@jonjonk
Thanks so much for the pictures! They are great.

dude its definitely just the protective film. if you peel it back it will have the shiny
-
@batboy
it's what I was talking about in the official thread. This is not a protective layer, it's the actual thing. It arrived like this. The entire part above the keyboard is cheap plastic sticker.
edit: lol it is a protective layer, my bad. -
yeah I saw the M15x had a protective film over that area too, but it actually had buttons there. But yeah peel that off if possible.
-
Mines not like that! Just neat plastic, scratches easy though
-

jon,
Contact Support and have them dispatch out a replacement part. That part can be removed. If you do not feel comfortable doing so, a tech will handle it on-site. That is, unless you decide to return it. If you do, contact them within 21-days from the date on your invoice.
Hope it works out. Sometimes this can happen. I have had my share of new systems which have had some cosmetic flaw. -
Ok guys, sorry for the confusion. It is a protective layer. The adhesion is soo great that I thought it was a part of it lol
-
It's ok, we are laughing WITH you, not at you. -
LOL - Nice one jon. Here you had me worried there was a possible flaw going out with the new systems. hahaha thanks.
-
But I'm glad you found out it was just a film. -
-
Anyways, to confirm a feature, the battery can indeed be turned off when plugged in. -
Yeah i was like why the hell does this junk just crash

Mine's lunar silver
Here's pics (some have flash/no flash)
Box it shipped in:
The Alienware box:
Opening it up. The top is where driver disc/AC adapter/manual is
The notebook comes in this little cover
Uncovered!
What's in the box:
Back nameplate (default nameplate):
Compared to the Acer Aspire One 8.9" netbook. Footprint is bigger, but just as thin/thick. The pics make the M11x look a lot "thicker" than it actually is
Other pics. I took flash off on most pics, but you can see for yourself:
-
@hom3
I'm sorry, man. Dell really screwed up on this. When you said you got a refund, does that mean the laptop is now for free or are you retuning it permanently? If crashing isn't a common "feature", this is actually one awesome laptop. -
@chew
Very nice! -
Lunar looks much better and no finger smudges
-
-
@chewietobbacca
Thanks for the pics!! The silver looks really nice too. Have you tried OCing yours yet? And is it the 4100 or the 7300? Thanks! -
-
chewietobbacca Notebook Evangelist
It's the SU7300. No i haven't yet, going to load up some benchmarking software!
-

-
Nice chewie, that lunar shadow looks pretty good. Does it have metal flakes in it like the black? I'm really starting to hate all you guys cause mines still stuck in build purgatory lol.
-

-
Does it appear to slightly change shades in light? My car is orange with metal flakes and will look dark orange or lighter orange depends on how the light is hitting it. If you look at the black m11x's they appear to have a sparkly shade to it i guess.
-
Nice nice nice. Great one chewie and jonjonk.
-
chewietobbacca Notebook Evangelist
No metal flakes in the silver -
@chewie = So it is gunmetal and not blingy silver?
-
chewietobbacca Notebook Evangelist
Yep more gunmetal it appears though that's just from a cursory glance. No shining lights on it or whatever
-
So its totally unlike the one in the german review and more like the one on hardwareheaven? Niiiiceeee
-
The grey looks awesome. Exactly the way I figured it would be. Good choice man. I would have picked the same. Thanks for the pics.

Not having to deal with fingerprints = worth it!
-
But I'm still glad I stayed with the Black.. I've got a brushed metal/aluminum work lappy - and the silver reminds me too much of the work lappy..
Plus I think the black has that retro "batmobile" look to it that can't be beat.
Either way - congrats! -
No Fingerprints?! Mega Awesome!!!!
-
Is it made from metal? or is it just plastic?. PLEASE I HAVE TO KNOW!!!
.
-
I do not have mine yet, but absolutely everything written says plastic, but with a sturdy interior metal frame.
-
Yes it's very sturdy plastic with an internal magnesium alloy chassis.
-
Nice!!!!! To be honest I dont care if it is plastic as long as it has a superb build quality.
-
From what I've read, it's is very sturdy for plastic and the build quality is awesome. Nothing like the area-51 m15x.
-
Finally home and typing this from my M11x!!! Very cool little machine.
Updating the preinstalled WOW now and will test a 25man ICC on Sunday during our weekly run.
Question though, when I press fn + f2, it never shows "battery disabled" just "battery enabled" over and over. Any ideas? -
Both together gives you a sense of size.

@bigtymer = Thats the m15x right? Thanks for the pix
As for the battery disabling, you might have to turn it on in the BIOS first.
-
Hey can someone take a picture of the m11x next to a quarter ? I'm trying to get an idea of how thick the PC is going to be.
-
Somebody did say it was as thick as an Acer Aspire One 8.9''
EDIT: yeah thanks azn its chewies. http://img25.imageshack.us/i/p1010178mu.jpg/ -
Nuke, I think there's a picture of it side by side. Check back a couple pages

So this thing is surprisingly heavy for a 11inch. Not really that heavy in general, but it has to be the heaviest 11inch I have ever seen.
anyways, this sucker is also surprisingly fast at multitasking (overclocked su4100). Did I mention the boot up time is extremely fast? It's uber fast. And it only came with the 160GB HD :O
Also, I know this is just a personal opinion, but this sucker looks a lot cooler than the black macbook they had a few years ago.
