Same here. I love smaller laptops; this 13.3" is even a little too big!

yea, same here. My first laptop was an Asus 12.1" and then an Asus 1000he 10.1". In fact, based on measurements of the alienware, my old Asus 12.1" is practically the exact same size as the m11x. So I have a good feel of what the size will be.
But danggg, after being used to the netbook and all these new thin and lights... it feels pretty thick.

I'll gladly accept the trade off of some bulk for better and quieter cooling. Nothing more annoying than a loud tiny thin fan spinning at high rpms to cope for lack of air volume.

the hinge around the original m15x was made of pretty cheap and weak materials. there are 4 nuts that secure the hinge to the back panel of the lcd. The 4 nuts are surrounded by the weak and cheap plastic so eventually due to wear the plastic cracks and the hinge is no longer connected to the back panel. the area where the hinge will crack open and then closing the laptop will be like impossible

    @Tr8gger

Nope, unfortunately the Gobi card is the hardware that allows you to connect to the cellular network. It also comes with the antenna. Without ordering it, you get neither so if you wish to use it in the future you will need to crack open the lcd panel to install the antenna.

Anyone who has experience with alienware, it should definitely be bottom heavy right? As in, I should be able to open the lid with one hand without holding down the bottom? Just a big pet peeve!

Got a HP DV2 when it first came out, and returned 1 week later , it's constant noise coming from the fans drove me nuts.

Its 4 pounds. You will need to hold the bottom to open the screen, bottom heavy or not.

It all depends if the lid has some sort of locking mechanism or magnetic clasp.

But then again I've never had a AW laptop before but that's going to change real soon.

The M11X does not lock, and our hinge is tight , you could open it with one hand but slowly.

My 3 year old Asus F9J can easily open with one hand no problem. Aww man, guess I'll have to 2 hand the m11x :(

Thanks for the quick reply Darkhan!

I actually prefer the non-locking/stiff type. I really do like the Macbook hinges though, but to really emulate the feel you'd have to have an all-metal chassis so even if you had a loose hinge with a magnetic lock it would feel a little flimsy if the chassis allowed any flex.

I guess I'm one of the few that watches the videos too much, but I've seen a few videos of them opening up the lid without holding down the bottom. Go browse the videos and I'm sure you'll come across one or two where they close it and open it no problems just grabbing the lid.

OK The 2 Models we have, are solid and yes you can open the lid with one hand but slowly, I can not answer on the test models in videos.

If you can open with one hand congrats, if you have to use 2 hands oh well.

That's at 1366x768 too, I wonder if the 6100 score Alienware advertises is at 1366x768 or plugged in a monitor at default 1280x1024? That would make a difference too. Sheesh, I wish someone would get their M11x already and at least do some preliminary testing.

no need to quote the same picture lol but no idea.. didn't bother to translate.

    I'm guessing the 5730 + i7-620m could be 15" Envy?

*edit* google translated it, page 3 has gaming benchmarks but it's using that awesome i7 processor so can only use it to compare vs a 240m and a 5730 haha

    page 3 benchmarks of 335m + i7 vs 240m

I'm becoming very bummed at how long these m11x are taking to get into peoples' hands. Anyone got one yet?

You can use google translate to read stuff on the page, but it doesn't specify what kind of computer these tests are being run on. :\

Edit: How fun, I was reading my facebook and posting about how excited I was about my m11x when some d-bag starts going on about alienwares being over priced and rebadged computers from other vendor . I asked him what a m11x was before it was rebadged and he said it was a clevo x8100. So I checked out this clevo and I just had to laugh at him. He happens to be a parts engineer at a performance car part manufacturer. I also happen to think their parts suck, are over priced, and over rated ha ha.

3dmark 06 defaults to 1280x768 on my 1201n which is 1366x768 so most likely that is what res Alienware ran it at. Makes me wonder about Z again because that can run the default 1280x1024 so I wonder what Z runs 3dmark 06 with i7 and 330m at 1366x768 probably close to 7000. I need to stop reading these threads they are burning holes in my pockets...was just about set on keeping 11x LOL

Edit: Now that I look at it again that is only with the ulv [email protected] the i7 in Z is 3.33ghz so probably would score higher...

which are you talking about in your *edit*? If you're talking about the 7635 benchmark 335m with i7-720qm @1.6GHz, that's for 4 cores and 2.8Ghz turbo mode. The i7-620M you're talking about is a dual core that turbos up to 3.33Ghz and that scores a tad lower than the i7-720QM.. But either way a Z with OC'd 330m card should score in upper 7000 range if an i5-520M + 330m OC'd can get ~7700 in a Sony CW27.

I see, I was just going by the results, hard to follow the translation 720qm is quad core that will add to the score. I was looking for comparison best I can find is 240m (same amount of shaders/processors) with i7 720qm here at notebookcheck review: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-240M.17654.0.html
it scores 7365@1280x720. Closest to 1280x768 that is pretty significant difference. Now trying to find info as to how i7 [email protected] compares to i7 [email protected] but coming up empty so far. Should not be much difference in games as most game just start taking advantage of dual core not much gain with quad core last time I checked wish I could find some more info on it though.

Commodore versions of Gorf suck anyway, since they are missing stages from the arcade version ;)

I had the cart on the C64 and have the rom on my G1 for both the C64 and MAME ;)

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I am looking for a case as close to the SOLO Netbook Mini Instant Messenger Case TCA511-4 as possible to hold the m11X.

Need the case to be for a netbook and therefore smaller than one for a 15" laptop.

I have the solo case and it will not fit.

There's only one small comparison on page three of the links I posted above on that chinese site, one has the i7-620M and if you look at the CPU benchmarks it's a little lower.

Over at notebook check if you look at #11 and 12, they have the 620M just above the 720QM and they're very competitive with one beating the other on different benchmarks. Personally I would also probably want the 620M just because of how high it can turbo up and it also has 4 threads which is almost like a quad core right? I don't do much with my CPU so I think the dual core w/ 4 threads is still very suitable for me and I think even better for gaming. Somewhere I read more threads is not always better for gaming.. Anyway, a bit off topic now.

Yea, thanks for the info man, I appreciate it. Sorry to kind of go off topic. I posted over in the m11x vs. Sony Z thread instead to stay more on topic I am excited about the extra performance of the Z it is a no brainer for me now which to go with. But it is hurting a bit because my TV just blew up and I have to spend a bunch of money on a new one of those too now LOL

is the alienware m15x experiencing throttling/heat issues like the xps 1645/1647?

    i say this because i could get a m15x i7 4GRAM for $1734 1G Nvidia GTX 260M via dell rep

with same rep i can get the i5 studio xps 1647 for $1400

a $334 difference between the two. Studio xps is 1080p, m15x is only 900p

    any comments guys? suggestions?

barely. should get playable frame rates at medium settings but keep it on low to have it running smooth. those hi res textures and highy poly counts really tax the gpu
