Why didn't you just buy directly from Dell? They are lumping 4 years of warranty with a system that has a crap CCFL panel and only a single 4870 for the low low price of $2795.

Hey Grock the best part for this laptop is the screen for me. Im not a heavy gamer so I ordered with the single card. You can get a much better system for about 750 dollars cheaper from dell. Dell has very easy financing. My stepson filed bankruptcy and applied for a dell prefered card and was approved for 2000 dollars lol. If I was you I would cancel and order direct from Dell. Get the RGB screen at least. Just a suggestion.

Well, just spoke to AW support (Not Dell....AW) regarding the VT support, the short version is we are SOL if we want VT support, basically they said "we are workinjg on a BIOS that supports VT" but not to expect is soon. Well gee...thanks a lot AW

I know at least one other person here who this is pretty much a deal breaker for them. They did say the R1 supports VT and they offered me a exchange to a R1....uh...NO THANKS

Heya AW rep lurking here....whats up with THAT ??

I know its a pain but its worth regretting a 2700 dollars purchase. There are discounts you can get on the system buying direct from Dell. Wow you guys are hard on people here. I thought this forum was for heping others. I could have spent 5k on this system and not blinked an eye. I dont waste money and wouldnt have used two video cards like you all do. I use this for surfing and casual gaming. I just realy like the design and the awsome screen. Its like if you dont have the highest speced system people ignore you and act like your a troll.

I dunno if you're referring to my QVC bit or not, but I just laugh whenever I hear their name because I recall the ladder bit - I actually saw that live with a group of friends so it brings back memories.

I just hope everyone gets the best deal they can, don't care what spec they got.

EDIT: Also, check out the Mike Rowe QVC stuff on youtube for a laugh. Yes, he worked there before dirty jobs.

I know everybody is just tryin to help. The biggest deal on them was the "easy pay" option. But not a nessecity. and if the screen is really that bad I dont want to waste my money

Yeah for $2800 you can get much better than what QVC offers. If you find the right discounts (e.g. EPP) you can get a nice RGB LED system with the same specs for well under $2800.

I paid 2900 (with tax) for the system in my signature. 1 year advanced warranty (which I will extend, year on year, for the next 3 years).

Of course, they upgraded me to the 920xm from the 820qm for free after complaining about how many issues I have had and asking for a refund... but hey :p

Alright guys just started having this issue let me know what yall think. Now not sure if everyone is aware of the problem with the AC power cord, but i'm experiencing a new problem, the computer recognizes that the power cord is connected but not charging but its not losing its charged either. It's just staying static at 28% charge.

Haha very nice it worked. :D Thanks. Phew I got a little worried there for a second. Also I was wondering what exactly is the deal with the none dell AC adapter? If dell knew they were gonna send this particular adapter why wouldn't they make it compatible so we don't get this error everytime we turn on our computers?

I would call tech and get a new ac adapter. Mine doesnt do that...yet. Someone said they didnt have the power cord plugged in all the way when they got that at starup. The only problem Iv really had is a stuck re pixel in the middle of the screen.

Hey guys. Just wanted to reiterate as it's that important to me.
Please, if you feel that this is something you will want on your machines let alienware know about it. I pm'ed nagshead asking him to influence aw to add this support to the next bios. I am also going to talk to aw reps once I get the machine. And I ask those who use virtualization to do the same. I hope that would get alienware's attention and make them actually implement it.
To me the answer wwoods got from their tech doesn't sound so convincing.

Ummm, yep. Pretty darn important. In all the homework I did when planning this purchase, the thought of it NOT supporting VT-X never even crossed my mind. Like others, I thought having a CPU that supported it would have meant no trouble having a BIOS that supported it as well.

Maybe there will be a BIOS update that addresses this before mine eventually makes its grand appearance, but at the moment it isn't going to be nearly so grand.

Just been chatting with UK online chat team. I'm patiently waiting to purchase a m17x-r2 but naturally want the specs I actually want. So, was asking about availability of RGB in UK since the online order site does not have it.

Response: "I can email you when we get an update on the status."

When asked if I could configure a SSD and SATA II like US orders can I was told, "That configuration is not available in UK" then "I can email you when we get an update on the status."

I turn to you, as those with greater knowledge of Dell/Alienware than their online chat employees.

Anyone know about RGB in UK, why the delay in availability? Also why no HHD config beyond RAID1?

    Thanks in advance.

I am aware of the situation in UK. What i can suggest is following advice from this thread and ordering from US website.
I know for a fact there is another user that is trying to do the same right now. That way you can save some money on the order along with getting the exact config you are looking for.
On a side note, i wouldn't bother with dell's SSD, i'd go for Intel X25-M SSD drives. I never owned one but the consensus here is that they are much better than those samsung drives that Dell install.

Thanks will look into that US order option.

As far as the drives go. I would at least be happy if UK offered a RAID0 set up. It just bothers me that all options are so stripped down. A prime example is the name plate. I feel confident in saying the UK has ability to engrave your name on a piece of metal, yet the option is absent.

It makes mockery of their slogan "Are you worthy?" - apparently us non US bods are less worthy. Poor.

    hi all,

Sorry to intrude but i have been contemplating buying a M17x for the past week of someone local selling it for £2200 brand new (details listed below)

    Intel® Core 2 Extreme Quad Core QX9300 2.53GHz,1066MHz FSB,12MB L2 Cache
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit- English
    17-inch WUXGA 1920 x 1200 Beyond HD 1200p
    4096MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM
500GB Free Fall Sensor (7200 RPM)
SLI Dual 1GB GDDR3 nVidia GeForce GTX 280M
Internal Blu-Ray RW (Blu-Ray, DVD, CD Read & WRITE)
Wireless: European Dell Wireless 1510 (802.11n) Half Mini Card
Wireless: European Dell Bluetooth 370 Card
3 Years Next Business Day service + 3 years Accidental Damage

is this the r1 m17x? the r2 is the i7?

i have been reading lots of posts on this and have got mixed reviews but the one that worries me most is the nvidia problems with gliching in games and such.

any one had any experence with this and do u think the deal is worth it?

it was a replacement on a previous laptop and is in brand new condition.

    thanks for your help

Also the raid option is 50 bucks more expensive than 2 seperate drives of same volume. So it's really annoying to see dell do that.

As it's been mentioned, you guys could buy the system in the US either through a trusted NBR member or a 3rd party dealer. Should save those of you abroad some money and open up more options.

On another note, I'm hoping I get my system back today in one piece. I've emailed nagshead and I'm waiting to hear back. Since I purchased the notebook, I haven't had a single day of use out of it. At this point lets all hope all this was worth it and they got what they needed to issue a proper bios fix.

Yea I know....even a email would suffice. I am just not the most trusting in "word of mouth" from a big corp...this comming from someone who works for a big corp.

That is also why when I speak to a manager of aneother corp for a customer service issue, I always ask, "can you shoot me a email just to confirm....."
