when you over clock using eleet
    what exactly are you doing?
meaning..what slider or sliders or qpi sliders are you moving?

time to find out about this 4 core myth
    does yours look like this?

Only the Turbo Mode controller. Basically its a Multiplier extension.

so when you click the turbo mode button, does it add like 300 mhz to your cores?
and do all 4 sliders move or only one slider in the multiplier section.

check these test out running wprime95 and how they affect the cores.
one is running 4 cores and the other is running 4 cores 8 threads...

NO way in the world the machien will push the CPU that has a 55W TDP @ 2.0 ghz to 4.0 ghz .....

    huh? your losing me.
mine was an example for him to try and see what he comes back with.
as for 55w tdp..the max is probably about 70 or so, but i know it's higher than what they tell you. because they aren't stressing the system. they are running it at standard specs.
we are just trying to find out what is what. im sure you we're told you couldnt get your 260m to where you got it..if you believed them..you wouldn't have even tried, now would you?
but until it's verified by a real user and not paper...it's still up in the air.

Here is just an example. With proper cooling and without stuttering/flickering issues.. I probably could get it a lil' over 4.0Ghz. I already hit 21897 3DMARK06 @ 3.97xx

All i am saying is there is no way that system is running @ 4.0 ghz.

At 2.0 its running at 55w( more like 60-65) there is no way its going to be hitting 4 on air cooling in a laptop that ALREADY has power issues

yeah, im not the expert on that. that's why im trying to get him to run a few test to find out what's going on. if i had one. i would have the answer.

kinc apparently did it with a qx9300 - he never said exactly how.
gophn did it with a d900f - all though he said he wasn't stable.

again...not the expert...only looking to hear the end results.
and extremes work differently from regular chips and can operate on far less voltage. that's why xeons cost so much as well. along with being unlocked.

    but it's all only information.....

the system throttles @ stock with the BIOS he has and flickers.

sooo i just don't see it happening. I know full well Kinc and mandrake did it. But the D900f was built around that CPU and the W90 had a desktop chipset and the M17 was just awesome and had WAYYY more voltage then this thing.

The i7 also pulls more power then qx9300's

So called AW tech support to see what they could do for me. Had the guy go through and do the remote service thing to somehow get the wireless working properly. But since the optical drive is bust decided to try and see if we could eject it through the BIOS or so he said he was trying to do that. He had me change the SATA Controller in the BIos from AHCI to ATA.... all I know is that now the system can not get into the BIOS. So... they are sending out a tech next week to install a new HDD, Raid my Drives, Install a new Wireless Card, and new optical drive...

Can anyone tell me what happend when he made me switch the SATA Controller that made the the HDD fry?

you must have forgotten about the whitebook and the 1.26V for a qx9300 :)

    but i hear ya.

also take note of me saying the qx9300 drew less power then the i7

ummm....drop from 8 threads to 4 threads and the i7 will pull just about the same watts' with lower temps and less voltage? the qx is clocked higher and older tech...while the i7 is clocked lower with newer tech.

still not sure what all this has to do with him seeing if he is running on all four cores though.

    edit..i see you did.

    ok...
when i over clock with my i7-975 extreme. we do exactly what your doing ren..we clock up the multipliers.
turbo mode tries upping only one core, but if you have control..it will do what ever you put on the cores.
    translation.
all four cores are running at rated speed.

this is how the real over clocking of extreme cpus is suppose to work.. then you would use the qpi to adjust for a closer match to your rated ram speeds and that little more ump you may be looking for, before a blue screen of death.

get a cpuz validation and then post that to hwbot.org.

    great job ren!! 4.2 ghz

    hummmm, what about everest?
man, im impressed!! finally..real over clocking of an extreme cpu..about damn time!!!

and wait...it gets better...joker has the new bios on his. and has no flickering what so ever.
you might beable to do a bit more damage with that new bios..slated for something like a week to two weeks.

side note...when you upload your images to image shack...dont re-size them..upload them as is.
then just use the thumbnail for forums link to post here. that way we can see the pictures better

    side note:
and it says it's running at 75 watts...pretty much what i thought it would be....

lol I guess I'm gonna splurge on a 920XM. If I can at least get at least 2.66ghz or 3.0ghz stable 24/7 on all 4 cores I'll be one happy camper. :D

It would be better if he just added the pics as an attachment to his posts, as he can add multiple pics which show up as thumbnails and expand to full size once we click em.

these i7-920xm's are proving to be quite the over clocker...up to 4.2 ghz from 2.0 ghz....

Indeed 4.2 on all four cores is nothing short of insane. Turns out these 920's are all everyone hoped they'd be and then some.

So John, you getting the urge to get an R2 yet?? lol I'm betting you could push 24 -25k with your expertise, perhaps more if those 5870's start rolling out for the R2 soon.

urge, yes!..but i would only be able to go so far with it. and all i would beable to bench is the 920/5870's..then my benching would be over.. :( :( ...
here i bench allot of different things which keeps me pretty busy...but if i we're..i would grab the r2 for sure. start with 4870's then upgrade to 5870's. that way i could bench both cards. :)

that doesn't seem unreasonable with the new bios coming out.

you guys aren't quite understanding how this turbo stuff works...
when you tick the turbo box..it adds like 300 + mhz, but since he has an extreme with unlock multiplier (or suppose to be one way or the other) he is allowed to change his multipliers. just like you would with any extreme cpu using eleet. (still not sure if you can do that with the 820/720's)
turbo is basically the os telling the core to jump to multiplier 24 while the others stay on 23, but if you control the multipliers...then they all jump together.

I was thinking of turbo boost whereby it disables the rest of the cores in lieu of overclocking 1/2 cores.

If thats disabled when you overclock, then my bad,as I've not really followed the mobile I7 that closely.

that was what AW had in mind..true
    but
eleet allows you to control those same cores. so if you set them, they wont change. turbo is suppose to control your multipliers..that's how it started out. which it does, but if you now hold the keys to the turbos witches (the core sliders) then it can't do anything about it. why? because to it...it's now in manual mode.
so basically what eleet allows you to do...is multiplier over clock your cpu...manually.

this is a very good thing!!!..it's what we have been after since the whitebook first hit the scene.
it's down fall...you need something else to jump in between the multipliers. because 100 mhz jumps can be very problematic when trying to fid the sweet spot...why? because if you need to be at 3.92 and all you can get to is either 4.01 or 3.83.....it's a problem..this is where the bclk over clocking would come in and save the day. with 1mhz bumps....

Man what a night. I took apart the system to apply my MX-3 and in the middle of the application the tube ran out! So I ended up using AS 5 which is still okay but I plan to ditch as soon as my new MX-3 tube ships. What kind of idle/load temps are those of you with 920xm's seeing?

    Hi Joker,
I see you like to use ARCTIC MX3 Any particular reason you use it over ICDiamond 24k?
Is there a Greater advantage to using it?
