the issue is the outrageous prcies they charge for neutered configurations compared to the US offerings

hehehe, how about 4000$ for basic config (nvidia 260m non sli, 1440x.. screen, 250GB 7200 rpm HDD and one of the basic c2d procs) in israel ?

And it would probably be hard to justify having decent tech support outside the U.S. with out a dealer there. Unlss they contracted out, but I'm sure they want certified individuals wornking on machines backed by their warranty.

I am not sure I would call the techs I have dealt with certified lol

Just wondering if anyone else is scratching their head about this information taken from the M17x mobile manual (link posted by 5150Joker on the first page of this thread).
Hard drives two 2.5-inch drive bays supporting:
SATA-II or SATA-III hard drives
Haven't heard anyone mention the SATA III support and not sure if anyone else noticed it in the manual (Page 55). -
Nice if that actually means revision 3.
-
I have two quick questions.
1) I am ordering a M17x soon but I wanted to use a SSD drive I currently have. So I am configuring this laptop with just one 250GB SATA drive and when I get it, I will add the SSD to run my OS and core programs. My question is, will they provide me with a secondary HDD tray and interposer if I order just one hard drive initially? If not, what is recommended to make this possible?
2) Next question is, I get Windows 7 Ultimate from school for a huge discount and I want to install it on this laptop. Would it be fairly easy to just install it on the SSD and then install the drivers and command center and etc, afterward? I am just looking for a clean install with just the things I NEED, rather than what is given to me in the beginning.
Thanks for reading. Looking for any advice right now! -

yes it is all easy

I was going to ebay the second one but I'm moving soon so the hassle may not be worth it. I've sold two M15x's to international people before but fortunately they were in the US at the time so it made things easier. I don't think I'd be comfortable sending an item overseas unless I was paid via Western Union or wire transfer. With that said, if anyone wants one bad enough, I'll sell you this one:
-
Joker, any thoughts on my previous post about SATA III? Hopefully they add USB 3.0 support too.

I send a spec to www.hidevolution.com Requsting for a quote for the same system as in my sig. They quoted $4818.12 +261 shipping that comes to~ £3152. But Alienware UK is offering (phone) the same for £2947 ($4748). The actual cost of this is around £4400(assuming $200 for BD rom) in US.

What type of memory is supposed to be on the 4870's in the m17x-r2? Is it GDDR3 or GDDR5? I can't really find anywhere that states that information :-/
-
GDDR3 until proven otherwise.
-
-
-
It'd be funny if it were GDDR5.
No one is expecting it like last time. -

lol, ya...hilarious.....

Yeah it would kinda make the 5870 pointless if it was.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
it would own the 5870s...lol
twice the memory bandwidth -
I mean, we are all dreaming anyways, right?
-
wait, why would the 4870's with gddr5 own the 5870's with gddr5, what am i missing?

256 bit bus vs 128 bit
it would be awesome -

I would be in heaven if its GDDR5 !!. But I doubt it.
-
Ahh the whole GDDR thing will never go away! lol.
-
now its about the bit bus
-
My 4870 takes the short bus.
-
Couldn't find a better picture because the stupid filter at work -
Edited..mod del. plz.
-
ahhh okay didn't know that about gpu's, so then if it turns out it is gddr5 on the 4870's should i get those instead of the 5870's when they come out. this makes me think the 5870's aren't much of an upgrade to the 4870's then even if they are gddr3. how much better are the 5870's compared to the 4870's then if one has double the bus but the other hast faster memory, besides the DX11, eyefinity, and supposed tesselation capabilities of the newer card.
also thinking of getting a desktop possibly, whats the deal with the SLI 1.8gb gts 260's, wouldn't the 280's be better at 1 gb each? -
-
4870s are DDR3. Only the 5870's will be DDR5. The speculation is that they will be anywhere from 10%-20% faster then the 4780s. Pure speculation at this point. They wouldn't introduce them if they we're not going to be better then the 4870's in one way or another. Regardless of the 256 bit on the 4870s, the 128 bus of the 5870s will be faster due to the new tech. ie. DDR5
-
ohhh ok, but hypothetically if the 4870's where gddr5 would they be godly do to the 256 bit?
-
I think the speed difference between the 5870m and 4870m will be similar to to the desktop 5750 vs 4850:
-
EDIT: wrong thread
-
-
So from what i have been reading from people and benchmarking the 4870 is way more nicer and powerful than the 5870 and the only difference is gddr5 and dx11 well then which one will be better in the real world?
-
We haven't seen any proof of a dual 5870 system yet. It might not actually happen.
With that said DX11 games will be limited this year. It will eventually pick up but who knows how long it will take. If this is for gaming purposes a dual 4870 system would be better right now than a single 5870 system. -
Jesus Cracksmokingchrist thats funny.
I nearly popped a testicle I laughed so hard. -
USB 3 and DX11 SLI or CF and I'll be joining this crazy bandwagon

placed my order friday, and order still hasn't gone through. guess cause of the weekend
