I ordered mine 2/3/2010
Well consider this... these things are made to order overseas, but they get shipped to the US to do the final personalizing. After all, do you want someone who isn't a native English speaker doing a nameplate?
Much less deal with the hassle of shipping units over to the US that may have the wrong person's personalized nameplate on it and then deal with having to sort it out again here.

Well if that is the case I wouldn't worry too much about it, there was no option to get it without nameplate so his is going through the same process as everyone elses just getting m11x etched instead of his name. I would think it's highly likely you will recieve yours in a similiar timeframe depending on when you ordered it as long as you are both ordering from the U.S.
In otherwords, until people actually start getting them in thier hands, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I will give Dell a call tommorow to find out about this expedited business though as it would not seem right for others to be having their orders pushed ahead of those that ordered prior to them if that is the case then they will certainly be expediting mine as well back ahead of all those I ordered before LOL -
Flash player. Thats what.

Dont know if you guys have seen this one yet....
http://netbooked.net/blog/alienware-m11x-gets-reviewed/ -
Impressive!
-
Bah, needs more detail
-
I agree. The terms "maxed out details", "high settings", "maxed out settings" tells me little to nothing. I appreciate them trying to consolidate reviews but there's barely any detail.
-
"other than the questionable designs" lol I don't think that's a review.. it's just some guy who said stuff he supposedly tested :/ i'm taking it with a grain of salt!
-
that "review" just took info from other reviews and what not and threw it together.. lame
-
questionable design and alienware? blasphemous.

on the topic of when you *think* you should be receiving your order, just because you ordered on the same day, or a day earlier, doesn't mean your build started first. It may have taken longer to process your payment, or process your order for some reason. Who knows.
It boils down to "You'll get it when it's done on or before mm/dd/" -
Zlog, you're right, that is indeed true, forgot about that. Mine fortunately processed and went in-production the same day.. maybe just a few hours later. La di da
-
Ah - I'm not that worried - the computer will get here when it gets here...
I'm just saying - if it's truly a first in - first out process, then a nameplate shouldn't be holding it up. Assuming that *isn't* the case - then we should see a LOT more activity in the next few days of several systems being shipped out - customized nameplates included. By extrapolating from from chewietobbaco's order date, and assuming they've got the systems building / moving now through the plant with no shortages - I'd expect a lot of members updating with their systems as shipped, and mine *should* be shipping in around 3-4 days - or early next week. I'd be extremely happy with that as it'd be 2+ weeks prior to the initial reported ESD.
RE: "expedited" scenario - I've no idea what it is/what it means other than it was offered. I *can* tell you that there's nothing on any of my order status pages, phone, etc., that indicates that anything has changed with the order.
Again - very nice to see some movement and people getting their systems shortly. It's going to be nice to see the influx of activity/pics/vids over the next several days.. Looking forward to it. -
Hadn't thought of that, nor was I aware that they actually personalized the systems here versus where they're "made" or built.. so assuming that is the case - then would the system be still considered as in the "build" stage even though it's technically in transit between where it's made (assuming China) and where it's personalized (????, US)?
-
Meh - I'd agree if every user only used the Dell Credit accounts - but that's not the case. I used Amex - it was processed the same day - and (via the site) was obvious that it had cleared and was "In Production" - all within a few hours.
There's *always* going to be part shortages - that I can live with and expect to possibly have a delay with when ordering a custom system. However, in the case of the nameplate - I don't expect that to hold up a system when, say 5 orders for the same *exact* machine are received the same date and fully "processed" with regards to payment in a specific order, that the systems with no customization would go ahead of the line of the ones with customization. It's a stamping process - that, in today's world, should easily be automated. I do expect to be notified that this process would possibly delay my order, however, and given the opportunity to "pass" on the personalization.
We'll see - let's just sit back and watch the mayhem unfold - considering the amount of interest in this system..
-
^ the thing with that is, I've seen users saying they were waiting for their order to go into in-production and were just waiting and showing up work in progress etc for quite some time, days even, which I found odd since like you, mine was cleared for in production asap and the money was taken out of my checking account before being let go again.
-
^ Actually - mine showed as "In Production", "Pre-Production", and "Work In Progress" - depending on which page of the order status site you were on.
It showed that way for about 2-3 days - even though the payment was verified/made, etc.
Phone system (usual) stated it was "Currently In progress".
A few days later - all pages updated to "In Production" - and the "other" phone number provided the "build" stage info. I guess I'll try the original # again to see what it says..
-
not for what you get no, the sony z would be comparable with the 330m and an i5 games fair almost the same, m11x having a small edge with the 335m but expect to pay 1/3 more
-
If money isn't an issue, get a Sony Z. The CPU will be more "future-proof" (if there is such a thing) and it's quite nice. If money is a deciding factor, though, go with the M11x. You won't find a better computer in the same price range for its size. The base Sony Z is a good USD $1,000 more than a base M11x and, in terms of hardware, the only upgrade is the processor.
-
Yup, I would have never considered buying an m15x or m17x because I could just get the clevo or sager without paying the Alienware mark up. But this m11x is the only one in its category with no other competition and at a great price so just had to pick it up since it has everything I want.
-
For anyone interested in the M11X Benchmark thread, I have put together a rough copy of what post #2 would look like. I'd appreciate any feedback, or input if you want to see anything particular. PM me and I'll send you what I've come up with so far. I'm trying to make it as aesthetically pleasing and user friendly/easy to read as possible. Any input would be much appreciated. I have sent it to a few members, but the more input the better.
Thanks guys
-
I personally would like to see GTA 4 tested. I've heard others say the same. I would like to know what settings would play the best for GTA 4, and also which updates for the game would make it run better. Otherwise thats it, most of the reviewers have it covered.
-
Hey guys, I was just about to order one of the anti-glare screen things and it occured to me that those are 11.6".... but we have a sheet of plastic/glass that goes edge to edge... So before you guys order you might either order something that is the dimensions of the laptop chassis so you can cover the whole plastic/glass piece or wait till you receive the system and measure it.
Alienware site says the dimensions are:
Width: 285.7mm (11.25 inches)
Depth: 233.3mm (9.19 inches)
http://www.buyviewguard.com/en-us/1...Width-10.08"-x-Height-5.67"-16:9-Aspect-Ratio) -
Thanks, for the input, as of now I have it on the list. I'm also contemplating an integrated GPU section, but haven't completely decided on it yet
-
I ordered on 2/9 ESD of 3/12 dont know why EPP gets shipped later... but im going to try and see if i can get my nameplate changed as well. if not im going to ask for Expedite if they dont offer it to me.
-
Damn i wish this thing would be released already!
-
Wow the prices went up I am still waiting for mine. Ordered it 2 weeks ago for $832.

hey guys...when doing the squaretrade warranty, do you quote them the price of the m11x before or after coupons?
-
You use the final price minus tax and shipping.
-
so let's say i got an m11x that was supposed to be $1000. but after coupons i only paid $750. i should report $750 to squaretrade?
btw...thanks for helping me out with the clarification
-
Yes you would list $750. Also if your price is actually 749.99 its in your best interest to use 749.99 instead of 750 as the price of the warranty jumps at that point as Squaretrade determines the cost of warranty by the price bracket your notebook falls in. So warranties from $700-749.99 cost the same and the $750-799.99 would be the next tier at a higher cost. That one penny makes a big difference to the cost. I'm guessing at the bracket ranges btw
-
The sense of anticipation is killing me, have exams all next week though, if i get it next week it will remain in a box until friday evening. I can almost smell it.
-
Still have about three weeks here till delivery T_T.
-
I just read about the infamous hinge issue on the M15x series. Has that been resolved? Will it be an issue for the M11x?
-
what's the hinge issue? I would assume it won't be an issue but who knows. Doubt they're using same hinges
-
Actually, don't you report your actual cost before discounts and tax? It's the replacement value you want to consider. So if you got lucky and got $300 off and the machine cost you $700, well if something goes wrong and they can't fix it, they'll issue a replacement at the replacement value, you'd be out that $300 if you can only get it for $1000 at the time.
-
@htwingnut
Sure, it would be great to report a higher cost, except they do actually require your receipt for repairs/replacement, so it's not to your advantage to quote a higher cost. -
Well, also placed order for this lappy.
I'm interested, if it will be possible, to clock processor up to 2.00 ghz
-
i think you need to live in the arctic for it to be cool enough D: lol and it will prolly really lower your life expectancy!
-
A lot of these 3rd party warranties will allow you to pay for a higher insurance coverage if you bought the item on discount. They get more money up front, and less problems later on IF they have to cover it. Just call a rep.
-
@vorob
Within time, I'm sure there will be software that will increase OC.
BUT, OCing above the standard bios 1.73, will void your warranty; as reported by Darkhan. I, personally, will be happy with 1.73. -
I dont see why a program like SetFSB wouldnt be able to attempt a 2.0 GHz OC... but it seems the bios will only give you standard or 1.7 GHz OC
-
that issue has never been resolved for the original m15x. it still remains. i have not see this reoccur on the new generation M15x so i believe they fixed it for the new generation but not for the old generation. to fix the hinge for the old generation, we used a DIY fix.
-
All depends on the PLL the M11X uses. As soon as I get mine I will be taking it apart to find out, but the maker of SetFSB, Abo, no longer supports the program, so if it's not in that program by now, then it likely won't work
-
@DR650SE
I'm contemplating getting the squaretrade warranty so I'm going to play it safe
Oh, btw, this is ions ago but I did consider your suggestion on the logitech performance mx mouse. I was very back and forth on that and the Orochi but I think I'm going to settle with the Orochi. The blue light is so damn sexy. -
There is a tool called ASRock OCtuner that people use nowadays, it supports su7300 but not sure if it will support the mobo/chipset without an update. Depends if there is a similiar chipset already in other mobos with su7300 that we could select.
-
What is this hinge problem? Is it not stable?
Would be good if we knew how to identify it is the same problem if it's there on the M11x. -
looking forward to playing sniper elite on this thing.
also will be using this as my main computer as i travel alot with work. i use a asus n10 and works pretty well and im pretty much used to the small screen and have come to prefer it over the big and daft laptops.
