I got that. I called the Home and Office support (Which was the number on the site) and the guy said i was in the small business department.

So, nothing from AW HQ?

I am starting to wonder whats taking so long, nagshead said we would definitely have an update today, couldn't they at least tell us that they haven't found a solution yet, I need info.
-
Im sure he already knew what was going on yesterday but until they say its ok to post something his hands are tied....
-
has anyone tried this number for tech support (866)287-6727. I just got off the phone with them and they told me that they are aware of the problem and that it is a driver compatability issue and they will have it updated in about a week. sorry not good news but that is what they told me.

By the time we get word on this... we'll be wearing gold padded diapers!
I got to get more cowbell!!

Hmmm...
SNL skits was not what I was hoping your were posting. -
Trust me if I had something worthwhile to report I would have. Right now I have only minimal info. to go on.

Wow guys, I am too young to have seen that SNL, but it's so much better than most of the stuff they have now.
-
-
Can you reveal anything to us joker? Someone says its a driver problem and dell are going to update it next week. What do you think?
-
Honestly there's nothing for me to report. I'm not even sure what I'm allowed to say or not because most of the conversations are in a medium that's confidential and unrelated to the actual fix. The little I do know indicates that the problem has been isolated so you guys should hear something very soon from nagshead. I'm quite sure Alienware/Dell are very serious about fixing this and they will get it done sooner than later.
Edit: Just to clear up the above. Confidentiality means I'm referring to conversations outside the scope of the flickering problem/fix. They are in regards to other unrelated issues and/or conversations not relevant to this topic. Hope that clears it up and people don't think something is being concealed from them because it isn't. -
-
Pweeeeeezzzzeeee?
Lol. -

My concern is why do they feel the need for all this confidentiality, are they that scared to just admit they screwed up?
-
-
They aren't hiding any information. When I mentioned confidentiality, it was my own personal info. relating to my system which has nothing to do with the actual flickering problem and/or fix (thus why I didn't even think it appropriate to mention). Trust me guys, there's no conspiracy and as soon as nagshead gets a final report I'm sure he will update here asap.
Just to reiterate what I know: They have isolated the problem. Following the basic rule of logic, they must now be working on a fix. The final report detailing the problem hasn't been issued yet but I'm sure it will be. I haven't once seen AW/Dell deny there's a problem and if they did, they would not have captured my system almost immediately. Lets give them a little time, nobody wants a half assed fix right? Yeah they screwed up but sometimes that happens when you're at the bleeding edge of tech, nobody's perfect. -
-
I understand!

It seems that Joker attitude changed " today " , he seemed to be patience than usual with the issues on the m17x-R2.He seems to be on AW side and backing them.
This means that he knows something that we don't. His laptop has been probed so much that he is kneeling at the mercy to not say anything to stop them from probing.
-
Damn more woes, well this is the bleeding edge of tech and this is what happens, i have truly experienced any type of dual graphics so i wouldn't know, but so far damn so many issues. This is a major issue that needs to be fixed and their tech support is going downhill way down, i hate one of these idiots give me an attitude when its something i know i am talking about.
-
I desperately want the news, but if you guys think of it from their perspective it makes sense to withhold info till You are sure. Would you really want nags to come here and say that the engineers are almost done, or have almost figured out something, the answer is no. After already making a mistake it's better to wait till you are absolutely sure so there are no mistakes later on. Saying that they are still working on it gives absolutely zero new information so we are just going to have to wait. This is no emergency or war or anything, in this case it's actually better to have a perfect solution tomorrow than a good one today.
-
Has anyone else looked at their Device Manager and checked the monitor and have it say "Generic PnP Monitor"? I've been trying to see somewhere that it says it is the RGB LED one but I can't find it yet.
-
-
i agree again and as always it takes time to fix somthing the correct way. you wouldnt want them to rush out a quick fix that 4 days later messes somthing else up there ganna run there fix threw brick walls to make sure its solid and isnt going to affect anything else.
-
Ok guys I just received an update that I can happily share with you: As I mentioned, the problem was isolated and now it has been resolved. It had to do with the bios being too conservative with the AC adapter power limits and artificially throttling down. As a result, Alienware should be advising owners to disable turbo mode as a short term fix until the new bios that resolves this issue goes live.
Nagshead will be here soon to give you guys more info. but this is what I know and I'm sharing it with you. Hope this helps. -
Woohoo!
and oh yeah...+rep! -
Excellent news. Thanks dude.
-
ZOMG now i want a 920XM!!!! guess ill just wait till i get to the desert

-
like I said a bios update to correct the power tables -
all this power talk makes me ungry!
-
Yeah, a few people pointed to a power issue fixable by a Bios update. Now all we have to hope for is that while modifying that nothing else gets broken.
-
Whoo Joker I would give you rep if I could, gotta spread it around. Did they mention if it was only the 920 and 820 systems affected?
-
-
well the people with the 920 would be the only ones i would think of that mess the power table up especially with the overclocking and all the power there processor sucks down is more then the bios likes
-
Joker, I guess they are releasing your system now then?
-
His system is prolly the guinea pig for the new bios ver.
-
-
there probably going to use his lappy to test out the new bios

All of the stutter issues I had with my M17x were absolutely related to power management (my speculation - but well educated speculation)
Same thing that was hurting the M17......
Maybe someday a laptop will be made with the proper power supply and BIOS power management
+rep'd you joker - thanks for the ongoing info -
Thanks Joker...hopefully they are going to throw you some shiny upgrades for your laptop for all your trouble.
-
probably get the designers personal number just in case there are anymore problems nd he can call and they will hook it up.
-
Then again every other high end system including the d900f has a 220W power supply (compared to the 240w of the M17x)...so bios settings might have been a bit conservative.
Personally I appreciate and respect AW response to the problem. It looks like they have isolated the problem and have found a fix. At the same time we are not retards here, if there is something fishy with the current fix it will definitely show up on the forums at some point or another. -

Joker,
Congratulations... I'm glad they were able to track this down so quickly. You've been through the mill, so I'm very happy for you that things are now turning around.
All-in-all, after dealing with the higher levels of both Alienware and Dell on my issues they are a very fantastic company. Unfortunately, the six levels of middle management are gumming the works up!
If they can turn this around quickly they will come a long way in restoring faith with those of us who have been long-term Alienware owners. -
Woo! Great news. I was really hoping it wasn't a hardware fault.
