I was surprised too ... that's why I went ahead and bought it. Best of all, since it only requires an 800MHz CPU and ANY video card you can play it with the CPU underclocked and running on the IGP. :p

Does anyone know if the keyboard can be set to 3 different collors like it's older sister alienwares

It seems like you can only set the keyboard to one color at a time.. and not 3 like the others X(

Somewhere in these 300 pages awhile back i believe Darkhan stated that you cannot color the keyboard 3 at a time. Can only be one solid color at a time.

Yes, but I'm 99 percent certain you can set it to randomly change from one color to another, and another, etc. if you don't want to stick with a single color. At least a few of the pre-production M11x units on display at CES were setup that way.

If you are going to be attending the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver read this

Quote "“EA, Fatboy and Dell Gaming are creating the perfect gaming lounge in Vancouver this winter by joining forces. We have created a great lounge for attendees to relax and game on the new Alienware M11x, the most powerful 11-inch Gaming Laptop in the Universe!” said Claudina Lopez, Marketing Manager for Dell Gaming. "

    http://www.prweb.com/releases/2010/02/prweb3572214.htm

Sims 3 seems like a total waste of the M11x but what the hell you'll at least get a chance to try it out :)

Dell history with LCD screens isn't great. I still remember the days when it was a lottery getting a good screen with a new Dell laptop. If you were lucky you'll get LG, if not so much Samsung...

I will speculate that m11x will have same exact screen as Acer 11" which was ok, but definitely not great.

Well, considering the number of threads about the M11x and the number of page views for those threads and for our homepage coverage of the M11x, we not only requested an official review/loan unit from Dell but we also ordered one ourselves (just in case the official review unit doesn't get here fast enough).

If I really like the M11x I might buy the unit that we purchased, but if I don't really like it then that M11x will go for sale on eBay (like all the other review units that we buy if we don't get a review unit from the manufacturer) so that we get money back for our editorial budget.

Anyway, although I'm very interested in the M11x my main reason for being here is just to keep tabs on all this traffic and make sure that we cover at least "some" of what people are asking about in our official review.

We obviously can't run every single benchmark and game mentioned in this lengthy thread because we have other notebooks to review and (unlike some sites) we don't like to have 57-page reviews just so we can fit all of the tests. ;)

Still, the NBR staff will be dedicating a lot of coverage to the M11x when it shows up in our lab.

jerry, if it matters I think all that needs to be done are benches on the latest games, the standard total pc tests like pcmark and 3dmark, a few old faves like civ4 or total war, and then highlight all the unique features like the backlight/light zone configuration, the cooling system and how it affects the possible positioning of the laptop on a bed vs a desk, the quality of the screen and a few benches showing the difference between OC and non-OC. The special function key usages and touchpad performance would be a nice touch as well.

Jerry - it's nice to see you keeping an eye on the community and understanding certain things we may be looking for. It's also nice to see the M11x garnering this much interest! I wonder if Alienware/Dell expected this. I also now expect to see the competition for the ultraportable gaming market to explode soon enough thanks to this machine. I don't know if it was because netbooks paved the way for computing in small form factors or if it was simply the technology finally made it a viable option, but glad to be in the notebook market when this thing hits.

Jerry, please please benchmark gta4 as none of the other sites have and its a very interesting game to see on a spec like this. A quad core is reccomended for the game yet alienware claims that the m11x can run it at 720p so im wondering whether it can with a dualcore ulv processor. Whos with me? :D

I wouldnt get your hopes up for gta4, but if it does run faster than 20fps then you should count your blessings.

Thankfully games that are heavily optimized for more than two cores are few and far between so this shouldnt be a problem for the majority of games.

Why would GTA4 be an issue on m11x? I played it just fine on a 2 year old laptop with 9600GS card with medium settings. It has 3dmark06 of about 4k

ofcause the 9800gt is pretty much more then double the performance of the 335m

    9800gt
    # 112 Stream Processors
    # 512-1024MB of GDDR3 memory
    # 256-bits Memory Interface Width
    # 600 MHz Graphics Clock
    # 1500 MHz shader Processor Clock
    # 900 MHz Memory Clock

    335m
    72 stream processors
    1gb gddr3
    128 bit bus
    450mhz core
    1080 shader processor clock
    790 mhz memory

and even at 1.73ghz su7300 is still slower then your 2.6ghz un-overclocked e8400

GTA4 is like the worst port ever.

Crysis will run, but it will suck.

Both games lag on my 9600m GT 512 on my macbook pro. Both games run a little less sucky on my m15x GTX 260m 1GB GDDR3.

The m11x is good for its form factor, but admit it. This computer is slower than the macbook and m15x, and if those two suck with those games, the m11x will just suck that much more.

idk i just cant stand 30 fps its not smooth enough for me. i plan to play pretty laid back less intensive games like call of duty 4 (mw2 is TERRIBLE for pc), street fighter 4, left 4 dead 1, and command and conquer and counter strike. all those are sure to hit 50+fps.
