For the price that eBay auction is asking, you can get a good M15x!

That is funny $2200, who is crazy enough to buy it on that price, vs $813 and a month of waiting...

    There are 10.1", 10.2", 11.1", 11.6", 13.1", and 13.3".

I'm just saying: if you're so worried about .5" thickness I'd figure you would refer to the laptop more specifically.

You make no sense  What does an extra 1/2" of thickness have to do with typing commonly used abbreviations for screen sizes?

You seem very concerned about a thickness difference of .5" on the laptop. I figured that you would have the same amount of concern regarding the size of the laptop in general. It just seems silly that you would worry so much about .5" when you casually call the laptop an 11" and not an 11.6".

I don't mean to offend or anything, it just seems kind of weird that .5" would matter so much. You can tell from the videos that this laptop is somewhat bulky compared to a MacBook or Asus UL and Alienware has quite a history of making larger laptops.

Taken from the IGN review.. "We were disappointed to find that our initial impression that the M11x was capable of accessing an iPhone's 3G network via the WWAN port to be inaccurate, as iPhone network chips are device-specific unless unlocked. Still, the feature is noteworthy for those in need of go-anywhere internet connectivity."

Forgive me, I was a bit off with my info..so many forums posts and articles about this thing in the past few weeks I've lost track of what I've read and where I've read it :p

Not offended your just not making any sense LOL an extra 1/2" of thickness on notebooks that are generally around 1" thick these days is quite substantail. However it has nothing to do with abbreviating screen sizes. Anyways let's get back to discussing m11x shall we? :p

Yeah this IGN review seems to shove the blame off on the iPhone's "networks chips" being device-specific (which they aren't). I'm not entirely sure if you can unlock a SIM card because they aren't locked to begin with. But then they come back and say "Still, the feature is noteworthy for those in need of go-anywhere internet connectivity" as if the only thing wrong when they tested was that the used an iPhone SIM and not another AT&T SIM (are there even differences between the SIMs? My iPhone SIM doesn't have anything specific to the iPhone on it).

And it's no problem XD there's so much stuff to read about regarding the M11x that it's hard to keep track.

It depends on the carrier, you can get unlocked iphones on different carriers and they have normal sim cards in them that should work but it also depends on the port for the sim card. Like Apple is doing with the ipad, it takes some type of micro sim card so you can't plug your iphone sim card into it you have to purchase a plan with the carrier in order to get the required "micro sim card" sorry I don't remember the exact name.

It's basically just a way to force you to have to pay for 2 internet plans with the same carrier. It's BS as far as i'm concerned. That's why I will just tether to my Nexus One and only pay for one Internet plan ;) To heck with these greedy mobile carriers!

I think I have something in my head that makes sense but when I go to type it my hands don't follow suit :p And I agree, I need more M11x goodness.

The apps I will need to install when I get my M11x are...
    • an install of Windows 7 Ultimate, followed by...
    • Firefox
    • Thunderbird
    • Pidgin (for an AlienFX plugin that flashes the keyboard when you have a message)
    • Chrome
    • Every single game emulator I can get my hands on
    • iTunes (for my iPhone)
    • foobar2000
    • CCCP codec pack
    • every Steam game I can afford
    • and then Ubuntu 9.10

its not a killer deal, the drive is like $550 from newegg. The MSRP is like $400

Newegg normally has very good prices but for SSDs their game seems to be charge as much as humanly possible.

Ok so I am trying to change my order to include a customized nameplate (I somehow forgot to include that in my config) and the lady emailing me is asking for my credit card info. This is the email address she's sending from: [email protected]. Do you guys think this is safe, giving credit card info by email? She is saying that she needs to cancel my previous order and make a new one (but promised the old quote with discounts that I was given) and in order to do this she needs CC info...

has anybody read and noticed the battery life from the dell spec, i quote

"Life span (approximate) 300 discharge/charge cycles"

that means if i use it every single day the battery is going to last about a year....?

    Ref http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/Alw_lp_M11x/en/index.html

ive already ordered mine but this is annoying. means the battery will probably die after a years use. Question now is will it be cheaper to wait til it dies and send it off for a new battery installation or sign up to a two year warrenty ?

Anybody else annoyed by this ?

Careful EPP buyers, they now have a price-jacked-up version that you get linked to through the EPP site that starts out at almost $1200 lol.

You'll have to create your order in the regular site and then call an EPP rep.

    sneaky.

Is it possible for Dell to send you a "replacement" nameplate after you get the laptop? I know it was possible 2 years ago when Alienware used to operate on its own. (I got a replacement nameplate for my Area-51 m15x back then.)

ok so when i ordered the m11x all seemed fine until the next day when i tried to use my card in the petrol station the card had been blocked by the fraud squad. they told me when i called them that there has been a huge rise in fraud with dell going on
so my purchase flagged my card which insta blocked it and they just wanted to make sure it was me ordering before anymore money went out.

so could be a scam email trying to get your details either way i wouldnt ever send it over a email and im pretty sure dell wouldnt ask for all that over a email. better just to call and be on the safe side in my opinion.

on anouther note been looking at a gaming pad to go along with this anyone use one? i was looking at getting this

Also, any recommendations on bluetooth stereo headphones and would they work with the audio in an R1/R2?

omg omg omg I love when people ask this. plantronics 855 voyager

should be mega cheap on amazon, best bluetooth headphones ever made. you can unplug the right/left earbud and use it as one half of a stereo connection, making it so you can use headphones to listen to music both while driving or if you need the ability to hear external sounds. Then, you plug in the right/left bud and now you're shut off from the world.

Comes with like 5 different earbud pieces too for a customized size for your ear. I paid like 80 bucks for these more than a year ago, and i think theyre like $20 now.

lasts a long time on a battery charge considering how small they are.

great stereo bluetooth sound considering people say a2dp has bad quality.
