Ok scook cheers for the heads up. I do know i got the 8800m gtx SLI for the m1730 as a aftermarket upgrade. Just called them up and asked to purchase part number XM888 and got it no problem. I dunno why you guys had problems getting the 4870`s.

 

The M17 owners had the same problem in trying to get the 4850s for their machines. Only a handful of people managed it. Although that was still being handled by AW support, not Dell directly like the M17x and M1730 are

 

They quoted me $519.00 with crossfire cable, but not sure this was even the correct part as the 3 people i talked too had almost zero idea as to what i was looking for. Does that sound about right for card and cable?

 

a pair of 4870s should be more than that....but spare part pricing is not always straight forward

A pair of 4850s for the M17 (very similar parts) was $425 I think, so that $519 price may be right. Makes us feel pretty fleeced if you paid nearly $1k for them in your system through the config online

 

does alienware support even exist anymore ?

 

That 519 was for 1, the system has 1 in it already.....

 

New version of the Command Center is up, there is a Firmware upgrade for the AlienFX card and graphically changed the look of the app quite a bit:

Alienware support only exists for Alienware systems like the M17 and older now, all the new stuff is handled through Dell support (but I get kicked to AW support on phone from time to time)

It will be nice when they have this merger completed and their systems more efficient

Have the R2 flickering issues been fixed?

 

Oops I have the flickering problem with mass effect 2 seem I will have to disable the turbo so even the 720 qm have the problem

What do most people use to overclock their 4870's? Just kind of curious.

I don't know if anyone knows, but it seems that the AMD Gpu Clock Tool works with the new Catalyst 10.3 driver and I was successfully able to change the clocks without having to flash. I don't know if this is something new or not, but just a note.

It also seems like 10.3 fixed the issue of the computer freezing when pulling the power cord. At least I don't have the issue any more.

Bleh.. I've been tinkering around with it and I think that the clocks reset after the laptop is restarted. Maybe there's a way to permanently set it, I dont know.

Since My R1 got stolen I'm having more and more quality time with my wife and kid aswell!
But I Only wished I just could say "I'm waiting to flash my BIOS on this pile of crap metal"...

Instead I'm still waiting/camping to order a new M17x-R2 as my insurance is slow with paying.

Guinea pig? Oink-oink-oink...They waste yours and their time by doing so and we all know this is only done to gain some time and make people abandon this issue out of tiredness...
I'd storm the tech support day after day until they help you.

What is it all about? All of a sudden all of you are returning or selling the systems, switching to ASUS, then telling us that ASUS isn't great as well.
What's wrong with the R2? You said it has the best screen ever, it's more future proof, more powerful than the R1. What's wrong? Some flickering with the extreme cpu, that's all?
