Ok, I posted somethings on the order statues thread, but, since the thread isn't as popular, everything went unnoticed. Here it is again:
About the name plate, what if you decided to have a normal M11x name plate instead of the craziness of the customized version? Can you still call Alienware after you get the laptop and request a normal name plate? If so, would that cost extra?
Also, what is this?
* AW:sp0_0ki
sp0_0ki was on my order email. What is that? Did you guys get that, too?
Is that the name on the plate? What the crapI asked for nothing on mine.
-
I got all those games for $20 total. I love Baghdad.
-
And what about the AW package(M11x package I mean)? Any Ideas? Suggest
!
-
When I put in my name it said the same thing
*AW: NAME_HERE
Pretty sure that is the name they put on the plate. So if it says AW:sp0_0ki they are probably going to put that on the plate, I would call them. -
Ugh I'm kinda regretting getting the WoW preinstalled version.
Installing 10 GB's into this thing will most likely extend my edd. -
@ jonjonk, Steam is an online game store. A lot of games require the use of steam to prevent loggin online with bootleg copies. The M11X nameplate will just say M11X if you don't get it customized. It will probably look something like this, minus the "Built For"
The thank you thing is just there to say thanks, means nothing -
@dr650
I was only asking about the sp0_0ky thingy lol Thanks for explaining everything though

I don't think I'll be playing the more graphic heavy games on mine.
So far I'm thinking StarCraft II (hope I get into the beta), Torchlight, Planescape: Torment, Elemental: War of Magic, Demigod, StarCraft, WarCraft III, Half-Life 2, CS:S, and maybe Dragon Age depending on how it runs.
I'm sure I'll think of others later. -
2 funny things:
1. When I called up Dell, customer care said they can't ever see my nameplate. And I was annoyed the other day cos they told me I need to talk to a sales specialist and I was ping-ponged 4 times between customer care -_-
2. Sigh, I could've 'verified' my nameplate before calling them if I've known this. I noticed the AW: but it says my full name instead of the name I wanted so I assumed that just shows the owner's name. This is only visible in the e-mail though it seems, not the order status.
So yeah all you who customized their nameplates - double check there :s -

Biggerboat, I think you'll find that the cpu in the m11x is more than enough to acceptably play most games at 30fps, even games like civ 4 or whatever other strategy game you're interested in.
Everyone seems to want to drop a load on us owners about its cpu, but just because a game claims its cpu dependent doesnt mean you're outta luck for games that depend mainly on the cpu. When a game is considered cpu dependent, the thing that usually factors in is 60fps performance as opposed to 30fps.
30fps numbers will be easily gotten by the m11x, and at times even 60fps can be attained. Even with a ulv core i5 or core i7 like everyone wants wouldnt improve on these numbers that much IMHO, and for all we know may not have/have had an overclocking option.
In my opinion benchmarks for other machines don't even really matter, firstly because there's no laptop out there that can 100% claim to be a rival by being a netbook (very small) sized gaming laptop (for that matter do you EVER see people complaining as much about the weight of sager/clevo gaming powerhouses or the m17x over other 17" laptops?! It somehow makes sense there because it's the added value of gaming but not here?), and secondly the only benchmarks that matter are for THIS machine to tell what THIS machine can do. It's in a league of its own for sure, it just matters whether or not that league is well behind or well ahead of other leagues. -
I asked this about a billion years ago but will Age of Empires III run on it with a lot of units running around? I know when I used to play AoE II skirmish my P4 2.4 would stutter like hell.

@vince
Dude, I hate getting ping-ponged by Dell. Just a week ago, when I called EPP to see if they can apply the stack-able coupons, they transferred me to sales, and sales transferred me to EPP...then back to sales..and then I got disconnected. I called again, and they put me on hold for nearly an hour. After the wait, they told me the coupons couldn't stack. I waited for ever just so I can be denied. -

yes. cpu clocks improve over time, 1.73ghz on a c2d/(pentium in this case is equivalent) should be much faster than a p4 especially a p4 at 2.4ghz. -
Age of Empire 3 is an old game, dude. If I can max Civ4 on a 9400m, I'm certain the M11x can run AoE3 maxed out, too.
-
Lol just making sure cause it's the only game I kinda care about playing on here. I just want my graphics maxed out which I know the gpu will handle perfectly but I also want a crap load of units (like tons since I build impossibly huge custom scenarios) that the 1.73GHz will hopefully handle as well. if not I'll tone down my unit counts...
-
For a serious discussion, will this laptop be powerful enough to run Commander Keen?
-
I'm late, but I watched that singapore m11x launch video. i like how the rep says, you can get 50 fps in games like risk lmao. Doesn't phase me though, not playing games on max settings.
-
Yeah I really don't care about maxing graphics out on graphic heavy games, that's not what I bought this thing for.

Just looking at the lighting. Does anyone else like the fact you can have different colour schemes for plugged in and when using battery. No more shall I plug my laptop into the charger but not realise the switch has not been turned on, just to be caught in a race against time before the laptop beeps it's last beep and the battery dies. I think red should equal battery. Blue equal charger. Anyway ranting cool cool feature.
-
@im so short
there is actually a function key to turn off the lighting all together if you want a quick way to turn off lighting.
Also there is a quick function key to turn off battery charging. and same function key to check battery status. -
yeah, i think that's super cool. might be able to have it change colors when the battery gets low.. stuff like that.
i also see it fun to have in games - for example, when you have a grenade go off by you in crysis, the screen "blinks"... i wonder if that could be carried over to the lighting?
-
Someday my friend someday.
-
Sooner than you think. The guy who programmed the Pidgin plugin for the M15x and M17x AlienFX told me he'd like to work on one for the M11x. Maybe he could teach a couple of kids here his programming magic. ;D
-
yeah, i doubt we'll see it soon. but it sure would be kewl.
anyway... what lighting combos are "we" going to be using?
anyone going to do the different zones in different colors, or just keep 'em all the same?
