I was kind of regretting black until i just looked at that vidSince i ordered mine over the phone and the rep was ridiculously lazy i didnt get to pick any of my default colors/avtar/wallpaper...he said "oh you can just change that once you get it". Lazy ! I am pretty sure i am going to get the Kabuto/Orochi combo but waiting for the email from Amazon from the further review on my card app.
-
@logan
but look at that RED!!! Would be sweet if red was an option. -
Also look at the end of the video where he views both laptops from above.....the M11x's screen is extremely distorted compared to the M17x.
Wonder if that's the RGB M17x, because that's some viewing angle. -
Red isnt my favorite color...once i get it i will probably be going with green all around at first...and then mixing it up a bit. Gonna mess around with it. It had never crossed my mind to even think about purchasing an alienware until this M11X
I would say Dell did a great job at getting a larger client base with this.
-
must..look..at..other M11x vids..with cooler..silver... lol wonder why other people have statd the color is a bit darker, I believe HH mentioned this as well as Darkhan. Eh, nm I won't cry over it too much if it's bright silver.

Hey guys i've been reading this thread for a good few days finally decided to join the discussion, ordered my Laptop on the 4th from Dell Ireland. Can't wait for it, Macbook+Gaming= Fail.
-
Would you happen to know if the lowered voltage will still work when the processor is overclocked? Like, if I undervolt when it's 1.3GHz and then switch to 1.73GHz, will I have to change the voltage as well?
-
@logan
yea, man. Up until now, I have not ONCE considered buying an Alienware. They are just too darn heavy and costly for my taste.
@ceolwulf
Not too sure, man. I have not once overclocked anything in my life. -
The screen on the m11x has me really obsessing now, because i'm really crossing my fingers that it has decent black levels/contrast/viewing angles. It looks to be decent looking straight at it, but did you notice when the screen blanked out, that huge light bleed from th bottom up to half the screen or more? Not a good sign.
-
@ceolwulf
If you underclock you might be able to OC the CPU. There really is no way to know for sure right now since no one has one but when we do you can simply undervolt and OC and then test for stability. If it crashes out of say OCCT then you will still need the extra volts to get it going. When I OCed my desktop it took me about 3 days to get the perfect volts and they are low for what the CPU is OCed to. -
@villosa Gotcha. Thanks for answering and thanks jonjonk
-
@ darky = "points at link" Explaaaine. XP. Great link btw, I just can't speak danish.
-
Thanks for the vid!
I'm happy I got the Cosmic Black instead.Can't wait for my machine.
-
STARCRAFT 2 BETA WILL B OUT THIS MONTH ! Wow, cant wait to test it with M11x

It's too early to freak out over the screen IMHO because EVERY review site that has managed to get their hands on the M11x so far has been looking at pre-production systems (you can tell by the giant red and white "Dell internal use only" stickers on the back of the M11x).
Based our lab experience with pre-production units you can "potentially" get some huge variance between the hardware that goes into the pre-production systems and the production-level units that ship to consumers. A great example that comes to mind was when we received a pre-production ThinkPad two years ago and then received a production-level machine a few weeks later. Both systems had displays with IDENTICAL part numbers but the pre-production screen looked MUCH worse because it was an early batch from the display supplier that didn't go through the same quality control as parts that ship to consumers.
This is why we generally do our best to let our readers know if we are reviewing a pre-production machine in the official reviews on this website. It's also why we sometimes purchase production-level machines for review if we know for a fact that a manufacturer can only send us a pre-production machine.
It's possible that there is no difference between a pre-production machine and systems that ship to consumers, but you never can be certain.
As far as the M11x goes, I'm more concerned about glare and reflections coming off that edge-to-edge glossy plastic-covered screen. -
I want in on the beta...i've never won...anything lol.
@jonjonk
Alienware was just out of my price range...i get $1300 once a year until 2013 on my birthday which is feb 7th...i got it a little early this year and all $1300( my m11x was $1296) went to this lappy. But i will be selling my xps m1530 that im using right now once i get my m11x and get everything transferred. -
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
see i told you the link in my sig would announce beta
-
Darkhan said a while back that he's going to order one of these and test it out with the M11x. Even though the glass extends to the sides of the lid, I think it will be nice to know how it handles reducing glare and keeps it protected.
-
But then Darky did say its not very usable outdoors...
-
So what about anti-glare film for the screen...anyone know a good source?
-
@Jerry Jackson:
I hear you on that, and if you're as picky as me on the screen, you might notice that it seems like there are 2 different screens floating around in pre-production, if you pay careful attention to the various videos that are available to us.
Look at the CNET video for example, the screen is, in a word, perfect. But some of the other youtube videos make it look like there is serious bottom led diffusion light bleeding and horrible contrast not to mention bad viewing angles.
If the screen isn't great, back it goes is all i can say. -
Whats the first thing you guys wanna see tested when the first person receives their order? Personally i really want to see MW2 using an OC CPU to compare the difference between that, and what Alienware showed off performance wise. To see if it really makes a massive difference.
-
@BrianIRL:
If i get mine early (which i doubt) i'm going to run these immediately (and post results):
furmark extreme burnin
mw2
batman: arcane asylum
LFD2
bioshock2
3dmark vantage

ceolwolf, you missed the post where he said he was joking lol -
Damnit! >:O Oh well... I guess I'll order one and try it out. I'll get the measurements for the glass from the manual.
-
Whoever does get it first is one lucky son of a ..... I think whoever it isreally has to do some tests, they know the sense of anticipation round here is crazy. Wont be me sadly i have a estimated date for the 22nd but no sign of production yet, once again Irish customers shall be screwed.
-
I've ordered from Dell for over ten years on bto notebooks and they have always beaten their delivery estimates by FAR.
-
First thing I'm gonna doing is OC to 1.73 and run laps around Dalaran (WoW).
-
first thing ima do is boot up Big Rigs Off Road Racing...... MAXED OUT!
-
I am going to OC my CPU to 2.3 and run Hello Kitty Adventure World FPS benchmark because it is CPU dependent.
-
Lol i think there will have to be an Xfire or steam username M11X thread, to see if we can keep a track of what everybody is playing.

I have an EDD of the 19th but I'm not even going to be in town then. On the 20th I think one of my neighbors is going to start posting first impressions and unboxing videos here
-
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
everyone knows jazz jackrabbit and space quest are the best tests of gpu capability. come on man stop trolling!
-
@eggs = We'll see who gets whose first, you or wingzee, cause both of you have the same EDD.
-
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
wingzee unless he's my neighbor. blast! I've caught him!
at least im probably the first by a few months who will have the su4100. everyone else doesnt want to take the risk of the pentium really being a pentium 3 or something lol. -
My EDD is March 5th /wrists
-
@abusedbunny
Best game...EVER! -
Mine is March 8
.. tooo long!!!
and can anyone confirm to me the little tool symbol on f2 and f3.. are those to adjust the brightness of the screen? -
Yea, it is looking like typical 11-12" screen to me
They are all pretty bad especially with vertical viewing angles if you dont have screen at precisely the right angle the bottom gets washed out and top gets oversaturated. Also the screen looks so tiny with all that black border around it.
The silver color is quite depressing as well, what happened to the gunmetal grey in the reviews? Kind of wish I didn't see this video, was much more excited before
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
Man, I wanna see the video of the hands on, on youtube but I'm at work so can't view it.
-
I want it now!!!
+rep me if you want your m11x tomorrow.
-
@vinceboiii:
The quality of the video is quite good, he compares it to the m17x too. -

Man ... you just made me go buy the Space Quest Collection on Steam! I'm going to have to put a Space Quest Easter Egg in the M11x review just for you.
-
I have an HP311 mini and the screen doesn't look washed out X_x.. it's pretty decent for it's size imo.. never really had a viewing angle problem X_x.. maybe because i'm used to it? I'm not sure.
-
Or we could all join the M11x Owners group on Steam!
-
Eggs Scrambled Notebook Evangelist
nice nice, space quest is indeed in a league of its own, it was basically one of the first games I've played! (Although I started with space quest 5 the time rippers or whatnot, IMHO the most intriguing of the series because of all the references to the previous ones.)
-
Haha you got there before me, i'm on a MAC at the moment so no steam for me to set it up, i ll join now, put it in your sig and lets get this party started
-
@eggs = I've had people not purchase a Pentium just cause its "older" than the C2D system sitting next to it...
@kyo = I'll join once I get my home desktop to load.
make me an admin?
-
They have space quest on steam?! I've been out of the windows/gaming loop for awhile now.. Battlefield 2 was the last game I remember playing on a PC. I have a feeling I'll be playing a lot of old games on this nice computer.. X-Com, Space Quest, counter-strike (.6 beta was the best!) who knows what else. And of course I'm debating on getting MW2 for it.. I have it for the 360 now.. Got some skill with the 360 controller, but I bet my mouse aiming has really atrophied.
-
Im my sig, excellent idea!
