    hi there, first post.

Recieved my m11x today and having issues playing 1080p films, they play fine but are using 100%cpu. I bought and installed coreavc to offload the processing to the gpu but ive had no luck so far. Has anyone managed to get this working.

    Thanks Tony

I ordered mine with the Gobi card set for ATT. Works just like any other wireless 3g card. Latency's on ATT are averaging around 400ms, DL speeds are in the 2mbps range here in Northern CA.

Compared to Sprint EVDO Rev A. in my Sony Z750 it gives much better speeds, but much worse Ping times. Latency on Sprint here is about 140-180ms, DL speeds are around 1.2mbps. Both are about the same for pulling in a signal.

My Iphone sim DID NOT WORK in the M11x, So I went into the nearest ATT store, got a free sim, bought the data plan (No contract) and was off to the races.

As an aside, the Gobi card that is installed can be used on EITHER ATT or Verizon as it has multiple radios, only the software and the signup process is different.

Overall online gaming is playable, but it can be a bit laggy. Thats just the nature of 3g though.

Could I just pop in the SIM card from my AT&T phone (with 3G data) and have it work?

Alright so, got the M11x and slapped in my SSD + RAM sticks, overclocked it off the bat and it installed windows and she dealt with my speedy set up of apps and drivers nicely, no crash. I feel lucky already because I dont have a unit that crashes when OC'd (knock on wood).

Sexy little beast - Lunar Shadow was definitely the way to go. I love the color it's just perfect for the machine . I had a black M17x and didn't like the black at all after a while so this is the perfect change.

Only fault I can find is a small gap at the top between the edge of the glossy plastic and the beginning of the black plastic - its small but still there nonetheless. Otherwise its a tight package.

I'm loading up my SSD and looking forward to playing with it on my trip in two days :)

Interesting. With tethering via PDAnet on my iPhone, I get 250-300ms latency with roughly the same download speed. Not too bad, though. If you just use it for MMOs, you won't notice the lag too badly.

    Initial Impressions:

Beautiful Design - Small Form - Light in weight yet has a nice heft/density
VERY solid build quality - Screen, Corners, Keys, trackpad, etc...
Brilliant Screen (No DEAD pix) - But is reflective.
    Fast Processor (OC'd)
    Keyboard - Excellent (no imperfections)

I will be giving more in depth details later. ;)

Great, glad to see more arrivals in good shape. If anything the first few orders out the door were probably "test subjects" of sorts that the builders essentially were practicing on, which is a shame. Quality should improve a little bit after initial release models.

Oh man, this screen gets annoying in class real fast. I can see reflections of nearly everyone behind me.

    It's so freaking reflective.

Don't know if any of you have been on ebay but they already have M11x on there. I have to wait a month to get mine according to Dell. Yuck So to see this makes me wanna cry. LOL
EACH M11X IS BUILT TO ORDER AND WILL TAKE ~15 DAYS TO SHIP. WE SHIP USING THE FASTEST SHIPPING METHODS (USPS PRIORITY/EXPRESS, FEDEX EXPRESS INTERNATIONAL PRIORITY) SO THAT WAIT TIME IS MINIMIZED!

I haven't tested it yet, but I've read that any other smartphone Sim with data plan except the Iphone's will work. Ill try and test it this weekend.

@Ceol - It really depends on which tower your using and how busy it is. Depending on where I am the latency goes up and down by as much as 150-200ms. Just the nature of 3g. Here in the east bay, Sprint/Verizon always have better pings, but slower speeds than ATT.

They sold 11 of them already, wonder how much one that is actually in the hands of someone would fetch since I am sure someone would be willing to pay a premium to get it faster. Makes me consider selling mine since people are saying the fan is loud and screen is super reflective both of which I am not a fan of.

    @flipp

The screen is reflective, I have ordered one of the mat screen protectors, to see how that works, but as long as you don't have an open window behind you its really not a deal breaker.

I honestly don't know if I'm just lucky, or the others are hyper sensitive and tuned in to the fan, but my M11x is, unless I'm playing Aion or something, virtually silent. When the fan comes on in full blown gaming mode with the CPU OC'd and the GPU Oc'd it does run at high, but even then its about half as loud as my Asus G1, or my Sony Z-750, and the exhaust air is not even half as hot.

When I am surfing the web, working in office, or doing mundane tasks and have the Intel GPU on, the fan very rarely runs and when it does its on very low.

I am using mine at work right now and my office is virtually silent, and the fan comes on occasionally, whispers a bit and shuts down.

I also have no gaps around my screen that some others are talking about, no dust in the screen, and not a single dead pixel. Out of all the laptops ive ever owned, this one is as near flawless as they get. :)

    I ordered my M11x but my EDD isn't until 3/23. :(

In the meantime I'm desperately searching for a full-sized bluetooth mouse. The only one I've found so far is the RadTech BT600

It gets decent reviews but I've never heard of RadTech. Anyone ever used this thing?

The wifi range on this thing isn't the greatest when trying to connect to long range networks.

Sitting in class right now in the highest floor where my MBP could not connect but my external card could - I'm getting 1-2 bars and the internet is extremely slow - it's connecting at 1 mbps.

Good thing I still have http://rokland.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=336 from my mbp.

    @Jonjonk

I just ordered the mat finish screen protectors yesterday. I found one at CDW and ordered the other one people have discussed here in the forums. I'm hoping to get them both by Friday, and I will install em and let you know if they are worth anything.

00005c is definitely a hardware problem and is usually associated with the Motherboard.

    In Microsoft speak -

This is a Windows 7 Executive character-mode STOP message. Phase 0 initialization of the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) failed. This can only happen during the relatively short period of time that the Windows 7 Executive is being initialized, during phase 4 of Windows 7 startup. This is likely a hardware problem.

Sounds like you just got a bad piece of equipment Home, sorry you are giving up and moving on, I truly love my M11x, and when it works like its supposed to is a killer laptop!

no problems here so far... m11x is operating smooth. fan goes on and off nicely and its not running too hot. Gaming is OK on it - I have to get used to turning down settings and turning AA off (Spoiled)

I'm not a huge fan of the screen so far. Its not really evenly lit, this seems CCFL backlit to me... Kind of dissapointed with the screen so far but its not bad. Overall the package is really great.

I love this thing... I love the keyboard, I love the size, I love the look. Mine was pretty much flawless... I've had it for a few hours, enough to overclock the cpu and run a few rounds of L4D2 and Runes of Magic on it... Coming from an ATI 3470 this nVidia card rocks... I got multitouch working with the scrybe thingy as well... No BSOD's... going to run 3d mark to see if the stress does anything...

Used some office apps, and downloaded a bunch of stuff and I really can't tell any cpu performance drop from my P8400, but I do see my cpu usage is a bit higher...

@home = Personal experience, when I got that BSOD, it was due to a bad piece of RAM. The system had 3 sticks and I tried each, and two worked fine while the last went... well what you basically have there.

    So -

Ordered new screen - tech to come out later this week/next to install to replace the "speck" - again - overkill - but whaddya gonna do?

Received OCZ Agility SSD today - installed it and tried to "recover" using the Dell DataSafe option from the original drive.. no dice. So I just went ahead and re-installed everything.

Overall - I've got most everything re-installed with the exception of one unknown device - which I've a feeling is due to the fact I don't have a viable install for the Alien Command Center application (thought about using the A05 - but skeptical because of all the issues with the other installs for the M17X).

That being said - OCZ / SSD is best upgrade EVAR - IMHO - wow what a difference. The laptop was pretty snappy before - now, the M11x feels quicker in some aspects than my Core i7 rig (XPS 435t).

If you're on the proverbial fence - do it - buy the thing - it's the single most drastic upgrade to a system I've experienced in quite a long time.

Prays for SSDs to fall from the sky in bulk. Praying for mostly Intels and OCZs :D :D :D :D People in Malaysia still hunt for huge platters instead of SSDs (Well most of them)... Sigh...
