Wish I could...don't have a DisplayPort to HDMI or DisplayPort to DVI adapter laying around. I wonder, though, if anyone else is having the same difficulty?
-
So how much battery life are you lucky owners getting? Is it hitting 6-7 with just wifi and low brightness?
-
speaking of battery...I am still confused on how and when to turn off the battery and turn it on. Help please!
-
Has anyone tested the sound quality? How are the speakers? And has anyone tested headphones with them?
-
Thanx!
Yes, I like my machines to feel solid and more business like.
Most other typical netbooks have a more plasticy and too rounded look (that's what I don't like on my dell mini 10 netbook, apart from being so low which is partly why I ordered the M11x). Even the dell XPS or inspiron notebooks do not have the kind of quality look the Precision and Alienware notebooks have.
Though the M11x is in no way a business machine it still has some of it's qualites when it comes to how it is built.
My M11x is underway now and I guess it can be here tomorrow (judging on how far it is from me now and how long previous UPS deliveries took), but oddly UPS has not assigned a delivery date yet. -
Are you sure this cover is not the protective layer that comes with the M11x tightly attached? Some other people have already been hoodwinked into the protective layer for shipping to be a real part of the machine.
-
to answer the black version and finger print: it's actuelly better than I was thought. and I just clean it with the protection sheet that comes with it (which was placed between the screen and the keyboard), works pretty fine.
-
here comes some complaining: 1) Fn F2 toggle never worked, waiting for an correction update; 2)some keys are too small, esp the directiion arrow keys, that makes the racing games uncomfortable; 3) the VGA connection is loosy and has no fixation which makes it not as practical; 4)outdoor: better using maximun ilumination to make the screen readable which shortens battery stamina (still quite goog though) 5) no multitouch funcion or touchscreen;
-
c'mon you can't expect touchscreen with all these other features.. touchscreens are usually wimpy.

When my lappy is on power saver in class on battery power, its absolutely silent.
However at home on AC power + balanced power mode, the fan is constantly on, while not super loud, but its very much noticeable in a quiet room at night. PS: GT 335m is turned off, I'm on integrated graphics.
Anyone experiencing this? -
What's your battery life like when in power saver mode?

lowest brightness + power saver + wireless on, meter says 8 hours, I used 15% during my 90 mins class... -
That probably works out around 6-7 hours. Sounds pretty good to me.
Really damn tempted by this laptop. It looks so good. -
do it do it do it
-
I'd wait for more stackable coupons. heh
That's the main reason I got it, the absurdly good deal. -
I really doubt they will be selling again (with tax) to a total of $800-850....I think they learned their lesson. I got mine for $1100 after tax. I wish I could get a cheaper price...oh well.
I am doubtful they will decrease the price on this machine given its demand. -
I'm in the UK, so most deals aren't that great for me. That being said, I can get one with the SU7300, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD for ~£760.
Honestly, it's hard to resist. My M1530's battery has pretty much gone, it only gives me about 30 minutes charge. The thing gets hot, enough for my palms to sweat when I rest them on it, even with the front raised an inch up. It's still a great laptop though. -
+1 I've got the M1330 and its superb. Even though it had the GPU issues I've still got my original machine.
-
yeah, luckily I have a friend that works at DELL so he hooked it up with a 17% off discount! I got the options and paid $1030.00 with tax and 3 day shipping included. WEEEEEEEEEEEE, now I'm just waiting for the damn thing like the rest of us
after seeing some of those pics of the all black, I'm feeling like I made a mistake switching to silver. someone make me feel better
-
That's a great deal. I bought the same package with a 4100 and it cost me £859
-
@alive = look at chewies pix. That'll comfort you one bit especially if you abhor having a fingerprint map that would make the NSA proud on your lappie lid.
-
Anybody done any transcoding yet. If so what software have people installed. I've been using PRISM from NCH and it's not bad but I'd be interested in any help here. I'm interested in converting to mp4 for my iphone. Sorry if people think this is outside the thred but it ws one of the things that appealed to me when I bought this.
-
So, you'd recommend it?
I'm trying to wait for another review or two to come out. So far the only one I've really seen is chewie's, it's a good review, but I really want a second opinion on a production unit. -

Baddaboom = 1.5 GB transcoded in 30 mins -
hmmm, soo many pages to search through lol
-
I can recommend it. It's a great little box albeit too gaudy for my tastes. I started looking for a laptop around September last year. Firstly I wanted a netbook size that could play some of the older games like Half Life, Serious Sam etc whilst I was at work. There ws nothing available then apart from the HP 311 the first of the IONs. Then the Asus 1201N was touted but would not be available until this year. Then Asus brought out the first of the discrete graphic laptops with the UL30 range. The biggest problem though is you couldn't actually get one. So when this appeared at the beginning of the year it was like "wohhhh". I then thought we're probably looking at 6 months before release especially in the UK so amazed when it came out in Feb. So my choice was made for me. It far surpasses my original criteria and could even replace my desktop if push came to shove. You're not going to get anything similar for the money, the closest comparison I've seen is the new Sony VAIO but its megabucks.
-
Did actually try this yesterday based on your big review. Is it necessary to have the box set to high performance and discrete graphics to get the best transcoding time. Also out of interest and may seem a litle silly but do you get any better performance by using mains power rather than battery.
-
damn how did you get it so cheap is that including shipping
-
That setup should be £899 because I originally specced it on the Dell site
-
If you're living at a BFPO Address outside of the UK Dell allow you to order without paying VAT - Shipping isn't free, though, but not too much.
It's pretty awesome. (When they have what you want, at least.) -
@alive = check his sig for the link to his review, there are pix there. Or just go over to the arrival thread page 12.
-
i c another member who lives in channel islands didnt pay VAT i thought you may have some super secret discount link with alienware lol
-
You've obviously never had someone strip over a vga projector cord whilst it was secured in a laptop, and have the vga port ripped of the motherboard...
-
If the internal connections are anything like the M17x, the reason the Intel graphics can't output to HDMI or DisplayPort, is because there is no physical link between the card and the port. Instead, a switch which joins the 335M and the Intel GMA to the internal display, whilst the 335M has a direct connection to the external ports.
This is just a theory, so don't bag me out if I'm wrong, but it's probably just like the M17x. -
I have already seen previous reports that it does not work with integrated (not completely sure which work and which not, though). I only know for sure VGA works with the integrated one.
However based on this: http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-integrated-graphics/
the Intel GMA 4500 should support both displayport and hdmi. Maybe it is a limitation of the M11x hardware due to switchable graphics.
However, since you usually only attach a large monitor when power plugs are near, I don't see much of an issue. -
So could I use my M11x' screen as an external monitor by plugging my xbox in HDMI?
-
wrong direction.
-
I considered that, but at least the VGA output works between both cards.
I mean, it doesn't /really/ matter, since everyone has siad, most of the time when I'm using a monitor, I'll be plugged in, it's just kind of a nuisance. My plan was to only switch nVidia on for games, to keep overall system temperatures low. Now, though, looks like I'll have to have nVidia on any time I'm docked at my desk. -
ahhh I saw, thanks so much
I don't feel so bad about not sticking to black now that I've seen that baby in silver. -
This could be correct. Depends on how they set it up. Since the GPU is not integrated, there is probably a physical reason. That being said, the 335m's video ability specs smoke the HD4500 and should also provide more efficient hi-res output and control.
We are better off if we need to pick one
-
Yes - I have the 11z with the 4500MHD - and it's only output *is* HDMI - so the chipset does support output via HDMI - it seems that they simply put the HDMI and DisplayPort to the best card in the m11x.
-
Touchscreen's on higher than 7" displays are slightly grainy, unless the VERY expensive ones. My HP2010 display is a good example of why I do not like touchscreens on anything put phones and media players.
-
@rush = just got a 23 inch touchscreen monitor in the store today. Will see if its grainy.. Does cost around 2 grand RM which goes for about... 600-700 ish USD.
-
So...no one is having this problem? Random small clicking sounds coming from the big fan on the bottom.
ps. I want to undervolt soo bad... will start sometimes this afternoon -
Seems like you got drowned out jonjonk. Overall is the system performing fine?
-
Yea, I'm actually using it right now. I had this sucker in the box all weekend because a) I wanted to confirm with dpa, and b) I had a med school interview yesterday. Right now, it's out of the box and actively used
Performance wise, it's pretty responsive. Sharp at everything. Can't say too much about gaming because I haven't played anything yet. Furthermore, the battery life. at around 6hrs, is just as expected.
-
Does anyone know if Unreal Tournament is cpu or gpu oriented? Mine is being delivered today and was curious on how it would play
-
unreal will play maxed out. It's not demanding at all.
-
@jonjonk = A future doc too ay?
So the clicking sound is your only gripe with it? Sweeet....
