Mate, here is the definition of volume for you: "The amount of space occupied by a three-dimensional object or region of space" You can create whatever scenario you want but it doesn't change the fact your wrong. I don't understand why this is always such an argument with you. I am going to add you to ignore list. No offense but I just don't want to get in trouble here and it seems as if you are always trying to incite arguments with me. So I have no other choice.
Cheers.

By the definition you gave, you're also wrong so I don't see how this helps.
It's "such an argument" because you come into an M11x thread and say how much better the Z is (while giving blatantly bad/wrong reasons).
But please add me to your ignore list. I'd rather not have to stress myself explaining something so simple every time you decide to troll. -
haha are we trying to figure out the volume for a geometry class? or are we applying the damn size to REAL WORLD applications i.e. sticking it in a compartment! i think everyone on this board knows the meaning of volume and you dont need to be insulting anyone just because of your biased opinions towards a slightly better laptop that is over double the price. go ahead and block him, that what most cowards do, hide from and opinion that threatens their own
-
Only if your doing huge File transfers from a home server, or another machine, otherwise your right the point is moot.
-
Oh no I was seriously asking if it mattered. XD I thought maybe it helped the connection somehow.
-
No. It is a US number.
-
It's fun when everyone tries to down play other things when some people just have certain criteria in the purchases they want filled. Does everyone need to drive a murcielago? Can't some people get minivans and some people econobox cars?
The m11x pretty much satisfies my needs for the price it costs. No buyers remorse here. Unless the thing splits in half as soon as I take it out of the packaging ha ha. Shrug. -
Try setting up Windows Home Server, then you'll want Gigabit ethernet. I have 3TB of files stored on my server, including PC backups, movies, music, game patches and add-ons, etc. This also reduces the size drive you need for your desktop(s) and laptop(s). I'd much rather transfer huge files over gigabit than pokey 100Mbps or 54Mbps 11G. Once you get a network setup, it's hard to think how you got along without it. Same with Gigabit ethernet. I wouldn't NOT get this laptop solely because of it but I wouldn't say it isn't useful or desired by most.
-
I don't mind people comparing the M11x to other machines. It's good to know what's out there. Competition is good. I think what annoys me and others is to compare the M11x to a machine that is over 2X the cost and pretend cost plays no part in the appeal of the M11x. It would like if you have a Mini Cooper on order and someone jumps in to tell you that you could have done better with a Porsche or BMW. Never mind the fact they are twice as expensive.
-
No it really makes no difference, Ethernet is Ethernet, just a transfer speed thing. If all your doing is using it for online games and surfing the web, gigabit gives you no benefit over 100mbps ethernet. The limiting factor is your internet connection. Mine is 50mbps, so faster is better but the wireless on this lappy should do 350mpbs Wireless N.
-
The new Z i'm sure is a gorgeous computer, but it isn't similarly priced, they really shouldn't be compared. And nitpicking about volume? How old are you people?
-
i find this humorous, even though he looked it up in the dictionary he's still wrong. the m11x still has a smaller volume..... troll=slain
-
Don't trolls regenerate though? Lol.

And just to settle the entire 3dMark06 shenanigans. I just ran 3 runs on 3dMark06 on my desktop
Config:
Intel QX9650 Quad Core Processor
3GB of RAM (1GB died on me earlier in the year
)
ATI 4870X2
The 3 runs tested two different things:
Run 1:
3.6GHz CPU clock
800Mhz/800MHz GPU clock
Score: 19402
Run 2:
3.6GHz CPU clock
600Mhz/800Mhz GPU clock (core downclocked 25%)
Score: 18768
Run 3:
2.7GHz CPU clock (core downclocked 25%)
800Mhz/800Mhz GPU clock
Score: 15078
Is there any doubt now? I downclocked my GPU by 25% and the score went down from 19402 to 18768 - a whole 3.3%
I downclocked my CPU by 25% and the score went down from 19402 to 15078.. a whole 22.3%
Fact is, 3dMark06 at default settings is incredibly CPU bound, meaning that differences in CPU power will disproportionately affect its scores from actual real-world GPU performance
And now for the Super Bowl -
Like the Hydra.

I haven't even seen you post anything of substance and you are calling Ceowulf a troll? Looks like you are the troll!
-
lol Everyone forgets the L.
-
Yes, i'm biased toward the Sony, that is why I ordered an m11x

anyone have a recommended cooler for this ?

alright I'll play ball. I'm going to treat the vaio as a little less than a straight triangle from the back to the front. 33% of the way will be 1.3" and the rest of the 66% will be triangular from 1.3" to 1".
So yeah, with the height difference from back to front, it takes up less volume. Only thing is, you have to make a choice between spending $800 base for an ultraportable or would you instead prefer to pay an extra $1000 base for less than 10 cubic inches smaller, ermm, airprint? (not really "footprint")
I should mention that by drawing the z as I did was very forgiving, it will most likely have a much smaller amount of area that is less than 1.3" in height. -
I like this one, even though it is a bit expensive... made of aluminum not plastic!
here -
Yes that is true, never really setup any wired networks so haven't had a use for it. most everything I transfer I do over my wifi network. It is just more convenient for me.

Holy Crap Eggs!! ROFLMAO.. High school Geometry is in session... Oh NO you diint.. HEHE

this isnt geometry class? Oh crap look at all that time I spent, I thought I was being graded on my maths ability.

SHHH don't let the mods know my secret of defusing arguments with math
-
It was just a simple comment...read the original post. I don't know why I always let this guy entice me into arguments over stupid things that is why I blocked him because this always happens. Anyway this was the post that he was replying to for everyone that didn't read it.
I even said in the post the price is the reason I didn't buy it. It's just a simple comment don't understand why it always gets blown so out of proportion. -

No I know, I was just pointing it out is all that the size difference should be negligible. I just like doing math
(I graduated with a math degree)

As a side note, this is now what I imagine when I see internet arguments

Just bought this cooler for $20. It's aluminum; and you can move the fans around.

Looks like a really nice Cooler. I think ill probably hold off till I get my M11x in hand and see if one is needed. Where did you find it for 20 bucks?
-
I think that is basically how all M11x owners are feeling about now when they check and see the ship date is till 3-1-10 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
-
LOL The waiting is the hardest part. Really want to play with the 11x already.
-
Yeah that's what I was thinking; the way this thing is designed seems to scream heat dissipation.
Anyone have recommendations for game controllers? I'm totally going to put some emulators on this thing when I get it and I'd love to be able to play every FF game with a gamepad. -
i just use the 360 controller ! works great with FF7!
-
Agreed. I use the 360 controller sometimes when I play Madden 08 and other old classics. Shooters I just use mouse/keyboard.
-
I use a USB converter to use my old PSOne Dualshocks. Works like a charm, just no forcefeedback.
-
the average corded 360 controller is a good gamepad
-
The Z is my dream machine, so sue me LOL I am still m11x owner!
-
Whoa I never even thought of that. I have a PS2 controller that has the R2 and L2 buttons set down lower so it's more comfortable... maybe I should just get a USB converter.
And everyone else recommending the 360 controller: are there any 3rd party controllers for the 360 and, if so, would they work as well? I'm not really a fan of the ergonomics of the standard 360 pad. -
Got the converter from a friend cause he had another which could fit two Dualshocks at one go ergo sports games on PC played with 2 players.
Even has a memory card slot, don't know what you might want to do with those though...
@blue = My dream machine is a Space Station. Sue me first. XP And cheers, here's ya milk. XP -
Wonders where everyone else has gone off to... Lol, am waiting to besiege a Dell rep in an hour or so.

get a ps3 controller and hook it up via usb. It works perfectly with the sixaxis driver and you get a much better dpad than a xbox 360 controller.

superbowl, yo. -
You have just saved my life. Thanks.
-
I got be honest, IM a big fan of the PS3 but prefer the 360 controller,
i use a wireless 360 pad with my PC with driving games etc and it will be getting used on my MX11 as well
-
Folks, moving forward, any troll style posts or flame baiting will result in temp vacations from NBR. Any further discussions on dimensions of one machine vs. another or any other matter needs to be conducted without back and forth bickering. Realize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and leave it at that.
Thanks. -

Are somewhat off-topic discussions of stuff in computers (like the whole SSD thing) and civil discussion of computer differences still allowed?
Apologies if my posts in the topic have been particularly troll-like.
-
As I mentioned before - discussion of components as they relate to the M11x is not an issue. Talking about the weather (as an example) for 3 pages is obviously not something we want in the Owner's Lounge thread - why we have a Side Topics subforum.

Thanks for the clarification BatBoy.
also, whoever posted the notepal U2, the notepal infinity is supposed to be a significant improvement.
Newegg has open box ones for like $21 which I would've jumped on but I needed it shipped to a different address so I went with Amazon for $30 of something. It has the fan intake on the back which helps the airflow if you're used to having the notebook actually in your lap. -
Is it better than the NZXT posted earlier. The NZXT does look a bit cooler, but in terms of function, any difference?
