yes im from the uk. first they told me it was in production and now my order says pre prduction while my online order status says work in progress.
lol i think they are upset about the price i got it at.
su7300,4gb ram 500gb hd i think that was our only options. so with delivery it came to £749.01
the next day the base price started £749.00![]()
guess i will just have to wait like the rest of the world lol

Ok decided on a bag: http://www.amazon.com/Incase-CL55197-Medium-Messenger-MacBook/dp/B002SWJR7U
I saw it at best buy, it's really well made and will fit all of my school books too.
Now I need to decide on a good bluetooth mouse.
And oh yeah...I'm in the build stage!!!
Now time to go watch Chelsea vs Arsenal (hopefully there aren't more than 20 pages of reading for me to catch up on when I return lol).

Configure your laptop the way you want, then call up the EPP phone number and have them apply the discount.

When it comes to my birthday in two months I MIGHT be able to get an M11x but it'll need a lot of discount. As in, I'll need to get the price down from £750 to £500. That'll take a lot of haggling over the phone I tend to think, although I could simply point out that the base price in America converts to £512...
Well, it's either this or an iPad so I might as well give it a shot when it comes to it. HOPEFULLY they might have even dropped the price by then. -
Good luck with the haggling; I don't think they can haggle down too far, though. Try applying the Dell EPP discount to your order and see what coupons are available at the time. You might get it down pretty far. Then the Dell rep could add a £25 or £50 discount if you're very nice. This is ordering advice provided by DR650SE which is very helpful.

Just looking at this it is clear the i5 does almost nothing for gaming. The Alienware M11X reviews cited higher FPS on games like Mass effect 2. Hopefully this will help to finally put to rest the whole "Cpu is bottleneck" issue. It obviously is the graphics card that is the bottleneck to most all games, as the M11X performed better than that much faster i5 CPU.
-
Problem is the fact that I'm in the Middle East. Not quite sure that they'll apply EPP out here. (Ordering to a UK address though, provided I do order it)
My key argument will be that base price in the US is £512...I don't mind even taking the base 160GB hard drive to get it down, that's plenty for me. -
Whoa! $90?! For a messenger bag? This thing better have a satellite phone and GPS built-in. Get this instead.
-
If you can get ahold of a valid school ID (from a friend or something) then you'll be fine. All you have to say is that you're on vacation when you order it and you're ordering it to your house.
But Dell doesn't really care that the base price in the US is lower when converted than in the UK. I would stick with finding Dell coupons and EPP deals when you order and maybe if the Dell rep isn't giving you an additional discount, just mention the price difference in the US. They might get a hint that you're willing to cancel this order and order from the US and be more inclined to help you out. -
Has the Battlefield Bad Company 2 DEMO been benchmarked on the m11x?
-
I work in finance and for everybody who simple converts USD to GDP is incorrect. This is NOT how business is done around the world. Companies ALWAYS have to take into account the following when setting prices in different countrys:
1:Interest Rate Differentials
2:Forward foreign exchange contacts - (big companies buy in bulk so set the FX(foreign exchange) rate for that contact at the beginning of a week/month/quarter/year or what ever the companies financial advisers tell them is best for them for the bulk buy.
I could easly go on ... never think its as simple as just doing an FX calculation at the time you buy. Its simple not

im from uk how did u get it so cheap
voucher codes? -
ashodd is right. Plus the cost of doing business can vary by region. There's an entire service process that comes along with these products.
btw, I can play WoW in 1080p on my 52 inch screen with no problems on this thing. -
Sorry you are getting me worried now as im from the Uk to lol. What do you mean your order says pre production? are you using something different o check the status or something?
-
Awesome!
Thank you for verifying. -
Thats the same price i paid for the same spec and im from the UK... though i say UK loosely ... i live in the channel islands. VAT free land. hehe
-
I'm well aware of that, however the pricing in the UK still seems to be far, far higher than what it should be. I mean, the base price is well over $1000 in the UK.
Nevertheless, I have the ability to order from the US as well. I have a US postbox (same service as my postbox in the UK, which I'd be ordering to if I bought it in the UK) so the only hurdle for a US order is a US phone number which I could quite easily get a forwarding number for.
This basically means that I'm giving Dell UK the option for me to order from them, but only if I can get it for as cheap (or better yet, even cheaper) than it is in the US, otherwise I'd order from the US.
Either way I'm not likely to order it; I'm just too tight for money, I'm likely going to get an iPad instead. I'm still ever hopeful however. -
I'm going to love playing FFXI/FFXIV on my HDTV.
-
Can anyone compile a list of the reviews. All I have been able to find are first-looks.
-
Am just wondering if it is normal for the order status to show N/A on shipping and billing info?
-
GeeGee Go to page 1 of this thread, all the reviews, video reviews and other information has been compiled there.

Hardwareheaven.com review - this is pretty much the only one you'll need. It incorrectly states that the processor overclocks to 1.6GHz, though: it really overclocks to 1.73GHz.
The first post of this thread has a list of reviews and videos. -
This is the saddest thing I've heard in this entire thread, including the part about not being able to use iPhone SIMs with Gobi.
-
I will, once the beta actually starts
I got accepted months agoooooo.
-
They have a cpu-z which shows 1.6GHz. You sure it's 1.73GHz?
-
i ordered it before it went up on the dell uk website from a link posted in this forum . the next day the same spec had gone up around £200 more
i have confirmed the order with dell who told me it was in production and now the automated phone message says its in pre production while the website says work in progress.
i was checking my order by phone and also by the dell website
dell customer service 08444444712 option 3 option 1 option 1 then your order number followed by the # key -
I believe nagshead confirmed and a couple of other posters did the math that it really is 1.73GHz (6x multiplier). Not sure why CPU-Z shows 1.6GHz though.
-
will it be long until they have a m11x with directx11?
-
mine is still work in progress, i ordered friday morning at 06:33! ( on nights
)
still in work in progress due 25/2
but TBH i have ordered alot of stuff from dell UK and never seen any thing done at the weekend , the best ive seen is shipping on a sunday , guess only the US dell work 24/7,
but i do have the peeps on this thread to thank, ive been on 12 hour nights this weekend and its flown!!!! by wonder why
-
Thanks mate
, Mine says the same as yours on the phone hehe, so maybe there is alittle bit of home for our ETA's
im gonna cry if it doesnt come thursday lol
-
lucky guy vat free
-
Probably. There are barely any games that support DirectX11 right now and since the M11x supports 10.1, I doubt it will be in the next refresh.
-
If you know then you should know the different between exchange rates and REAL exchange rates and things like Purcahsing power parity.
The calculation to find out the real exchange rate is as follows:
(UK Price/US Price)x(US$/£) = (749/799)x(1.564/1) = 1.466. ignoring the 1 there is a 46% different between the UK price and the US price.
Doing a normal exchange rate calculation is 478/1.546 = £479. Then add on your 46% or £220. this leaves you with a REAL exchange rate difference at $700.
This means we actually get it $99 cheaper in the UK. however this excludes all of the forward contacts and interest rate differentials, or any of the other things that have to be taken into account.
Ref - http://www.tcmb.gov.tr/research/work/wpaper9.pdf -
Looks like a 6.5x multi is needed for 1.73.
-
Hey, can any1 tell me how well the M11x will/is expected to run RTS games such as Empire total war?
I ordered mine on Thursday, ETA is 25/2 and I live in the UK. Cant wait
-
?????????????????????????
-
Yeah whatever.
It's buried somewhere in this thread, let me see if I can find it.
Edit: here is one post. I can't find the others but that's the gist. -
US AW site says a 3d mark 06 score of 6100
ref - http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/alienware-m11x?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn -
Could you comment on the screen nagshead? Things like black levels, contrast ratio, color vibrancy, viewing angles, etc?
-
What should i buy for warranty? the Advance Warranty in dell is $179 (including basic and accidental damage)for 3 years. The squaretrade for accident warranty is around 250$... so should i buy dell warranty?
-
so the CPU is really a bottleneck, because this Samsung with a core i5 520M (2,4 - 2,93ghz) and a GT 330M scores 7160 in 3dmark06, and that's a huge difference...
http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/review-test-samsung-r580-aura-hawk-nkrt-1096/3
I guess VAIO Z series is the one to go, even having to pay an extra... -
Synthetic gaming benchmarks aren't reliable. Don't base your purchase on 3Dmark06, you need to get actual benchmarks from actual games.
Try looking up the reviews that IGN and Hardwareheaven.com have done. -
If you've got the money it's definitely the way to go with i7 the Z will be even faster but it's hard to pass up the 11x being so cheap. I hope I don't end up with buyers remorse LOL.
-
Take a look at the link provided. They also benchmark the RTS World in Conflict at 1024x768, unsure of the setting because i cant read german. but fps shows 29
that is very disappointing. Could mean Starcraft 2 will struggle.. on our m11x..
-
3DMark06 is kind of outdated now. If you want gaming benchmarks nowadays, use Vantage and do a performance test which is less CPU dependent or hell use a Crysis benchmark and that's pretty good for use too.
Also above, the core i5-520m is a very good processor, so of course it will score fairly high paired with a 330m... the i5-520m is basically as good as a P9700 2.8Ghz C2D in benchmarks. So ask yourself what's more important to you? Smaller form factor or not? -
But, yes, you are right......
This computer does have a bottle neck, like every computer in this world, and this computers bottle neck is the cpu... other computer have gpu bottlenecks...
crazy huh? -
didnt see it only had 330m - i stand corrected. We have 24 more graphics processor cores ! mwhahaha
-
Glad I could rejuvenate your spirits.
-
It could be CPU, no one knows what the CPU clock speed (1.3 GHz or 1.73 GHz) was set to when AW ran 3dmark. It could also be the clock speed of the GPU/RAM. We won't know for sure until someone has a chance to check it out.
