@howard911s - I think he may be referring to the Battery Icon on the taskbar maybe? Setting one of those options to passive for the fan
And no, it shouldn't fry your mobo... it's only to disable the fan running for extended periods of time
-
-
I'm actually a "she".
-
@howard911s,
What I did was to close cover lid after extensive abuse of GPU, the fan would turn it off, now open the lid, you can surf...etc...without the fan on...try this... -
So sorry... hehe I should have guessed by your avatar

I shall try that once I get home, thank you... also info only.. I just called dell to set up return citing bad fan noise (just in case this fan methods dont work). They were very very nice about it, sent me return label, and no restocking fee. -
Man hopefully it works out howard... I mean this thing sounds like a killer mini-notebook other than that small glitch

this is a great one . i ordered it yesterday -
Hi everyone I am new to the forum. I just purchased my first alienware, well 2 of them one for him and one for me (her) lol. I am new to all of this. It looks to me a lot of you have a good knowledge of accessories and games that would be good to purchase. What I would like to know is what gaming mouse do you recommend and what are some good starter games for a newbie gamer like myself. Thanks in advance.

I did try the close lid trick,
I did the recycle graphic to GT 335 then intergrated then restart,
I tried putting it on normal power, then power saver and restart
I have put m11x both on integrated video + power saver mode then restart and do nothing more than surf the net like now....
all of the above attempts were done after just surfing and listening to music and also attempted to do it after extensive urban combat in MW2. The only difference it made was how soon the fan comes up or how late the fan comes up rather...During game fan comes up instantly, surfing on power saver/integrated video, the fan comes on within 5 minus on each instances and refuse to lower which is louder than my recently built gaming desktop pc.
As for cooling, M11x stays cool no matter what thanks to the fan,
As for changing the fan to passive, if it works, I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable doing that less the system/mobo fries.....
Dell did offer to send me a new replacement system, but I think this one is going back even if the passive fan works.. heat = killer..

Anyone please??
-
no one has posted anything regarding WWAN yet. also there are no verizon sim cards for this. its a different internal card thats works on CDMA vs. GSM.
that second case looks as if its meant to have the m11x inside it while you use it(vent area on the bottom) -
By the way for those familiar with EVGA Precision, you should be able to control fan speed with that little proggy atleast I remember on my m1330 iirc.
-
Yeah EVGA Precision may work since it has an option to manually adjust the fan speed etc... have you tried that howard? Maybe third party software will help
-
@trent and spoiledfree
It's spelled orochi, btw. And those are excelent mouse ideas. If you are wanting a bigger mouse, spoiledfree, you should check out logitech performance mx. I, personally, have the orochi and it's amazing. It's not too small but small enough for portability. It's quite expensive though, $70.
For games, you should go on store.steampowered.com and look around, see what interests you. Check out Team Fortress 2, it's a fun, shooting game online. -
I was surprised to see the Verizon option in the WWAN section since it is CDMA only. That clears my doubt. Thanks.
-
@The_A33a33in, my bad for the name, just a typo...
-
what the heck lol there is dust already inside the screen :O How did it even get in???
-
Thanks for the responses. I will be checking those out.
-
@howard911s :
After closing the lid and reopening it after extensive GPU usage while fan is spinning, the fan will be off for basic surfing all the time. For youtube or hulu in IGP mode, the fan will turn on, but if stopping doing the video playing in both youtube and hulu, the fan would be off in a minute, and when going back to basic surfing, the fan will be stay off.. the whole system is kept very cool even fan is off...
At least this is the case for my m11x... -
Is anyone regretting their m11x purchase besides home and maybe howard? The more I read, the more I think this machine could've stayed in development a little longer. Or are the quirks things that hyper sensitive people like howard with spider man hearing pick up?
-
It says here that "The casing is made of solid aluminum components that give the compact gamers a worth seeing stability." Isnt this a typo? I thought the case was made of plastic
-
STILL installing WoW fml... The screen isn't really that bad when you're using it tbh,no problems so far with the whole mirror-like finish rofl. -
Considering that it's the first generation version of the product, I'm not surprised that there's a few quirks. Home's problem seems to be rather unique. The fan speed problem is annoying, but I have to assume that Dell's going to fix it in a BIOS update.
To be honest, I'm surprised there aren't more recurring problems popping up. -
Boy am I glad I held off ordering this. One thing I've learned the hard way is not to be an early adopter of any electronic gadget or technology. Wait a month or two for the wrinkles to be ironed out. Maybe even longer in the case of the M17x with it's sound latency issues.
-
Found a second dead pixel on my screen. Calling Alienware, as their written policy says they'll replace a screen for two.
-
Just got it.
right off the bat first impressions, not even done booting it up are:
-build quality is AMAZING
-keyboard is EXCELLENT
-screen is NOT SMALL AT ALL AND GOOD FOR GAMING
-packaging is VERY NICE
-feels very SOLID
-suprisingly HEAVY -
Has Bad Company 2 been benchmarked on the m11x?
-
@gee-gee - don't think so yet... that's what I'm waiting for...
-
@abused
Glad to read it! Mine should be here today as well. I can't wait.
-
arent they doing a free tryout? they just sent my wife an email saying something along those lines.
as for the dust, its not just this machine. i went through FOUR M15x's before i gave up. the first was dust and the next 3 in a row had dead pixels. -
Someone that has the m11x, help ingrater in his plugin thread to see if he can get the m11x lights to flash to the music !!!
That would be so awesome! -
^shadow it's a closed beta test right now, invites only.
and btw, I think it's awesome your wife is getting BFBC2 emails... lol, and even mentioning them! -
@shadow
How the heck does dust get in the screen and is there anyway to get it out? Maybe get a duster can and spray the screen while holding the can upside down? -
I don't think any have shipped yet and is what I think the reason is for being in build purgatory for 21 days now.
-
Currently I'm at work surfing the web ALL DAY on this badboy (I know, I suck at my job lol). I got to my job at 8.45am and took maybe an hr lunch break without using the laptop. Right now it's 3.50pm, and my battery is only at 38% with 3hr and 27min left!!! I have my brightness at 2 bars, processor OCed, and on power saving mode. I did web surfing, occasional youtube watching (maybe 3 or 4 videos), and ms word. I'm also currently typing all of this out on this lapy. This badboy is more than meets the eye
-
@kissfan - Maybe they're building ours "extra special" without defects... that's why it's taken so long... LOL
-
wow jon, are you saying you might hit 9 hours?
-
@impruv
I don't know, but I don't really care either LOL As long as I can use this badboy during work without it giving up on me, it's all good
edit: actually, since the battery life indicator fluctuates, I don't think 9hrs is possible. But 7-8hrs is! -
That makes sense. Probably thats the reason nobody is talking about it.
-
@jonjonk: It's reaching Asus status in terms of battery! But your screen issue worries me =S Dust and all
-
Has there been any gaming benchmarks with the su4100? Apparently the difference is marginal, if existent at all.
-
^ I've only seen a couple 3Dmark06 scores (~6200) but in terms of gaming I would guess we may see 2-5FPS difference in some games due to the 1MB L2 cache difference. Some games are probably none at all
-
Just to follow up on this, the rep agreed to replace the screen and have a technician come to my home to replace it. I'm rather happy about their support.
-
Keep an eye on those technicians, some of them don't know what they are doing. Last time when one of them came to replace the screen on my Studio XPS 13, he stripped 2 screws!!!!
-
This is my first post I have been following the whole thread for awhile, I do not have any screen capturing programs but I got 6374 on 3dmark06 Su7300 Factory overclocked 4gb ram, and I used nvidia advanced control panel to overclock to 525, 850, and 1200. My max temp was only 61c
-
Finally arrived! This baby is sleek!
-
Black or silver? XD
-
well i saw the email and it said "try out BFBC2" and neither of us care to.
the plastice E2E cover is PART of the lcd, they cannot be separated. ask me how i know
try holding a piece of microfiber over the trash area and giving it a few sharp taps to see if it will fall down. you dont want anyone swapping out your LCD unless they have done it before. you have to disassemble the entire machine if its anything like the M15x. make them replace3 it if it bothers you that bad. that new they HAVE to. -
@jonjon
Silver! Looks absolutely amazing!
