I'm curious to see if the other CPUs have this same problem since the 920 would draw more power than them. Anyone with a 720 or 820 been able to check?

I'll be able to check on mine with a 720 later tonight, I will run Furmark 1.8 and check on a kill-a-watt, I hope the issue wont happen to units with the less power demanding CPUs...

I saw it at 220W when I glanced over but I'm pretty sure it went above the max rating. But about 210-220W is when it gets triggered to throttle.

Why dell can't fix this issue with more powerful power unit? I just report this to engadget.

i stand the same way i felt about the M15x i bought. If and when it throttles IN game i will indeed force a refund but until then i could care less about it.

Sandy bridge will lower power usage and so will the 5870's ;)

I just got some hardcore throttling in Frontlines fuel of war :( I'm going to reformat and start fresh to make sure there are no driver problems. Have you seen any throttling/flickering?

Damn here we go again with the problems of this amazing machine, why can't they just use the 220 watt supply for the m1730 and precision m6400, do you guys think the m6400 powerwatt supply will work with this and be able to fix this? Joker you have the I920xm that also could be a problem, but even with that they should think uh we should have a special psu just for people who want extreme processors which is a lot of people.

Yeah, wheren't the 5870's consuming less power?
(speculation) Maybe the the M17x-R2 is build for 5870's instead of 4780's, but it's released to early... without having the amount 5870's needed to properly initiate release???

Alright well I'm doing a clean install again to rule out driver conflicts. If it still happens I might just RMA it and get a 720 based one like yours.

Mail me your M6400 adapter and I'll try it ;) All I want is for my games to work at stock system settings. I don't care about OC'ing or chronic benchmarking.

You said you were coming to ny soon i live in nyc. Yeah i don't care for overclocking either much but a system this size could handle it. I like benchmarking a lot. At this price there should be stablilty, didn't it come with a a 240 psu i read in another fourm.

I have an M6400 so I can try it out on Monday. Course I got the 820 not the 920 CPU so not sure that I will see this issue. Are the 240W these come with really that crappy compared to the one that the M6400 came with?

240W PS doesn't mean much when the system starts slowing itself down around 200.

Sleey0 its not slim dude its huge that huge brick but i don't care because i never have issues with my machine, like this, just when i take it off from ac to battery screen flickers a bit but i was told it was normal, i ran a diagnostic and everything and nothing found.

    I guess you can try.

you probably have horrible credit. I graduated from college with 50k in debt and no job and successfully applied for a 20k line of credit no questions asked. All because i paid off my credit cards on time.

Credit is one of the most fundamental resources in your life, i don't understand why they don't just teach kids to pay their stuff off on time. Saves a world of pain

Yes it does save a lot of pain to pay on time which i plan on doing, i don't have credit i never got a credit card just well don't feel like being bothered with fees but i totally agree that it is easier to have one and having one will better ones life in terms of instead of spending all the money at once pay it off correctly, well i am going to call dell financing tomorrow see if i can bs around and persuade.

Excellent news. Thanks Moo, Quad. However, I was thinking about getting a 920XM a little down the road. Is this happening when OC or at stock too with the extreme proc?

Waiting for news on Witcher's machine.

It seems to be happening even at stock on the 920 from what Joker and Mandrake have said...

Witcher is just going to be testing games ... No Furmark or anything extreme like that... So if games run fine that is good enough for him..

I just tried Dell drivers + Turbo Mode on + Balanced Power but No OC and the flickering wasn't there in Borderlands. I'm trying Cat 9.12 right now.
