FML! What discounts are still available for stacking? With the 10% and the $50 discount from redoing it on the main dell website it came out to $1,100.70(including $90 for taxes).

 

@LoganH91 only the $50 works anymore and the $100 off stopped stacking Feb 3rd. I think they caught on

From the little reviews posted so far I haven't seen sound meter readings?

Love to see sound meter readings taken for 1) idle 2) video playback & 3) gaming from a standard distance for:

Chipset graphics & default CPU (1.3ghz)

Chipset graphics & CPU OC'd (1.73ghz)

GT 335M & default CPU (1.3ghz)

GT 335M & CPU OC'd (1.73ghz)

 

I might cancel and reorder...and that $1,100 was with a 320gb HDD. I plan to sometime down the road replace with a SSD.

 

Yeah that's about as good as it gets for the next few months I am guessing. You can probably call and get the 3% DPA on top of the 10% and 50$ but that is about it.

 

What is DPA if you do not mind me asking?

 

Dell preferred account, it is like a dell credit card giving you either 3% off or no interest for 12months.

 

Oh ok. Yeah i applied for that...seeing as how i just turned 19 and have 0 credit...absolutely nothing...i got denied...i have gotten denied at Kohl's, mattress firm...just about everywhere. I would have preferred to make payments on it to build my credit and just so i wouldnt have to fork $1300 all at once. But on second thought i am just gonna keep it there, I am paying $100 more for 180 extra gigs of HDD...just means more videos and more space for college. Lol. And don't want my order pushed back any further >.<

I have my woodforest bank card. It's a mastercard. But last i checked/asked it doesnt show up on my credit? Last time i looked i had nothing on my credit.

 

I have a feeling it would be useless, as I'd need to repost the same thing over and over page after page since most people don't want to go back about 1000 pages to get to my notes.

Suffice it to say the intels and indilinx are the only ones really worth the money, in comparison the samsung and others are like if you imagine a new platter drive that has extremely large cache and/or heat efficiency and/or silent operation etc. The intels and the indilinx are more like seeing into the future whereas its as if western digital or seagate or another platter-based HDD king came out with some minor improvements that make them slightly better than old platters and charge a lot of moolah for them.

This is just my opinion but given the choice between a 500GB platter and a samsung, I'd pocket the difference and go for the 500GB, but then again I have several SSDs so I'm biased because I know what its like to switch between a samsung and an intel.

 

Okay last post because I think this is useful for everyone and then we get back on topic: if it's a debit card, it won't build up credit. It also takes about a year for your credit card to start having an effect on your credit report.

 

Would it be possible/allowed to make a thread dedicated to M11X gaming benchmark requests?

I have a list of games that I would like to see how performance is on the M11X...

 

@silver =probably in a year or two, then optimus might end up being standard. For now its a 1st gen thing so... might go buggy on us.

@luffytubby: not really necessary yet, nobody has received them. We could collate all the stuff known so far but I think it would be much more fruitful to wait for someone like me and anyone else who got an su7300 to do serious, exactly the same benchmarks and see what the results are.

I personally plan to bench the living crap out of mine when I get it, and I'll be taking requests.

Yes. I will be creating a thread for this purpose (benching results and discussion on tweaking) - similar to the M15x, M17x threads we already have in place.

That statement is both true and false (this is coming from me ... a guy who used to work at Experian, one of the three national credit bureaus, in a former life/career path).

Debit card activity doesn't show up on your credit UNLESS you overdraft your account and your bank reports the overdraft. So, you're correct that "it won't build up credit" but it can negatively impact your credit score if you overdraft and your bank reports it. The same goes with bank checking accounts ... they don't build up your credit, but if you overdraft your account and you owe the bank money for a while it can hurt your credit score if the bank reports the overdraft.

Second, the statement that "it takes about a year for your credit card to start having an effect on your credit report" is likewise true and false. You need to have about a year of good payment activity on your credit card before that activity has a positive impact on your credit score, but if you constantly miss payments and owe the credit card company money they can report that and it can have a NEGATIVE impact on your credit score in a matter of months ... if the credit card company is correctly reporting their data to the bureaus.

PS: Don't PM asking for credit advice because I don't work for a credit bureau any more and I hated that job, but I wanted to chime in on the off chance that an irresponsible reader sees that earlier comment and thinks bad activity on a debit card or credit card won't impact their credit for a year (or at all).

@nuke: me? Honestly if I were going to start a thread like that I'd probably want mod approval beforehand since there's no way to benchmark it yet aside from what IGN and HH said already. Plus, I'd like to be the topic starter anyways so I can edit the first post after I do my fifteen gabillion benchmarks, I'd rather not have to run my results by some third party for approval unless it was a mod.

I too will be benchmarking mine off and on doing other random things when I get my laptop in. I'll be curious to see how the SU4100 OC'd compares to the SU7300 OC'd. Maybe when a benchmark thread does come around we can have standards on which to compare in game, like use certains maps, for a certain period and similar application to use so we can get figures we can compare that would be fair. For programs that have actual benchmark programs then no need I suppose =)

I will be able to benchmark the following games for sure:
Dragon Age Origins, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Company of Heroes, Call of Duty MW2, Bioshock 2, Warhammer DoW II, Stalker SOC w/ 2009 Complete Mod. Maybe HL2Ep2 or TF2 and Mirrors Edge if anyone is curious enough.

 

im just curious on the temps, and if the AWSD keys will be hot underneith! i hate it when that happens in gaming laptops

Thanks for the added information regarding my post. I actually didn't know about overdraft affecting credit because every time I've overdraft I've paid it off as soon as it happened (so the bank never reported it). But one could assume that owing a bank any money would have a negative impact on your credit.

if you could benchmark mirrors edge that would be wonderful! I practice parkour myself...do you know of anyway i will be able to get a digital download of my mirrros edge(i already have the cd) for my m11x without paying money again?

 

@Adrian890 The keyboard does not get hot or warm for that matter the only place we have felt any warmth was on the left side of the touchpad. But again it was only warm, not hot!
Possible coming from the hard drive? It was not enough to raise a flag about.

@nuke I'm probably just going to do stock cooling because I don't think it helps out the average consumer to know how they can pimp out their new laptop to handle higher OC, as much as it may even help I wouldn't want to be responsible for people who dont know how to properly mod the laptop screwing it up and voiding their warranty.

really sucks I'm downloading Bioshock 2 right now from Steam but I won't be able to play it until I get the M11x in, sad sad.

In terms of a screen protector due to edge2edge, I'll have the kabuto mouse pad I ordered along with the Orochi. oh so perfect.

Thanks! Be sure to not get the 11inch version. Since the screen is flush with the frame, you need one that will cover the entire screen. Of course, if you don't care about looks, go ahead and order the 11inch
