He saw and played with one at CES.

Oh, I didnt' know Dell had R2's at CES.
Sounds good to me -

If you are looking at an M17x at all, it does not really make sense to get the older version, so I would get the i7 for sure.
-
Ok, just got off the phone and canceled my R2 order now that the EPP site has been updated. The 10% off plus the 5% additional off code that's good until tonight means that I'm getting the same system but with a better processor (i7 720QM instead of i5 540M) and a second hard drive (was just a single 250GB now I'm adding a 320GB secondary as well) for $25 less!
The only downside is that my Estimated Delivery Date is 2/17/10 instead of 2/4/10. I can live with that -
Thanks to all for the advice. I'm convinced to get the 820 and save some money. Other upgrades I am getting include the RGB LED, Dual ATI cards, and maybe 6GB RAM. Still thinking I will just get 4GB and buy more RAM elsewhere for cheaper. Only getting the 320GB HD because I already have a 2nd HD I am putting in it as well.
Has anyone looked at the 1600 speed memory vs. 1333? Will it do any good in the M17xR2? -

the hyperx 1600 kit MAY work at the xmp speeds in the M17x R2

Additional 5% off EPP Expires 11:59p 1/22/2010 -
Damn, with EPP and the coupon this comes within 100 bucks of a Asus G73JH-A1 with the same stats (8G 1333, SSD, i820). The only difference is the screen (1080 vs 1200) and the GPU 4870 x2 vs 5870.
Dell just made my life hard considering the coupon expires at midnight.heh.

5% on my bday ?

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
-
Dang.
That 5% would have worked with my 21%.
I guess it's time to call EPP sales and see if they can apply it. -
Awesome +1 rep for the 5%. Just ordered a 2nd system.

I considered it, then I thought about what my wife would say and changed my mind.

+1 to that! lol -

damn joker, wanna buy me one, i'll pay you back.

So I may get this after all. For gaming would I get a significant gain from upgrading from i5 520M to the i7 620M/720Q? $135 is a decent amount that I'd rather save if the gains aren't that great. -
If Dell only knew it took a 5% discount to get more people interested I'm sure they would do it for the M17x all the time.

My grandfather was in World War II. Does that count ?

I would give it a try....

I got 18% off with this new 5%. I dropped the drive to a single 320 gb and am going to go the SSD route like you did for the primary. Added 3 yrs warranty to the system and it still came out pretty "cheap". -
The only problem is the 2/16 Estimated Ship Date on new orders, lol.
-
So I think I may pull the trigger I figure worse comes to worse I can probably return it.
So:
Processor: i5 520M
Memory: 4GB
Display: 17-inch WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 (900p)
Hard Drive: 500 GB 7,200
I figure I can use the second bay to drop in my current Hard drive (only an extra 80GB) and thus keep most of my game saves, etc. -
I'd go with the RGB LED display. The 900p display is CCFL which sucks. If it was WLED that would be fine but CCFL is just crap. -
I like my CCFL display.. Crap is HARDLY the word dude. Youre picky and have enough money to buy two machines which is NOT the norm.
-
Compared to today's WLED/RGB LED's it really is crap IMO, especially the one on the M17x with it's autodim. No offense, if you like it that's great but I've had CCFL based systems and they just don't compare to LED based ones. This is all my opinion of course, what's crap to one person is great to another. Besides, there's no excuse to have CCFL on modern computers, even cheap netbooks have LED backlighting now! -
No offense taken. I think you should revisit your use of the word Crap. It's a very nice CCFL panel on the M17x that is better than most of the notebook screens out there. That's not crap.

X - 18% = Total << Never will happen >>>
This is the actual breakdown of 18%.
X - 10% = Total 1
Total 1 - 5% = Total 2
Total 2 - 3% = Total 3 -
-
Yes you're right, they take each successive discount off the new subtotal.
Yep, saved me $145 which I can put towards an SSD. -
What's the Response Time for RGB LED 1080p Display? 8ms?
-
Oh, I also forgot to mention that the RGB LED was and extra $250 last week when I ordered and my new order today it was $225. That's a nice little change as well.
-
Yeah I'm going to grab an Intel 160GB G2 off eBay as soon as I find a good deal. I had a Samsung 256GB SSD with my previous M15x and it was pretty nice although the writes 4k speeds left a lot to be desired. The new system is already in production! -
Damn it Joker you convinced me to upgrade. Does the 17-inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 (1200p) also have the auto dim?
-
hi guys .... im back
-
where did you go?
-
-
I went to the asus side but Now I'm back ...
get it now ? -
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Heheheh, Jakkarus, I'm not picky. I wanted to make sure that the members don't call in to order and find out that they could not get that discount. Just a lil' education on discount. I work in retail.....lol -
But I am rough with computers so the warranty and this price is the selling point for me. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
-
No ... Dpa account got upped and the discounts helped so I'm going to get the m17x
