    AW "recommends" win7 ultimate on the purchase page. XP mode is one of those features that people pay the big bucks to buy ultimate--yet the BIOS doesn't have the option to disable TXT or enable VT-x. Seems like if they recommend upgrading the OS, they should provide a means to use its features. I'm not a BIOS programmer, but it seems that the code needed to add the option(s) would be pretty trivial to add. Even my wife's $1500 Studio 1747 has a virtualization option in the BIOS.

    We can only hope that they'll see this as an easy fix and add it soon.

    Good for you Saosin. At least you arent like me and having all the trouble in the world working against you when trying to order like Dell reps "charging" me twice for a machine in the same week that i never ordered and i havent received an email from ANY of the dell representatives i spoke to. i have also been charged for an alienware backpack that again, i have not received an email from a dell rep about either.

    Oooh, and the fact that dell reps HATE the reply button in their email.

    Did anyone have their system's ship date pushed back a few weeks only to have it come earlier than expected?

    Story in case you missed it, was told 2/17 would be my ship date, but now it's 3/5 :( major bummer!

    I just now got home and plugged in the R2 for testing. I plan to do a write up about my visit to Alienware since they were extremely accommodating there (especially Gerhard/Gary) and discuss my imprsessions of the AW staff and office in general.

    Now to get to what everyone wants to know, is the flickering solved? Well I just fired up a quick game of Frontlines Fuel of War in crossfire WITH 5% OC enabled on the CPU and it was perfect, no flickering at all. So it looks as if this bios does indeed resolve the flickering problem. I was also told that this new bios will go live on the website in about a week or two at most so it won't be long before the rest of you have it. I also got my LCD panel replaced with a new one and finally no dead pixels :)

    Awesome man, looking forward to the write up. Props on AW to hook you up with the screen. Now THAT is customer service. Dell could learn a thing or three from their subsidiary.

    Is there a store or something there at the mothership?
    I'm going there this summer and would love to have an excuse to visit there.
    Also, was turbo mode enabled too, with 5% overclocking?

    Well they're really one in the same at this point. Dell's presence was felt very much at the Alienware office since all the memos, id tags etc had Dell plastered over them. That said, I want to thank nagshead for arranging everything and getting all this done so quickly.

    There's no store, just a lobby that you walk into and then you take an elevator to go up to where their design team is working and I think the other floor had their labs but I wasn't allowed in (obviously) because they have unreleased products there. Overall it was a very nice experience AND I got to play with the new M11x.

    There were no games on hand to run it but the build is quite solid despite it being plastic. The new lid design looks great and the keyboard had no flex at all. The 11.6" display was also surprisingly comfortable to use and it seemed pretty high quality. It was completley silent, in fact the fan wasn't even running at idle and its light weight. People will be very pleased with it.

    Not sure if this allowed or possible, but what would stop you using the bios update tool and backing up your bios and allowing others to test it?

    have you been sworn not do this?

    Nothing but I wouldn't do it anyway. The reasons should be obvious: 1. backing up and distributing a bios isnt' safe. 2. They will issue it themselves very soon. 3. I wouldnt want to create headaches for them, they were nice enough to load it on my machine early.

    I just ran 3dmark06 with the CPU at 5% in the bios and the turbo multipliers at 26..it worked perfectly, not a single stutter/throttle. You guys are going to love this new bios, especially 920xm owners, its a god send.

    Can you BIOS overclock with a 720 or 820?
    From what I gathered you can only BIOS overclock the core2extreme processor on the R1. Is this true?

    Ok my system has arrived! But... already got a couple issues aside from the flickering.

    Noticed of course that my HDD were not raid setup as many of you have already announced.

    First thing I did was install Crysis to see how things worked before updating drivers and such. - flickering and unplayable fps. Crossfire enabled and system set to high performance mode

    After that went to check check out the discs that came with the system.... crysis disc won't eject out of the system. Loader makes grinding sound then crysis goes back to autorun.exe selection. My loader is obviously broken/jammed (can someone PM me that link for a dissassembly so I can try to get my disc out?)

    Also my wireless speed is crap. for some reason it can't download data any faster than 14kbs/sec. Then disconnects from the network. can't download anything. I am using my old laptop to write this.

    And as I have been typing this the AW just went into sleep mode and has started to snore!! The fan keeps going full blast then dropping down, then full blast, then going down. is going on?!?!

    Screen looks good though... no dead pixles...

    5%
    is like an extra
    200 = sm 2.0
    200 = sm 3.0
    2000 = cpu score

    500 or so plus total points on 3dmark06 that is.

    a better cpu score on all cpu test
    and the fact that they even let you over clock..extremes only...lol

    that's what you would be missing.
    in competition..that can make or break you...
    in every day gaming..you wouldn't even know the difference.
