How come so many people got theirs and no one is posting a video? hands on gaming? benchmarks? reviews? anything?

The only thing I saw until now is audioless unboxing video... come on guys... mine is due March 8th and I'm biting my nails off...

theres a lot of benchmarks floating around here its just very unorganized.
and its barely monday these things take time. this place will be flourishing with information by friday... if people stick around and not abandon the forums after theyve gotten their toy.

hey guys, can y'all help me with a nood question.

can the m11x handle 1018hd video?

i just got my m11x it and its perfect, but i was watching some youtube videos in 720 and it played them with out a problem in fullscreen. when i tried 1080, it played the video but when played in fullscreen it starts lagging and skipping a few frames.

ire checked and rechecked to make sure nvidia was on but same result. or is it just not capable on playing 1080?

    thanks in advance.

    You mistyped 1080 as 1018.
The default installation of flash is version 10, which does not support hardware video decoding, meaning the cpu is used for the entire decoding.
The cpu of the M11x is only fast enough to decode 720p flash video.

If you install the beta version 10.1 of flash that supports hardware decoding, 1080p flash videos should run smoothly too as then your nvidia gpu will be used.

yea you need to put the load on the graphics card for 1080p to run smooth

    I'm now a proud owner of a m11x.
Does anyone recognized that the fan is off for about 1-2 minutes and then turns on with a high rate for about 30 seconds even the temps are around 40°C ? This seems a bit annoying to me. Maybe Dell should adjust it a bit better.

In regards to the power supply, the M11X is not drawing that much power, so I doubt the supply brick should run very hot. "Hot" is subjective, of course, but I have three lappys and none of them run "hot" by any measure.

Now the 360 brick - THAT runs hot!

@rush = My old Dell studio 15 brick was warm enough to be a feetwarmer in winter (Australian winter, kinda like winter just put wind where the snow is :D)

Yes, Dell is infamous for skimping on power supplies ;) I thought the M11x was rated at 65watts? Should be more than enough to not cause a heavy draw to jack up heat.

I examined the fan speed problem a bit more: as soon as the GPU Temp rises to 45°C or above, the fan turns on with a high rate until it is under or equal 40°C. Why not letting the fan run on a low rate at all time? Would be way less annoying to me... Anyone else is experience this ?

A few minor details I was wondering about the m11x that I can now answer... :::the power brick is 1.8" x 1.1" x 4.2":::the alienhead on the backside of the screen does light up, but only white, there is no option (that I have found) in the alienFX to change that color:::SD cards will extrude 1/2 way out and are not flush when installed:::the brightness of the backlighting can not be adjusted (that I know of)::: Does anyone know If we can add custom colors to the alienFX palet or are we confined to the 2 or so dozen color options?

Anyone else receive theirs with numerous scratches on the lid of the display? I know, I know: "How dare I complain when there are starving children in Africa who haven't received their M11x's yet," but I mean for a product with a premium price tag like this, you'd expect them to not do something stupid like lay it on the lid and slide it across a hard surface, which is apparently what someone did here. :(

Am I the only one disappointed in the quality of the screen?

My vertical viewing angle is horrible. That and the black levels and contrast are terrible as well. Windows looks completely washed out.

I tried calibrating a bit, and even then - it still doesn't look that great. The screen is crazy bright though (even at the lowest setting).

The viewing angles are not great, you really need to position it so that you can look pretty much straight on. With a good straight on view though the screen is very sharp with great black levels.

Even dead on - the discrete graphics calibration is much better, but still not "great" compared to my other laptop screens.

And for those wondering. No light leakage.. just bad viewing angles.

Yeah, mine does the same thing. Actually thought the fan had broken the first time it happened. Not sure why it's set up like this, but I'd rather it be keeping the temps down and spinning up the fan more often than visa versa. A future firmware update might change the fan behavior.

    @kakeashi
Yeah, I was and am still blown away by the build quality on this thing. Literally solid as a rock, and pictures certainly don't do it justice. This is my first Alienware and certainly wont be my last.

    M11X Arrived! And DEPARTED!!!

I hate Fedex! I left a note on my door to leave the package, signed it. Put my number on it if there were any questions. I watched Fedex website like a hawk at work, 11:29 AM - Customer Not Available for Signature. I literally drove to my house from work and looked for a Fedex truck to flag down LOL.

I am sure it is for my own good, but that literally means I don't get my laptop until 9:00 PM tonight after class. I wanted to at least start it downloading all my junk from steam.

    CANADA UPDATE:

Whooooo, arrived today! The build quality is awsome...screen is super reflective, and this thing is small!!!

But it's sweet, going to search around as to what I should put on here first for benchmarking and things like that. Any advice?

just got mine today, first thing i did was overclock it and run sins of solar empire on my 1080p monitor, and note it was set on 1080p. played it without overclocking and even when there was alot going on massive battles etc. it was smoooooooth! im very impressed. when overclocked to 1.6 i had no issues started up a lot faster than before. than tried out dark void. again very good results and the laptop stayed very cool man this thing has great cooling. im going to try crysis out next and ill be back with an update. if anyone has an questions feel free! note all games i will be playing, screen res. will be set to 1080p for the time being

Ouch that sucks. If you don't want to wait, perhaps you can have them send someone to replace the screen or have them send you a replacement before you send the first one back.
