It is mostly just Fury, all he does is spend like 8 hours a day trying to bash the M11X.
-
-
Well, he is worried about his purchase, and needing to state that his is the best over and over. Both laptops have their function! They just don't have the same function, and are NOT comparable!!!
-
People got to understand.. what you're also paying for is time vs. performance..
As time goes by performance gets better. It just depends what time you want to get a certain performance. i5 or i3 or just the SU7300. Better or what not is subjective of when you want something. -
Yea I said this like 200 pages ago. He seems like the one kid who got a PS3 when everyone else is rolling 360 on Xbox Live. So he feels the need to constantly justify why his is better and awesome and amazing and ours sucks.
If it is so great then GO USE IT! If we wanted a Samsung, we would be in the Samsung forum, you notice we are in the Alienware forum (Pro-tip: we don't want a Samsung). -
Wow, just because you wouldn't doesn't mean other people wouldn't. You said it yourself; you're not like some people. Good job; pat yourself on the back... That doesn't mean you're right...
I play alot of LUX, which is a Risk-like strategy game and I much prefer playing it on a netbook or ultraportable to playing it on a desktop. However, most netbooks have a resolution that is slightly too low to play most LUX maps comfortably. The M11x really has a great resolution for it's size.
I wouldn't buy any netbook sized computer again unless it had at least a 720p resolution. I test and review alot of games and MANY games will crash or are just incompatible with lower resolutions. Especially newer indi titles.
-
That is not true mate LOL Core i5 clocked 2.5 ghz with turbo to 3.06ghz has similiar power usage as C2D 7300 because memory controller and graphics are integrated on die and is much more efficent. The i series is a huge stepup from C2D in power and efficiency. The C2D is 3 years old technology.
-
@fury, I see the sony z as having more in common with the m11x than the samsung... save the price.
and yes I will be using my m11x on the bus and in the car. also at the beach and the park. the performance*battery life/footprint ratio is more important to me so a standard voltage core was a no go for me
-
Hey I am also interested in finding out if the Alienware head on the back of the lid lights up... anyone know? And what is the avatar etc that we get to pick from when we order? Is that what will come on the back of the laptop?
-
Find me a link. What I have seen the Mobo is a lot more efficient because of some of the on-die stuff, but the chips themselves start much higher.
http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyId=43483
ULV i5 starts at 18 watts. The ULV version will have the exact same power consumption as the 10 Watt C2D (once you count the motherboard tdp for both). As you said the Mobo is able to take less while the processor takes more. But also notice that ULV i5 is clocked at 1.06 Ghz. Any of the higher processors eat double the power, and will result in a lot shorter battery life.
If the M11X gets a refresh it WILL use the ULV versions and it will only see roughly a 20% boost over a stock SU7300. Which all of us will be enjoying for like a year since we can Overclock our SU7300 for 20% more performance. -
I was 2 seconds from getting the BestBuy CW with the i5 and gt330, had credit approved and all and was in my cart. Decided on the m11x since the battery life on the CW doesn't really appeal to me, along with the mixed reviews on the screen... I don't really need like 6 hours or so, but would hate for it to poop out under 3 hours.
I am just hoping/praying that it I won't see too much of a difference in overall performance than my other two lappies in my sig... I play mostly source games and wow, use MS office applications (word/access/excel etc), and some light elementary photoshop use.
Like some others were saying a while back, I have never played with detail on high, unless it was CS:1.6, so even medium would be great! I can play l4d2 with the Sony SR and it's OK by me, if I am playing a 4 player campaign I get lag once in a while (explosions, hoard rushes, etc) but nothing I can't deal with... -
from all the videos that ive seen the head does not seem to light up..which does really bother me since i found the head on the m15x lighting up wasnt that cool anyways lol. But the picture on the aw website shows it light up so it should light up.
the avatar you get to pick is what is going to be preset for your laptop when you first start it up. of course you will get the other avatars too but when you pick one, the login screen and the start menu will have the avatar's picture presetted. -
ON ANOTHER NOTE!!!! it seems a real question was asked during the troll feeding... Does the alienhead have LED lighting as well... I'd like to know the answer to this RELIVANT question too!
-
The head on both the front and back DO LIGHT UP, and are customizable to any color in the spectrum. The M11X zones are the front vents, the keyboard, the Alienware text on the front, Alienware head on the front, Alienware head on the back, and the lighted fan on the bottom.
http://ow.ly/12XhI
Edit: OH, and the eyes on the front light up according to HDD activity, which is fricking sweet. -
by the looks of it, these are the areas that will be controled by the m11x alienfx command -
That is what got me interested in m11x to begin with, A long time ago I bought a top of the line Dell XPS 17 as a desktop replacement for when I wasn't at home but the damn thing turned out to be so huge and heavy with a gigantic power brick and all the other stuff to carry with it I never ever took the dang thing with me unless I was gonna be gone for a week at a time or something. It was just such a hassle. I won't be gaming on bus in car etc... I only game once in awhile anyways, haven't bought ME2 yet even and I do want to play that game LOL but I didn't wan't to make the same mistake again. So this time size and weight was most important thing to me along with power! 11x was dream machine until I heard about Sony though and then I had to defect and become enemy eventually because the Z is not only good for gaming but is as desktop replacement in same size. Aside from the Z though I don't think anything else beats 11x in power/portability so i'm not interested in the Samsung 480 but I do like to read Fury becnhmarks because it gives me an idea of how the Z will do performance wise, only the Z will beat is because of quad ssd LOL
-
but it does light up in this picture
-
yep, NO LIGHT UP HEAD, unless someone can prove otherwise
-
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

and fury, isn't the laptop you are talking about a difference size lol? isn't it like 14" and a pound or more heavier...? -
It looks like there are more zones since there are 5 zones shown on the top right but only 4 zone options down at the bottom.
-
*facepalm* the irony of this makes me chuckle
-
Just edited my post
-
Please do me a great Favor. Please try if you all will from quoting the trolls. I have them all on ignore but their useless banter is still showing up on your quotes. thanks
-
Me also, from trying to convince us all the the Samsung is the right choice, to now arguing that we should just grab an Atom + Ion, it is just as good right?
-
Has there been any more reviews since the Hardware Heaven?
-
When we fly =) At least 30% employees in my company travel 3 out of their 5 work days most of the time, 3 out of 4 weeks per month. They get work laptops, but do you game @ work laptops?
Oh, and 30% is not 2-3, more like 1000 =) -
i gave you a advice
for playing risk game.. or low demand game..
a eee pc 1201n will be better lol
i sold it and got myself this 14" because i want to play mass effect 2 in full glory in my office lolololo -
You can't compare a OC'd CPU with a non-OC'd CPU, that's cheating!
The ULV i7-640UM turbos to 2.26GHz in addition to having hyper-threading and an extra 1MB cache over the SU7300. So for people who don't overclock, stock vs stock, a ULV i7 offers nearly a 50% power increase.
For people who do overclock their SU7300, the performance gain won't be as much, but it definitely won't be equal. It's going to offer a 15-20% power increase minimum, and just that 20% extra will go a hell of a long way making CPU-dependant games more playable.
Anyway, there's been no definitive benchmarks for the new ULV Core iX CPU's so there's really no point in comparing them at the moment. We know there will be a power increase, we just don't know how much. -
@fury
I have a 1201n and unless you upgrade to Windows 7 64bit and at least 4gb ram min you aren't overclocking that machine to 2ghz! -
ahh yah just got my g500 in tha mail today. Im relieved too cuz the size of the mouse is perfect for my ginormous hands. Although this now makes the wait even more unbearable
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f223/coathanger_cure/photo.jpg -
No, just more videos showing the same thing and a lot of speculation.
Hopefully NBR will get a review model.
-
OH OH OH A REAL RELIVANT QUESTION!!!!!! QUICK SOMEONE CHANGE THE SUBJECT!!!
seriously guys, can we drop the cpu talk for now... its giving me a headache. there was a review posted like an hour ago, it should be about 50 pages back by now -
Man we should be able to nail this down, the people from hardware heaven should've gone into move detail on this...
SERIOUSLY? wut's the link? -
Oh, pretty
I'm sick of looking at blinking cylinder. -
I Think the M11x has been designed for people like me
I am a student in university, i travel from home to university and stay at my appartement during the week and go home the weekend where I have a nice P2370H Screen to play Games.
So during the week i can play on my M11x and during the weekend I can connect it to my HD Screen and enjoy games
and films
Why Alienware : Design, build quality, AlienFX, ... ! -
let's just say they do put an i5 or i7 ULV in the m11x... what's that gonna do to the price...?!?
-
Yea, I am just basing what I said on a benchmark of a ULV i5, which according to benchmarks was about 20% faster than the SU7300 at stock. I don't really understand all the turbo and other features.
Either way, even if it was 200% increase, I don't feel like waiting a year on the hope of getting something better. If I did that I wouldn't own anything electronic, cause there is always something better coming a year down the line (and we already know it is 6-8 months for a refresh and then probably another month on that for them to start shipping). -
This is a good point, the core ix stuff is about double the C2D stuff right now. $1400 for a base M11X? Nah, thanks.
-
except by then the next gen nvidia cards will be a few months off and you would be stupid to get the m11x-R1 when a refresh for 2011 Q1 is just around the bend..... ya buy when you need it... there is always something better on the horizon
-
Yea it's true, always waiting, that's why I wish it came with i5 now if so I never would have even looked at Sony Z. -
Thread temporarily closed. It will be reopened in about 30 min.
In the mean time, I suggest that some of you get acquainted with the user ignore feature(see your usercp), as you guys don't want to keep derailing this threads(and yes, that applies to everyone)

@Kdawgca, Thanks for getting this thread back on track.
What games is everyone going to load on thier M11X? I have MW2, Crysis, L4D2, RE5, Tom Clancy Hawxx, Devil May Cry, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect 2, Front Lines Fuel of War, Operation FlashPoint Dragon Rising.
A lot of them I'm going to load for benchmarks. We'll see how they run. -
MW2, L4D/2, TF2, HL/2, FFXI, FFXIV (when it comes out), and I'll probably find some other stuff while I browse the steam store.
-
I don't have much games, the last one I played was Dragon Age. I really want to get ME2 though sometime soon. Will have to get some of the other games also to compare results.
-
mmmhh Mass Effect 2, Resident Evil 5 (I hope not too CPU dependent
), Half Life 2, Lost planet 2(Just hope...)
