new vid. shows some m11x footage not a whole lot though.

anything to ease the wait right?

Man, this laptop is so damn nice!!! thanks for the new video ahanslot.
I just cancelled my order
.
I did not have the stackable coupons; only the epp discount. I maxed out that thing in everything so it came up @ 2k including tax with 4 year warranty
my main reason for cancelling? PERFORMANCE, the base core i blows out of the water the core duo in benchmarks. I believe that later this year the alienware m11x will be almost the same price as now, +100 maybe.
since I will be keeping this puppy for 4 years, I might as well wait a little bit longer for what alienware has in hands.
I know it will be stupid for those who got those laptops with the stackable coupons to cancel specially if they got it for under $850 but for me I guess it make sense.
It was funny when I called the rep, she was like...are you really sure you want to cancel? -
how in the world do people get it to 2,000?
beyond the cpu ram and 7200 hd upgrade, which is 200 total, everything else is pure luxury. "lets see here, i want that ssd, 10 year spill warranty, a new backpack, windows ultimate, photoshop cs4, antivirus for 3 years....."
beyond 1,000 you stopped paying for the machine itself. and for those who need software for school, save a couple hundred and get openoffice 3.0
theres also very good antivirus programs for free on the internet. and cs4..... is extremely easy to... crack some eggs for breakfast. -
@abusedbunny
because USA is the land of lawsuits
And yea, for $2000, you might as well get that new Vaio Z.
-
as when I bought it, the computer was almost at 1100... if you add the 4 year warranty +350, etc...$1500, plus tax $1650, so I just threw in 350 for the RAM and SSD (since prices are similar in auctions etc)
-
Those are the processors the Sony Z uses and it gets 6 hours normal usage according to the engadget review and runs very cool that's with a 13" screen so they should be entirely possible to put in m11x and probably will get another hour or more battery life as well due to the 11" screen.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/11/sony-vaio-z-series-vpcz114gx-s-review/1#comments
Battery testing is under the 3dmark/PCMark charts. -
oh it starts at 1100? yeah that is a different story.
-
lucky you guys that it started like at $699 or $799, dell is not stupid and figured it was loosing money. so they only left a few options... for example, they took all the hdd options and just left the 500hdd and the 250SSD
-
Unless there wll be a ULV version of an i3, not going to happen. Uses at least 2X the battery in normal use and would change size. Perhaps if they came out with their own 13.3" to challenge Asus, then it would seem a chance. -
by the way did you guys saw the video in youtube showing the true fps when playing a game? it drops to like 15 and even less. the lady at the end says "look the fpr is at 50"
yeah...when the game finishes. -
If your gonna spend 2k anyway might as well get the Sony Z it has the i5/i7 330m and is same formfactor/size as the m11x plus you get 13" screen the price is the only thing holding most people back. -
yeah man, if you're looking for a computer to last 4 years, this is not it. Good thing you canceled. You want something a bit more future proof than this guy. Sure the 335m is nice, but a ULV C2D is not good for 4 years. Actually, I don't think any netbook or ultraportable is really good for that long. You'll want something a bit more beefy, preferably an i5 and 330m (if 3D stuff is important) at least, or wait for 58xx to be more popular in 14" notebooks and down. This is my opinion of course..
The more I read about the arrandale processors, the more I want one. They're amazing CPU's and equivalent C2D's that are benchmarked are quite a bit behind. If i-series coming to M11x is true, awesome as I planned to sell my M11x in 6months time anyway. -
wow that pretty cool...now why doesnt the u.s get this. here once warranty is out and you laptop breaks its time to do DIY repairs or buy a new one
-
The epp coupons made a huge difference. I went to load up an m11x last night to see how price compared to the z and it came out to 1864 with tax. That's without any software or warranty upgrades just ssd, dvd drive 4gb ram and gobi wan. I'm sure that's why Dell disabled the coupons and came up with different base config and all, there is a crazy difference in price now without all those epp discounts.
-
you mean this video ????
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1BdWINKHuk
at around 1:05 min of the video ...
read the comment of this video you will know what i talking about -
yeah that one, its so funny what she says at the end. did you guys notice the fpm's and thats not even an extensive game. notice how the guy hides the frames?
-
By the way, is the Z series even available in the US?
I can't find the specs in the website.
Is it really that worth it compared to m11x?
One reason I'm getting the m11x is actually the dell warranty..
I break things - a lot
EDIT: I know I missed something. Where is the i7 option for Z series? I see it by google but I can't find it in the sonystyles. Is it a future product? Sorry hasn't been following the Z discussion - Sony gave me a bad impression with electronics. -
L4D2 is still a source engine game
more depend on cpu.
can't expect too much.. especially when the horde comes -
by the way ,, becareful !! fire is coming... lol -
It's preorder same as m11x. If it's worth it or not is up to you, I went back and forth for a long time but after reading the engadget review had to have one LOL

It is available in the US here is the link

The main difference is the processor Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8800 (2.66GHz), so its twice the performance I believe.
Maximize productivity with up to 7.5 hours9 of standard power, or opt for the -
No that's the old one lol the new one blows it away link is in post above yours
-
sorry, that was the wrong link, bluehaze has it correct!!
-
I love how people think he's hiding the frames. Did you notice he keeps the camera on the framerate the majority of the time the FPS are at ~15? And when he's hiding the framerate they're at like 40 FPS because she's not doing anything?
There's no conspiracy here, the guy just couldn't hold the camera steady the entire time. -
The iX core motherboards use less power, the the overall package for the ulv has a similar TDP. The problem of course is price, at least right now a core i5 both mobo and chips are hundreds more expensive. Also worth noting, the Sony Z is not using the ULV core i5, and it actually only got 4.5 hours of battery life on the test. Compared with the M11X getting 7+ hours in the same test.
I have a minimum 4 classes a day, each an hour long, that I need to take notes in. If the battery only lasts 4 hours, I literally cannot use my laptop between classes or in down periods, because the battery will be gone. Ill take the M11X with 4 hours of gaming and up to 8 hours normal use, versus 4 normal use and probably 2 gaming. Not to mention the Z is twice as expensive, heavier, etc. Also, the Z is gonna represent the best case scenario, so cheaper i5 laptops today are going to have even less battery life, etc.
For under $1000 the M11X can't be beat, and even without the discounts, you can get a fine M11X for around $1000. These people getting up to $2000 are hilarious, as already mentioned, you pretty much have to pick the most expensive everything, and get upgrades like 8 gigs of ram that make no sense at all.
You can still get the good deals if you call in. Simply make your M11X on the standard dell site, put it in your cart, then call in to EPP and tell them you want the discount. They will give it to you. -
yeah it looks cool.. just like borat says: "VERY NICE"
-
Yoda, I tried it but they wont do it. those mofos are hard to crack.
-
Yeah, it's pretty easy though. SSD + RAM + Win7 (none if which I got) + WWAN pretty much double the price. Or more.
-
Like I said, the RAM and SSD was like $350 extra, what raised the price was the insurance and tax, and believe that I need it having a 5 year old who destroys everything in its path lol
-
The SSD alone practically doubles it, but it isn't a needed upgrade, it is a luxury upgrade, and to get an SSD on say the Sony, which already starts at 2K, will add another $1000.
You can get a great M11X for around $1000. 4 gigs of ram, 7200 RPM drive, even throw in WWAN and it will still be under $1250 with tax and shipping. Pretty good when similar laptops are starting at $1250-$1850 and going up from there. -
Wow.. even just looking at the processor, for that form factor I'm awed..
Too bad they have too much options
That thing is customizable up to 4.5k between hardware and warranty :s I'm actually more satisfied with being stuck by only being able to upgrade so much~ [Though better processor would always be nice
]

Brief overview. M11x reviews needed to spice the thread up. This is not one, but better than nothing?
http://ptech.allthingsd.com/20100203/two-little-laptops-with-a-lot-to-offer-their-core-users/ -
just add the SSD after ,
get the cheapest harddrive option..
you can get a Gen 1 intel x25-m around 275-300 dollars 160gb
if you ok with 80gb it will be much cheaper.
but SSD is really important for a portable system. -
Nah, it's 6 hours normal use, the 4.5 hours is of video playback which is similiar to gaming you'll probably get an hour less or so gaming not sure but that is with 13" screen so battery life would be similiar to C2D I think given the 11" screen in m11x.
Here is the quote form the review:
"So for the million dollar question: how do these high-performance parts affect battery life? With the discrete graphics turned off, the 57Wh battery lasted for 4 hours and 25 minutes on our video rundown battery test with brightness to 65 percent. That translated to about six hours of usage when we used the laptop to surf the web and write this review in Microsoft Word 2007" -
@Yoda
No, man. The Vaio Z starts with the SSD. The basic config has that. -
This quote made me rage a little:
What? When did anyone ever say, "Laptops are totally going to die out and tablets will replace them"? I don't think any quality review site would dare say such a thing.
There are those who need a tablet and those who need a laptop. Rarely do the two markets intersect, and rarely in a way that would require a choice between them. -
Besides taking notes, whatelse are you going to use a tablet for? $600 just to take notes? W....T....F
-
Tablets in my opinion are the dumbest thing engineers could come up with. Even with the on-screen haptic keyboards they now offer, they are useless. Apple ipad was the biggest desception of 2010 jajaja
-
Actually the gaming would be less, just noticed they were able to use integrated graphics for video playback.
-
A futile attempt to change the mindset of consumers. That or they're hired by a tablet-making company.
-
Isn't it more of an enlarged iTouch than a tablet?
A lot of my friends who uses iPhone and MacBook has no interest in iPad - at all. -
and whats the point of having a blutooth keyboard with it? just get a damn laptop!!!
-
So why does the dell site say up to 8.5 hours of battery life. Is that if it is just sitting there with the screen turned off?
-
exactly vincentius, I have the ipod touch and its the same exact thing..
Is like when Mario Bros eats the mushroom lol
Apple is going down hill, ohh and the ipad doesn't support flash, just like its baby brothers!! -
I am not against apple, because they trully revolutionized computing and music, but come on!!! those engineers that came up with the ipad I just think should be like trump says...YOU ARE FIRED!!
-
Mark me as another who has no interest in it specifically because I have both an iPhone and MacBook. The iPad OS is just a modified iPhone OS with little feature innovation. But yes, it's really just a big iPod Touch that can connect to AT&T's 3G.
I would be happy about the iPad if Jobs pegged it as Apple's take on an eReader, but he came out on stage and laughed in the face of netbooks while holding up the iPad like it was supposed to replace them. There's no way in Hell that the iPad could ever replace a tactile, multitasking, Flash-enabled computer. I could go and get a Dell Mini for $300 less and it would kick the pants off of the iPad. </rant>
Anyway, back on topic: M11x is fun. -
So how much exactly is the EPP discount? I priced mine at $949 before shipping but wondered if it would be better to go thru regular customer service and use student discount instead of the EPP... I thought the student one was more off...
-
Wow, tuned in to this thread to catch up on M11x news and I get iPad news.......wt f guys?
-
The student discount is the EPP discount: Dell lets students use its EPP program if you have a student ID from a school. This nets you a nice 10% discount plus access to coupons you wouldn't normally be able to get.
-
Also, this review is of apples and oranges. The only comparison here is the size. The Sony X is a bit better than a netbook with a crummy GPU, and without the extended battery gets crummy battery life. You have to keep the extended battery on for the excellent battery life, but it's going to negate the form factor. Either way, you can't compare the m11x beast against this netbook+.
