I asked this question earlier, but no response.
Does anyone know if you lose the alienware login screen if you upgrade to ultimate. I might need Win 7 virtual mode in the future and its too late too cancel my order and reorder, plus i would lose my coupons. -
That silver does look sexy. But at about 2:40 the cameraman asks if you can adjust different sections of the keyboard lighting and the guy says that you can. Very strange. I guess no one knew the exact specs of this thing until after it was released on Dell's site.
-
Yeh, in all the videos i watch half of what the people are saying is wrong.
Also besides the separate lighting keyboard mistake, they say the resolution is 1280x720 at 4min30sec..
ps. the only reason i picked black over silver was because i didn't like the alien head symbol on the back of the silver version. I dont know what color i like more now though. -
@B_G = I've asked but was shouted down. But ceol said he would experiment and let you know.
-
hmm word is that a i5+330m outpreforms the su7300+335m is there truth in this?
-
Its too complicated to be summarized so easily like that.
-
@mighty- outpreform in what way
-
3dmark vantage or 06, ingame preformance...etc
-
i hope its not true cuz my m11x is coming 3/4
-
I don't think this is going to be all it's cracked up to be - check out this dell video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1BdWINKHuk&feature=related
You can clearly see that FPS is around 15 - 22 when the action kicks in. -
Where's Darkyyyy?
i wants moar m11x info. -
@contactluke- i wonder why, most reviewers were playing L4D2 at max settings with not AA and reported averaging 40 fps.
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews.php?reviewid=924&pageid=15
ps. HH tests on the most cpu/gpu intense part too.
i guess the people in the dell vid had some very intense settings on or something. -
As soon as I get mine this is what I'll spend probably the first few days doing, running 3DMark06 and Vantage. Trying to see just how high I can overclock the GPU before I finally start crashing the display driver. Even then I'll push a little more, just to see how high I can score. Was bored lastnight and so I was OCing the GPU in my inspiron 1720. OCed pretty well for 3DMark06, and it's not nearly as good as the GPU in the M11X. I'd expect to probably break 7K 3DMark06 at the very least. Goal might be 7500. But we'll have to see when I get it.
-
@contact = we've seen, analysed and argued over that vid eons ago, so lets leave that by the sidewalk.
@mighty = that's just a benchmark much like a graded mark in school. Its real-game performance that matters (IMO) and we will have to wait until people get the machine then we will know how it performs. -
@ Dan = Lets make it a race. First to void their warranty wins! Eggsy vs Dan!
-
Well as soon as I get mine, I'm going to take it apart to find the PLL, so then maybe we can OC the FSB via setFSB or other software means. I think Eggs might win this one though, since I have an EDD way off. But since I won't damage it, Dell should still cover it
"I don't know how my GPU started failing Mr. Dell guy, maybe it was getting hot? I'm not very good with computers"
-
@nuke - i thought dan ditched the m11x for the girl in his pic. so unfair race.
also, im new to the whole pc shenanigans. Can Oc'ing be turn on/off quickily and simply for the most part. cause battery life is very important to me. -
do you guys think m11x with outpreform a i5+330m laptop?
-
Say that the guy who had a drink too much ended up sleeping near the controls of a Abrams.
-
miteymax= in terms of games that are GPU heavy, the m11x will win. in terms of CPU heavy apps, the i5 will win. But its unclear how the weak link would affect the performance relative to the strong point.
-
@nuke lol. I should send it back after that, "do you guys cover combat damage?" haha
-
I hate posting on the bottom of the page. You always get skipped.
So is OC'ing something that can be turned on/off simply. -
thank you nuke if the 330m laptop could take down the m11x it would break my heart lol being that im about to be an owner of a m11x
-
@B_G= its a bios option. So you will have to reboot to change it.
@miteymax =the 330m will lose flat out vs the GT335 but like i said, the effect of the weak link (ULV C2D/330) on the mightier (no pun intended) partner (i5/335) isn't very clear. They are two very distinct systems and are too hard to compare laterally.
@ dan = Or say the Taliban dropped their whiskey on it
-
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
no credit for me pointing that out? for shame!
-
Mightymax, are you talking in benchmarks? GPU wise, the 335M will outperform the 330M, but CPU wise the i5 will beat the SU7300. It would be interesting to run benchmarks on both setups, but I think with an i5 CPU, the i5 setup will score higher
-
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
i dunno, where did you hear about that? I think it's the ram timings and quality that matter, not the amount. -
Yes,
Also, I would ditch the M11X for her
-
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
the point I believe is that you make sure it works via usb first, then bluetooth will follow shortly thereafter. Its like a good troubleshooting step. -
@ dan =any straight guy would. ROFL. Wonder what would dell say if I told them a sheep ate my m11x...
-
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
@ceolwolf and B_G, i'm pretty sure ultimate just gets you bitlocker. use truecrypt instead, get 7 business for virtual xp mode
-
yea i was talking about a i5+330 vs m11x... i hope the m11x will have the edge in ingame preformance.
-
Yea, the 4GB should be suffient. M17X top benching scores are done on 4 GB ram, although you can OC the RAM, but the CPU will be the bottle neck
-

@nuke the razer mamba has wireless rechargeable batteries and switch to wired mode also.
-
@nuke. haha, i don't know, maybe i'll call them about it lol
@Max, It should in most games, with the exceptions being CPU intensive games like GTA. -
Can you eleborate on bitlocker and truecrypt. What is it? and would i need it for virtual xp?
-
@eggsy = Thanks! VS the Sidewinder X8 which is better?
-
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
B_G bitlocker is a hardware encryption service created by microsoft, if you dont know what it is, you dont need it. and if you do find one day you need it, use truecrypt which is better.
i say truecrypt is better because bitlocker has had its encryption compromised by hackers. What a surprise, the open source version is better than the proprietary? no way!
It's the same story for virtual xp, but at least you dont have to go through much activation with virtual xp mode. you could just use virtualbox which is made by sun which honestly I trust more than microsoft, plus you can fiddle faddle with virtual linux and such on virtualbox. or virtual 7 or virtual vista. see what i mean?
you dont even have to get su7300 you could get su4100 and use vmware instead of the others and just choose not to use pcsx2. See how they get ya?
-
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
well, the razer mamba is the best wireless mouse in the world, with like 4000 or 5000 dpi and like 1ms latency, cant get any better.
but the sidewinder x8 has a much more agreeable puck-shaped wireless dongle. and it's cheaper.
But the mamba can be plugged in and used wired, which i prefer. I still like the orochi better because the mamba has an unfortunately large wireless adapter/charger that needs to be plugged in. I'd get the orochi and a pack of 4 AA batteries along with a wall charger and just use that

don't forget, no i5s in laptops that I'm aware of that have a 330 partner can be overclocked, but they do have turboboost. And trust me, the m11x wins when the cpu is overclocked to 1.73ghz. Plus, I guarantee within the year someone will hack the bios for 2GHZ overclocking because of the massive massive amount of interest in the laptop. Until then you use setfsb and smile.
-
@Eggsy- Do you need pro/ultimate for virtualbox? Also why virtualbox over microsofts version, any benefits besides trust?
-
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
xp mode IS virtualbox from what I've heard, only advantage is the easy authentication of xp. like, you dont need a valid cd-key (one is automatically provided and activated) whereas virtualbox is as if you're installing it to a separate computer.
virtualbox is open source software and doesnt require anything but the vt-support in the su7300 (not in su4100). su4100 owners can use vmware afaik (I have been using vmware since forever, since before VT-x was a feature offered on cpus. dont quote me on that but im relatively sure that old ratty athlon 1800+ didnt have amd virtualization). -
Well a 50$ diff is a 150rm difference for me so I'll take the x8. The x8 has a wired and wireless mode too ay just that its a mag head so you don't have to squeeze a cable in. I would love the mamba but its too exp for me T_T
-
Virtuabox is Sun's VM program. It competes with Vmware, Parallels and Virtual PC 2007.
XP mode is the latest version of Virtual PC, but with benefits, such as better integration with the Windows 7 host (Start menu integration, easier out of the box setup (networking up, drivers installed ,etc), so it's easier for those one off apps, like Quicken or Office.
XP mode does run slower than traditional apps like VMware, and it is alot harder to make backups. But, they are marketed to different segments. It's just that alot of the people that use VMware and the like are doing it for the old application that wont run on Vista/7, which makes XP mode better, as it's cheaper and alot more hassle free.
In short - People who need XP mode are forced to use VMware, and for them XP mode is alot easier. Those of us that use VMware to make sandbox OSes to play with won't find much use with XP mode. -

oh thats good to know, i thought it was only wireless. Yeah the mamba is way too expensive but appealing, thats why when I heard the orochi had a wired mode I was so excited.
and hakaslak good points -
I own both the X8 and the Mamba. I hate the buttons on the X8. And it feels alot cheaper. I bought mine with a discount at Best Buy, so I have lifetime return policy - I've returned and exchanged it twice now xD.
-
If you have larger hands the Orochi is not for you. I get cramps... but I just find that the Orochi is so much cuter.
God, I feel like a girl squealing about her handbag/shoe/new skirt. -
Just ordered one. Yay! Its nice to have a mod shop near to yours. It usually stocks the most xtreme stuff. XP Plus its always easier to justify a purchase when you point out that there's an equivalent thats expensive by almost 30%
@hasalak = I would have gotten the mamba if i had the $$$$$$ but sadly I don't T_T
