the lower clock speed = more battery time. they are pushing the fact it has a long battrey time rather than the fact it can be over clocked given the fact 90% of people looking to buy this machine will be pc enthusiast and will find out quickly it can be overclocked.... didnt take this forum long and its not even out yet!

So i think from a marketing view point its better to just have a longer battery life.

aliens dont use notebooks they use contacts with core i9 CPUs built into the contact. They moved on from notebooks a long time ago and melted the ones that could be better than the m11x down to core components due to resource problems on their homeworld.

They recently found a museum with a stockpile of their m11x laptop from the early 1600s and decided to sell them to earth at a low price because human dollars command a much higher price on their homeworld from collectors off of their greebay.warg auction grebsite.

max tdp is 10w, as comparison my entire 1000he netbook uses about 7w at lowest possible conditions (like browsing a previously cached website at very low brightness) so even with an overclock you're not going to get very far in terms of power draw. At least that's how I understand it.

Plus with 1.73ghz overclock and speedstep enabled you're not going to be using the whole 1.73ghz on both cores at all times, it'll usually be clocked less than 1ghz if you dont need it anyway.

    Agreed Eggs:

Given the fact that on the M11x there is no way (as we currently understand it) to over volt the CPU, and all your doing is increasing the frequency on the FSB, the power draw increase should be minimal, so it shouldn't impact battery life in any meaningful way.

From the HH review the TDP increase of the overclock only resulted in 1 degree of temp rise, a number well within the margin of error for on-board thermal diodes, I don't see heat as an issue either.

the description of the last doll lol
This beauty has stolen my heart and is one of my favourite spirits yet. Her doll vessel is absolutely stunning. The first time I seen her I almost decided to keep her for myself, her body is 100% made of porcelain including her torso. Her head can move all around, as well her legs and arms. We have seen her move her head from side to side by herself. In life her name was Beth. She was killed by a man, and didn’t have her father around he died when she was young. She is missing 2 fingers on one of her hands, I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the way she died. Those are the only details we know about her, but I just love her. Being around her u can feel how strong she is. It’s very important she goes to loving family.

hey, a bit off topic but i'm thinking about getting a decent but cheap ssd for my soon to be had m11x. I was looking at prices and stuff and I came across these two bad boys.

    pny 128gb ($367):
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...?EdpNo=4665162&csid=ITD&body=MAIN#detailspecs

    intel 160gb ($500):
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...?EdpNo=5250507&csid=ITD&body=MAIN#detailspecs

I was wondering which of the two would be the better buy, or if there is another option out there that I may overlooked? I've owned pny flash drives and found them to be pretty decent but I have no idea about the quality of thier ssd's. also do ssd's differ in read speeds or is it pretty uniform throughout all the major brands?

For a laptop I would get this one:
    http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Desk...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265411346&sr=8-2

I have a supertalent illidenix or what ever it is, for my desktop but i see no reason to drop 400 bucks+ for a similiar size (equal in my case) drive that will go in a laptop.

Can you get the 160GB HDD option on the main site? I would suggest making the laptop build on Dell's main AU site and then calling in for the student discount. It seems like Dell took down all the base component builds for EPP members but they're still available if you call in.

NO no no no no no no. no no. no.

The only drives worth buying are intel or ocz. Look at my post history, I recently had a huge diatribe about how bad even the third place contender was, samsung. You dont want any lower than that, thats for sure.

I lucked out a few days ago, I bought a 160gb intel G1 for $300 (the going price nowadays) but do yourself a favor, if you get an intel G2 get one from ebay, with bing cashback, on either of these two buy-it-now-s and youll get it for less than $400. You're welcome (or not, if you despise ebay I guess :) )

According to sheltem's post, a handful of months. I would just get a 7200 RPM drive to tide you over until the prices for SSDs come down. In fact, I think I might pick one up right now! All of the games I'll be downloading will need as much space as possible.

ahhhh....i cant leave this thread for more than an hour, or else the misinformation about SSDs rears it's ugly head.

If you use anything other than an indilinx drive or intel, you're either using a samsung or worse, jmicron. Please, please please never suggest to someone that they buy a jmicron, Barrok...they'll hate you for the rest of your life.

Jmicrons have extreme stuttering issues, that make it even worse than a platter HDD after some time. You'll barely be able to use your computer without wanting to throw it out the window.

The samsung's are not much better, just they dont stutter. You're paying 2-3 times more than a platter HDD, cutting the storage space in half and all you get is mildly decreased temps and power drain and no seek noise. Oh, and copying huge videos to and from the drive is fast, big whoop. Wanna spend the money on that be my guest, seriously if that's worth it then its made for you.

Otherwise, spend less money on an ocz or intel and see the future of computing at its best.

Plus, dont wait for the new drives to come out, these are more than good enough as it is and guess what? Newegg's gonna have them first and THEYRE GONNA CHARGE $200 OR MORE THAN MSRP. Good luck getting them at a reasonable price but hey, wanna take the gamble, again right up your alley!

I really dont suggest you or anybody should be that optimistic about the 25nm intels. It's been several several months since intel released the 34nm and the prices havent come down. Even the prices for the old version intels have stayed the same. every retailer sells the OCZ drives for way more than they're worth given the intels, because they dont want to sell things at a loss, they bought these drives for more than $350 so you bet your rump they arent going to give them to you for any less. They required OCZ give a mailm in rebate to get the price down below $350 as it is.

SSDs for some crazy reason dont follow the laws of the market, its probably because they are popular even at their exorbitant prices.

ILL SAY IT AGAIN, you're going to have to wait a loooooooooooooooong time after the intel G3 launch to get one for a reasonable price. You want a 160GB for $550? you can get that now at newegg and theyll even give you a crappy 40gb as a present (which works out to buying both at a still barely reasonable price, not getting one for free: $150 for 40gb and $400 for 160gb)

Mark my words, intel will release 160GB G3s at an msrp of $230 and everyone will crap their pants, and the next day newegg will have a preorder price of something like $450+.

oh and sandforce? The newest contender for intel? They're currently $230 for 50gb (hahahahahahahaha) and will be for some time. On purpose. The costs are that high for them apparently, and they ain't getting lower anytime soon.

It's the curse of early adopters ;) we need to gamble. I'm going to wait, though, because I want cheaper prices for something like a 256GB. I never turn my computer off so boot times are meaningless and I'm currently typing from a 320GB 5400 RPM and this baby has worked for me for a long time. A 7200 RPM would be a cheap upgrade while I wait for 256GB to be less than a new netbook. :p

edit lol nm it was about shipping dates

i dont think darkhan is an alienware rep, i think he is a reseller, he was talking about getting the pre-production stuff and it seemed like he was able to because of selling the units.

I think people may have been confusing him with nagshead, the alienware employee lurking this thread.

by the way, everyone's status is still pre-production which means until the status actually says its being kitted or built, the dell estimates are dead on. once the chinese new year comes up, nothings going to even happen for two weeks, which places us at about march time.

The screen is one of the most vibrant crisp screens I have seen, you will not be let down!

From a 13.3 to the 11, ye you will notice a little difference but not enough to make you hate it.

To me it feels and looks just like an M17X just 30% smaller and a better screen.
