for each Country.
in Canada for example if you do not buy Complete Care at the time of purchase then you can not add it later, you can only extend the basic warranty. -
weddingvideos4u Notebook Consultant
Thats true for Uk
You can not add acidental damage cover after the systems ordered, i have tried hard enough several times.
you can have NBD warranty extended or upgraded too for up to 5 years in UK -
Can or can't? If you can then details please lol
-
Yea, it was updated soometime today. I didn't see it earlier either but now the discount shows for the R2. Looking good!
-
Well you investing alot of $$$, and it only make sense to protect the inveestment.
besides you never know what's going to wrong down the road or what defect it may have -
Can, and I can't give any details
-
what are you waiting for ?! even if you don't want it, just buy and resell.
you could make at least 500 bucks on it. -
No more 3% DPA?
Waaaaa
-
Going for 24%?
-
Highly doubt that. Most people understand how to get at least 10% off. Which means you are looking at a $100-$150 profit depending on sale price. Don't know if it's worth the time.
-
Well, I took the plunge!
$2020 was the damage for i7-620, RGBLED, CF 4870's (this time lunar silver which is the only color I have yet to see the M17x in
)
ESD of 2/10/10 -
EDIT: Whats going on here??? How did that happen again?
-
Uhh, dejavu?
Can, and can't give any details
-
that's US citizens..
international buyers can't get ANY discount. i tried between 8 and 10 different reps, and none of them agreed to give me any discount.
there are some people here looking for somebody in US to buy one for them. hadn't i ordered mine i'd offer sleey0 here to buy one for me. It would have been a win win for us -
Get the printer warmed up. I'll take 7 days! I hope I win this time.
-
congrats !!! guess that renders my previous message obsolete
-
Depends on the LCD, drake.
If it isn't as crappy as the SXSP 16 RGB, then I may end up keeping it this time
-
Well zfactor likes it and if he likes it so should everyone else.
-
As long as it is better than the 16" sammy RGBLED....
-
Glad I'm not picky. I'd be more disappointed if the OC'ing is too restrictive.
-
Well, OC'ing is not done all the time like staring at the LCD
-
says you
-
Ok, I know this has been asked many times, but before I make my final decision and order the R2:
Trying to decide on the 820 or 920 processor. I mainly play MMO's online like WoW so would the 920 benefit that at all or should I just stick with the 820? It's a big jump in price, but I am willing to take that plunge if it's worth it. I know the GPU is a major component for games, but I am sad to say I am still not up to speed on processors and what programs would benefit from them the most.
-
IMO the 920 just isn't worth it. Especially for MMOs (heck the 720 would run WoW maxed out from what I have seen).
-
You can buy a couple more laptops for the price of the 920.
-
How has he seen it?
Same as the M6500?
