It's very difficult for me to feel or get a sense of how big this machine actually is.

    1) I heard it was created with an A4 paper in mind, and that two DVD Boxes laying next to each other could fill out it's footprint. But it looks like it's curved grills, and it's battery that sticks out the box suggets otherwise.

2)The M11X looks very Obese. When I look at it, it looks like my 13''.

Does anybody have pictures were it's laying next to a 12'' or 13'' for comparrison? It's bezel looks quite big.

I am just wondering if it will be small enough if I want to have something smaller yet powerful from my current 13''.

EDIT: Also do you think there is a size difference between the UL30 Asus and M11X? Since the first one is 13'' and has a slip less than a n inch profile with no DVD drive too... Will M11X still be significantly smaller when the screen is two inches less?

Agreed - folks, please start posting all order status related posts in the order status thread. I've noticed several of these here and not in the order status thread (This will help a little bit).

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=456131

Please pass the word on as many will miss this.

    Thanks.

    http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/...28/a-brief-history-of-the-alienware-m11x.aspx

Vid on the site had the m11x compared to a PC Gamer mag and is placed next to its bigger brothers too.

And yes. it is a very big device for 11" but being slim wasn't part of its marketing campaign, was it?

    Thank you.

So what are the chances that Core i7 will be a CPU Possibility in M11X in the future? And when?

The problem is that the games I like to play(TF2, CSS, HL2, WoW, MMOs, GTA4 and so on) are much more CPU dependant than GPU dependant.

I've heard that Core i7 for Notebooks will have the same power consumption as the CULV... So what are they waiting for?? go go go?

Darky here said sometime in Aug/Oct, but as many have said, the performance diff isn't all that big (about 10%-20% methinks IF I have not read wrongly) since the ULV iX cores are seriously nerfed anyway. Normal iX cores chug up much much more power than their ULV brothers. And Dell claims among the games the m11x can run smoothly, GTA4 is one of them. As for them not using the iX, heat and cost could be the main issues, nobody really knows.

EDIT: one of the retailers around here said he's run WoW on the m11x outputting at 1080p reso so Wow would be a non issue as well.

    Woot.

Just picked up a second 128 gig G.Skill Falcon SSD (Indilinx controller) for US$ 200.

    Couldn't justify US$ 400 for the 2nd gen Intel X25-M 160.

It will see duty in my soon to be ordered M11x. Oh yes.

@Eggs - how do you think the first gen Indilinx controller fairs against the 2nd Gen Intel's, dollar for dollar ?

I'm guessing that the M11X build is similiar to the M17X where the top is allminum or magniesian, but the bottom is plastic. The hinges will likely not be an issue, and it will be the same plastic as the M17X. I just hope the touchpad doesn't have the same texture as the M17X, although it's not that bad once you get use to it. I just hope touchpad drivers are better then M17X and the arrow isn't real laggy.

at that price you definitely made the right decision.

Only question is whether or not an extra 32 gigs of better utilized space in an intel G1 wouldve been worth another $100, if not then again, you made the right decision.

indilinx drives are good, it's just that intels are better. I'd rather pay $100 less for good in some instances though rather than shell out for better.

Nope, a trusted source said by then, and we trust em. Speculate all you like but when an insider we trust says so, he's usually right. He called the release date down to the day.

New GPU... Nobody's complaining about the GT335 being "un-enough" yet so I can't see why they should change it unless DX11 becomes standard. Not anytime soon

13'' very unlikely. It would be too close to the M15X in terms of form factor.

    Awesome. Thanks for the reply.

Is the intel g1 still better than the Indilinx's with the latest FW's?

I'm ignoring Sequential R/W here, as I know with regular wiping that's where the Falcon is insanely fast, but thought it would have the edge on the intel g1 SSD's for random I/O's and 4k R/W.

I suspect I may turn this Falcon into a Vertex with their latest TRIM firmware which seems to be quite good (considering the drives are identical sans label on the outside)

Always like getting something for a great price, nevertheless. :)

i've read somewhere that the Alien Fusion will not work anymore once you have your HDD wiped out. anyway, it might still be due to its incompatibility with Win 7.

The bloatware on there is apparently minimal anyways so a format isnt really necessary. Plus, it will come with restore dvds anyway so if you do wipe it then you can restore it to how it was from the facory..

Okay - here's another question to debate:

I believe the Qualcomm gobi card option makes use of the QC MDM1000 chipset which does not appear to support HSPA+ speeds of 21mbps.

In South Africa, the mobile carriers are launching HSPA+ network upgrades in time for the world cup and speeds have recently been tested and seem to offer excellent bandwidth and throughput, averaging out at around 15mbps depending on proximity to the cell towers, with excellent on network ping times of 20-30ms, which they will be pushing for mobile gaming.

Firstly, if you don't go with the gobi option it appears no antenna is pre-installed, so I guess that's a prerequisite for true mobility and connectivity on the go.

Secondly, does anybody know if another type of wireless card can be fitted in place of the gobi module. My research doesn't sound to promising at this stage.

Guess an external USB tethered offering from Huawei with HSPA+ support may be the next best option.

    /sigh

Exactly. The 335m is waiting on the SU7300 and (example) the i5 in the CW27X is waiting on the 330m.

Perfect match seems to be opposite of what each has. 335 seems overkill for the M11x and the 330 is underkill for the CW27X. Ironic.

Note I put "seems" for the 335m, since some games actually leverage the physics function on the GPU. Games that use the GPU for this function do not need the cpu as much. Big win for the M11x with those games.

A little DIY might be needed if you really dislike a USB modem sticking out from your m11x everytime you use mobile bband, but if you don't relish "undressing" your pc, then that would be your only choice.
